Chapter 2 - Drop what you are doing and go home.

So there I was, smoking crack cocaine or some Shamanistic Turd that gave magical visions...

Whatever I was on was STRONG. I mean, it really looked like that corpse just re-blew its head off.

Stacy screamed and Jim proceeded to open fire on the corpse, as ya' do.

Holes appeared in the unmoving mass, then his partner waved his hands and screamed, "STOP FIRING, YOU HAVE TO HIT THE BRAIN!"

Jim pointed at the corpse, "IT DOESN'T HAVE ONE!"

At least, that is what I imagined the two were screaming at each other as the ringing was unbearably LOUD.

~RINGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG~

That was all I could hear.

"-------,--------!"

"----, —--, —-."

Ah, yes, excellent point Stacy. Your understanding of Zombology is unmatched.

The ringing wasn't painful, but I could feel pressure like it might have been.

Jim and his partner took over the scene, they were moving us towards the door. I just watched and got pushed to the side by the Doctor, who was running out of his worst nightmare. The guy looked terrified, though, if I worked on corpses and one came to life, I'd probably run away too.

The ringing was subsiding and I could make out what they were all saying again, "Mike, grab the shotgun and move it away."

Mike stood there frozen.

"GO, I will drop it if it tries anything." He was locked on for a shot as the skinny man quickly slid in and out of the danger zone.

"Good, now call fucking everyone." Jim was sweating but he was an experienced Field Training Officer and realized his error.

"I need you to get on channel 4." The man responded to that order with a few clicks, "Good, now tell the operator there has been shots fired at this address. Then ask for a Level 4 mobilization of New York City." He started to cry a little as the rookie spoke with the operator.

"Officer, are you injured." Came back over the radio.

Jim recognized the voice and gestured for the radio, "Shantel, is that you?"

The operator returned, "What is going on, Jim? Your rookie is talking nonsense."

He shook his head while holding the Glock, "Fucking ZOMBIES. I know you are going to say I am pranking you." He fired off into the corpse with the radio on.

He yelled, "I AM NOT PLAYING!"

"WE NEED EVERYONE. This corpse grabbed its gun and shot itself. We need. Everyone. A 9/11 response."

He was shaking as the radio went silent for a few moments. That was until a few words fell across the room, "I'll see what I can do."

The fire of hope was lit. We just had to wait and we'd have the national fucking guard here in minutes.

We all stood away from the corpse while we waited.

It hadn't moved again, but that could apparently change at any moment.

Stacy crumpled to the ground and pulled out her phone to call her family, but as she did so, her phone went black with a Wireless Emergency Alert.

The audio just began to play, "My fellow Americans, today is one of tremendous change. A time of turmoil, of rebirth. But. I know that we will weather the storm, just as we always have. My speech writers wrote a lot of flowery language, but let me be clear, we are not alone in the Universe. Or, more accurately, we are slipping out of our own Universe. Things will change rapidly. Times will be tough. But, we must ascend to the next dimensional plane."

A long pause was cutting off the air in the room.

"All world leaders have been notified. We elected to slowly introduce ideas into popular culture. But please do not panic. Please wait until the ascension. You will understand. For now, go home. Be with loved ones. Please. Be safe on your travels, because you don't want to miss what is coming."

The message ended abruptly but Biden sounded, uh, happy?

Jim was floored, "Aliens are real? Did Biden just confirm aliens?

Stacy chimed in, "I know a lot of people that play fantasy games. They play Dark Spirit..or maybe Souls? Yeah, I think it is Dark Souls."

I just nodded and added, "I used to play a lot of D&D. Like. Multiple campaigns a week."

Mike looked confused, "What is D&D?"

Jimbo responded, "It is some devil-worshiping hippie game made for nerds."

I cracked up, "Jimbo only says that because he walked into an open pitfall trap that the party had already discovered."

He lazily smacked my arm as we all stood there...

Nobody really wanted to ask the bigger question, but I had to do something.

"So! What are we doing. Can I get an ETA on the whole "mobilization of New York City?"

Jim nodded, "This is 424, Sergeant Jefferies. I need an ETA on backup."

Another voice responded but this one was robotic, "Please return to your home and await further instruction."

Jim was confused and asked, "Shantel, are you there?"

No response.

The voice replayed its message, "Please return to your home and await further instruction, Sergeant Jefferies."

He let go of the mic and let it swing from Mike's shoulder.

I was stunned, "Are they just…done?"

My mind was racing. Is this really the end of the world? Are we really doing this?

Mike was looking around and then he just…walked away, "I am going home. Catch y'all later."

Jimbo, Stacy, and I just watched him leave.

"Do we leave?" I asked.

The body was on the bed, but like, we couldn't really deal with it. Plus, there should be people coming.

Jim looked to me, "You are alone right? Want to come with me?"

I nodded, "Stacy, you can go home, take the Ambulance."

I patted myself down for the keys but then she spoke up, "I have them. I drove."

Right.

We all walked out onto the porch and the Doc was long gone, but his assistant was freaking out, "I-I-I-I just graduated, I want to start a family, I need-I need." He was pacing around the driveway.

Jim shouted, "HEY! Just go home man."

The man nearly jumped out of his skin. He was looking around, "Who said that?"

Jim laughed, "Me, motherfucker, hello??" He waved at him but the guy just spun around.

I walked down the stairs, "Hey, we are friends right? Just take a seat on the ground and take some deep breaths."

He looked towards me but didn't respond until I was close enough to touch him, "AHH! WHAT THE HELL?"

He turned and ran away, leaving his bag and equipment behind.

Jim shouted, "YO, T? WHERE YOU AT?"

I looked back, "I am right here, can't you see me?"

Then I realized.

Jim was gone, "Wait, where the fuck are you?"

A voice that sounded like Jim's was getting closer, "I am right here. You disappeared when you got close to the ME's pet nerd. Which I am guessing is right….here."

He was apparently putting his arm into the space I walked through, given how I could now see a bodiless arm, which is somehow not the weirdest thing I have seen today.

"Oh." we muttered.

"X-files fuckery." Jim spat out.

I nodded as he walked entirely through.

"This is just a guess, but maybe the dimensional instability is causing fractures in reality? Like, 5th dimensional relativity colliding with our 4th dimension?"

Jim just looked at me like I was an idiot.

I frowned, "What?"

He smiled, "Nothing."

I cringed, "No. What. Dude don't do this, just tell me what."

He smirked.

Then he walked off.

I followed and asked, "Where we going?"

"Well, I was going to go to the station, but if you and Sleepy Joe are correct, then I would like to get high and play with my dog."

I nodded, "It has been a while since I saw Commander Shepard."

We got in the squad car and then I realized, "Wait, if you had the keys, where did your rookie go?"

He shrugged, "I don't know, Rookie daycare?"

I smiled, "Isn't that your job?"

He started it up with a grunt and we were off.
