Chapter 40 - Chapter 40

Everyone seemed to already arrive at the royal palace.

The kings and queens had their meetings with their children.

While the side where Sylvia's royal family stood had a cold and quiet atmosphere.

But no one seemed to notice, especially when king Salman appeared.

He was always an outgoing man with a strong voice and personality filled with laughter.

He joined his daughter.

"How is my favorite child?" He asked.

Cassis jumped, "Can't you be a little more oblivious about it?"

Both Diana and her father turned to look at him with an ugly expression, turning to each other to enjoy their conversation after a while.

"Hey, don't ignore me," screamed Cassis.

But they were deaf to his voice.

Suddenly Salman grinned at his daughter. "A fine man you got there."

She gave him a mischievous smile. "Oh, I know."

They turned to look at the other side of the garden.

There stood Rin and Sakura, talking seriously with their parents.

"He is the talk of the town," said Salman. "That was a pretty smart move he did this morning. Now they know he is there to make sure his mother's plans run smoothly."

"I would expect no less from him," she said.

"His mother is terrifying to deal with too," he continued.

"She is amazing. And her son is too."

Salman smiled at her. "Don't forget your father is still the most handsome man!" he said proudly, laughing like a madman.

Diana held her head sighing, but also smiling inside warmly.

She suddenly noticed her father's hands and arms shaking.

"You," she said with widened eyes.

"Ey, your man can pack a punch," he said again laughing.

She also started laughing. "You lost old geezer."

"Ey no, that was a draw," he said embarrassed.

She laughed harder at him.

"It wasn't you who beat me. Why are you laughing so hard!"

"Oh, I would love to go right now bald head."

They grinned at each other.

Suddenly Salman turned to touch his head. "Hey come on now your father is still young," he said with a sad voice.

Diana chuckles and they both started laughing.

Her eyes suddenly fell on Cayn's figure with his black shirt.

Watching her from afar.

She turned to her father as she stopped laughing.

She didn't take her eyes off Cayn. "Father, I shall speak with you later," she spoke with a gentle voice, then walked away.

"What why are you speaking forma-" he was also confused by her expression but, following her line of sight he just sighed. "And here I thought it was a surprise she acted like a proper lady for once."

He turned to face Cassis. "Straighten your chest man," he said hitting his son's back.

He sighed comparing his children in his mind.

He turned to look at Diana's back with mixed emotions.

"Ow, ow, ow-" screamed Cassis next to him.

"Oh," he woke up from his trance. Found himself crushing his son's shoulder.

He let go. "My bad," he said. Taking a moment he spoke again, "Cry baby."

"Ha," Cassis was about to cry.

Diana was making her way toward Cayn.

Smiling, walking graciously.

She stood before him.

Cayn held his hand asking for hers.

She beautifully laid her gentle fingers, for Cayn to hold it tenderly and kiss it delicately.

"Charming for a man who just beat up my father," she said with a smile.

Cayn used his other hand to hold her waist.

"You seemed proud of my actions," he said inclining his head, resting on hers while closing his eyes.

"Oh yes, there was never a moment I wasn't proud since I knew you," she said closing her eyes. Running her hand on his back.

Their fingers intertwined while holding hands.

They were no music, yet they were slowly dancing standing still, at a slow and gentle pace.

"I am proud of you too," he said after breathing out heavily.

She smiled warmly.

"Since our parents are willing. Let's get married," spoke Cayn.

Diana chuckled. "You come running as soon as you finish talking to father?"

"I believe to think I was rather being patient waiting until your father arrived," he said smiling.

"Or what? You would send a letter to him asking for my hand?"

"Hmm, a letter would be too slow."

She laughed, "Yeah, you would probably just show up in his office all of a sudden."

"Rude of you to assume I wouldn't knock."

"Knock my father's head if he says no?"

"Tch, maybe."

They laughed as they hugged each other, immersed in the warm feeling of each other's embrace.

"I," spoke Diana all of a sudden, as her fingers clenched on his clothes. "I wish to be by your side for the rest of our lives. I, am sure."

Cayn's hand slowly rubbed her back. "And I wish to take care of you, for the rest of our lives."

Her hands clutched harder. "You, won't change, right..."

Cayn held her firmly yet gently. Placed his fingers on her chin with the other hand.

She opened her trembling eyes to look at his.

They were cold, calm, yet shining brightly in a graceful light.

She chuckled, "I believe I already know the answer."

Her eyes teared up for some reason.

Cayn smiled warmly.

She was struck by his warm eyes.

He delicately placed a kiss on her forehead and hugged her tightly without saying a word.

She placed her hands around his waist and closed her eyes in his arms.

Safe, she was safe.

Cayn took a breath, wrapping his hands around her more.

Breathing out heavily he rested his head on her shoulder.

Her fingers gently cuddled his hair.

"Your heartbeat, is like a calm and relaxing melody to my ears, while everything else grows silent," he said.

She chuckled. For a beast like him who can listen to people's heartbeats means his hearing is monstrously sensitive. It must be a loud world in his ears.

He placed his head better on her shoulder.

She held him gently. "Does it help?"

She could feel him nodding on her shoulder.

She smiled. "I am happy then."

Silence spoke for a moment.

"Can I," he said, "come hear it often?"

She chuckled. "I am yours," she tried raising his head. "Why would you ask something obvious?"

She tilted her head a bit as she couldn't see his eyes hidden behind his long hair.

He turned his head.

She met his eyes.

They were tired.

Cayn raised his lips to smile but one could barely call it that.

She felt her heart break to pieces.

She couldn't utter a word.

She smiled warmly and placed his head on her shoulder again.

"Anytime, dear."
