"This isn't going to work. It sounds weird," Mercy tried for the umpteenth time to wriggle her way out of this man's life and out of what she had started.
She should have backed out when he had given her a chance. Why in God's name had she not taken the chance he had given her in his office that first day? The man had practically asked her to forget about the baby. He had asked her to take a monetary reward to forget about the child. But she had refused.
Mercy was barely taking care of her own small family - her mother and cousin - of course, she could not have been able to care for a baby who needed lots of milk. And God, milk was expensive. She could explain what had gotten into her to demand that Doctor Jim involve her in everything concerning the baby. At this point, things were extremely complicated and she had no idea how to go forward.
