Chapter 15 - A bad dream

Chunhee fell asleep immediately after he finished that glass of milk. Although his mind was filled with thoughts regarding his future plans, he did not expect he would be dreaming about it so soon. In this particular dream, he dreamt of being in a building full of the most expensive and high class decorations with people wearing the best gowns and suits.

It was then he realized that the building was no other than that building – where he – or more like the sixth Chunhee – ended his life.

Quick enough, the ominous futuristic event flashed right before his eyes and Chunhee was left frozen to his feet. No matter if it was only a dream, the surrounding felt too real that it almost gave him a heart attack. Of all things he could remember and dream of, it really had to be the one where he died! Wasn't the Plot God being too mean?

Everything played out once more and Chunhee was forced to watch it without doing anything. He remained on the side as he did in the original storyline, wearing a giddy and beautiful smile as he greeted the guests to his wedding one by one.

Family, friends, colleagues – everyone he and Yujin regarded close were all present.

The current Chunhee couldn't help but have feel an intense coldness in his heart. Time ticked and Chunhee could only watch the scene changed. In an instant, he found himself on that rooftop. Sorrow filled his clear eyes as he stood by the edge, then with one final glance – at somewhere, someone, he wasn't sure anymore, the only thing he could feel was the hot and fresh tears falling from his eyes.

"I pray, in our next life…" Chunhee felt his own lips mutter before everything went to a complete stop, the atmosphere becoming hazy, the wind becoming stronger as if the world has fallen into a state with only static, unrecognized sounds could be heard.

"Big brother… Big Brother…"

Chunhee heard a small voice. Then slowly, he opened his eyes.

The blurred images cleared out and a faint shadow of a person appeared right next to him on his bed. Bright and clear as the sun outside, the little girl's eyes intently looked at Chunhee. With a soft voice full of worry, she asked, "Big Brother, are you okay? Why are you crying? … Did someone hurt you in your dream? Was it that monster again…?"

Then as if it wasn't enough, she moved to hug Chunhee's arm. "Please don't cry, big brother… Hanna is here. Hanna will protect you from those monsters..."

Chunhee's glassy eyes looked at the little girl beside him. Right, this was Hanna, his little sister. He wasn't exactly sure what monsters he had told Hanna before but it seemed even his little sister was scared of Chunhee's nightmares too. He wondered if they were the same nightmares he had just now.

Chunhee tried to move and reach for Hanna's head, patting her softly as he tried to smile. "It's okay… Hanna. Big brother is fine. I'm not scared of them." Not anymore, he couldn't be scared of something that he had already experienced before. No matter what, they were going to be changed anyway. Right?
