Things changed.
AK's morning visits tapered to an end and Kenny enthusiastically took over dropping Kate at work. It was weird the pleasure he derived from that simple task. And he still harbored a smarting of envy at AK for enjoying it this whole time.
Kenny met Matron after Kate had shyly told him that she knew everything about their marriage. He had been nervous to meet the woman that Kate took as a mother. Not just because of her resemblance to Kate's mother but the care and advice the woman doled out in quantum.
Surprisingly, against Kenny's expectations, she didn't admonish him. She received him warmly and even prayed for the lasting of their marriage. To which Kenny answered a loud and enthusiastic 'Amen'.
Summons from his father ceased. Even Susan had become quiet. She had obviously realized that he'd been serious about the breakup.
