I nearly giggled. Who was I jesting? I didn't need to bother about leading him on. I was the one getting hooked here.

I was the one in threat of escalating this courtship. I wished to halt loitering on my "clean break" with him.

I rapidly broke apart and drooped my sights. "Thank you."

He offered to drive to West Seattle, loosening me up to keep calling colleges. I had almost finished by the time we reached the nook of Alaska and California. He hampered scantily, and we both peeked around, scouring for a green house.

You can't miss it. It was a dumb piece of guidance. What constituted green anyway? I saw a sage house, a forest green house, and a hue that could have been green or blue. Some cottages had green trim, green doors, or—

"Whoa," mumbled Gabriel.

A small, run-down house smudged a conspicuous hue of mintish lime stood there, virtually blurred by two much nicer houses.

"You can't miss it," I mumbled.
