Chapter 1 - Observing Words

{Chapter One: Observing Words}

Sun rays pierced through the cracks in the curtains, giving the dim room a small source of light to feed on. The snow-white bed covers were draped over a rigid figure, the sheets moving up and down in a continuous and steady rhythm. Suddenly, the almost un-noticeable beeps that were calm just a moment before started picking up speed. A hand full of scars that was spread over the bed motionlessly suddenly gripped the bedsheets, making countless wrinkles on the smooth surface.

An abrupt movement surged from the bed, and the very same figure pounced up, letting out quickened breaths. They turned their head to inspect the room, looking closely at everything. They turned and twisted, observing each unknown object. They seemed to keep their head turned to the weird black rectangle situated at the foot of the bed hung up on the wall.

They soon turned their gaze to the bed on which they were laying and observed their own body. They lifted their hands, looked at them, and noticed two weird tubes hanging from their shoulder and above their palm. They were attached by a soft square bandage. The figure thought for a while before using two swift motions to rip them off. They winced at the slight pain, but then picked up the needles, following the tubes to where one of them was attached to a bag of some sort of clear liquid. The other seemed to lead to a bag of blood with some clean lines scribbled onto it.

Upon seeing the bag of blood, their eyes slightly widened in the dark, sun-lit room. They went to get up and found one of their legs enveloped in a large, thick layer of clean wraps. They ignored it and got up, supporting themselves on the bed railing before walking towards the nearby window.

Coincidentally, just as they were about to open the curtains, the door of the room opened. They quickly turned their head around, seeing a rather young woman standing at the door, staring at them.

"Ah- Uhm, sir you shouldn't be getting up! Your leg is still broken, please sit back down!!" The woman started walking towards him, her tone sounding worried. She suddenly stopped

when she saw the two tubes hanging from the bags that the figure had ripped out of himself earlier.

She snapped out of her shock, lifting her head back up to look at the person who had done such an act. The person had sturdy shoulders, and his neck, which was that of a young man, was long and slender, adding a sense of grace to his body structure. His nose was sharp, skin soft and tender, and dark brown hair draped over his shoulders, barely touching his chest. His eyes are what anyone would notice almost instantly. They were calm and steady, their color a vivid jade-like green, his pupils large and almost diamond-shaped.

This calm composure was broken just a moment later, the man's body which was once turned to the window changed direction to face the woman directly, his eyes seemed to turn dim as he asked in a stern and almost threatening voice, "Where am I, who are you, and what is that?" As he was saying his last question, he pointed at the two needles attached to the tubes.

The woman stood there, her mouth hanging slightly open, 'Could it be that this man has had memory loss?' She shook her head after further consideration, then sighed before giving him a reply, "You are currently being treated at Sulock Hospital, I am your current attending nurse," She paused and pointed at the tubes, "Those are...that clear one is an Antibiotic used to clear infections. That one with blood is for transfer of blood from a donator."

The man stepped forward, and the girl subconsciously took a step back, feeling his threatening aura as she involuntarily looked down at her feet. "Sulock? I've never heard of it. Is it within the north or western borders?" The woman stood motionless once again, her head hung low as she intentionally ignored his question, "Sir, please sit back down and I'll get you something to drink. Please refrain from touching any other medical devices in the future." She then rushed out of the room before the man could say another word.

The man seemed to be deep in thought for a moment. He slowly made his way back to the window, gripping the curtains before moving them aside, revealing a bright light. He squinted his eyes, taking a few seconds to adjust to the rays before his eyes widened as he saw many intertwining black paths as well as large unfamiliar "carts" placed onto the paths in an orderly manner. Each was of a different design and color, but all of them shared similar characteristics. The man tried looking into the distance, half expecting to see mountains laying atop a lush sea of trees, but instead saw many tall pillar-like structures all scattered upon the landscape.

A short while later, a knock sounded at the door. The man didn't reply, he merely turned his head to gaze at the door with a complicated expression written on his face. He fiddled with his fingers as the door started to creak open, light steps were taken as the same young woman who came to attend to him before made another appearance. She held a jug of water, not too large; she made her way to the table at the bedside and placed it gently atop the smooth surface.

The young woman looked up at the man, who was staring at the door. Specifically, he wasn't staring at the door but at a young man who was giving him a light smile as he leaned against the side of the door. He was dressed in a navy blue outfit, with a gold pin hanging from his chest. He was also equipped with a black belt; various devices and accessories were put into the small pockets and holds in the belt. He also had a simple hairstyle, tidy but not too formal. His hair was blond with darker roots, giving the impression of a lively mindset.

The latter gave an inaudible sigh, taking a seat back on the bed as his leg was finally giving in to the aching. The youth at the door took this as permission to enter the room, grabbing a chair as he walked towards the bed, unhurried.

"I trust you understand why I'm here?" The youth said, taking a seat as the nurse quietly made her way out of the room. The older sire looked at the youth, observing him openly as he hesitated before shaking his head, genuinely confused about the given situation. The youth pondered for a moment, "May I ask for your name, age, and country of birth?" He said so while reaching into his pocket, grabbing a few small sheets of yellow paper and a pen, holding them in a way that's ready to record anything the man would say.

The man's eyebrows knitted at this set of questions, his expression turning solemn. He adjusted his posture as his gaze shifted, piercing through the young adult before him, "Isn't it a proper courtesy to state your name before requesting for others? And if I may add," He paused, lifting his head to stare directly at the eyes of the youth, "What's the point of asking such useless questions when you have another reason for being here?"

The latter was stunned. He gulped involuntarily as he opened his mouth, considering his options then changing his choice of words at the last moment, "I apologize, I'm known as Officer Choi, and to be frank I'm here because we haven't found an ID on you when you were discovered, furthermore, the only items that were found in your possession are rather dangerous, some of which are stated to be illegal to own without proper licensing. This proves you to be suspicious of recent crimes near the area where you were found injured."

The man chuckled, "ID? Discovered? Is this a joke?" The youth seemed greatly confused, the man's face suddenly turned shockingly dark. The room turned silent as the two men stared at each other. Just as Choi shifted his gaze to another object, a loud thud sounded out in the room. Choi felt an unbearable force situated at his neck as he toppled to the side and crashed into the ground, a large body holding him down. He tried taking a breath out of sheer instinct, but instead of feeling a fresh bulk of air, he felt his air pipe firmly blocked as a tattered hand applied more force by the second. He was pressed against the ground with no escape points to his use.

The room door was slammed open only seconds after the attack was made. Choi tried struggling again as he was slowly blacking out; he attempted to reach the older man's key points, but the act was proven useless. A shout was heard but he couldn't understand what had been said as his mind went blank. He heard a few more muffled voices as he faded into the darkness.
