Among the things recovered from the scene of the crime was Mercy's phone. It had taken a couple of days before the detective finally brought the phone to him. The man had explained that it had to be registered as evidence in the case. So, detective Okon had actually done Jim a favour to bring the phone. Because, days after being saved from Nat's bullet by Mercy, he still did not know where to find his kids.

Jim had not been worried about the safety of the children. He had missed them, yet, he had known there were in good hands. Mercy, while bleeding out in his arms had managed to choke out that the children where with her mother. By that time, Jim had been too panicked for her life to care so much about his children. The fact that they were with Mercy's mother had assured him they were in good hands. So, that assurance had left him free to focus his concern solely on Mercy.
