February 2nd, 1987.
Leaving had been the most difficult decision Kate had ever had to take in her life. However, no matter how painful it had been, no matter how she had bawled in the taxi the ride driving her away from love eternal, no matter how uncertain she had been that she had been doing the right thing, there had been no turning back. Stanley's actions had broken the camel's back.
Kate had continuously imagined the worst every time she recalled that morning's scenario. What if Stanley had succeeded in raping her and then, perhaps, lied about it to Kenny? She would have been tagged a whore, worsening the situation. It had been better to leave. It had not been easy or less painful to come to that conclusion despite all the reasoning and justifications she told herself to feel better.
