Gianni arrives at the western forest from the Capital, where the summer fair is currently being held. He has returned to his home and presented himself before his father who accepted him back and named him his heir to the title of count to the County of Saint-Amour. It was an event of embraces and tears, as Gianni's mother finally sees him again after years of not seeing his face.

The three ride a carriage that takes them to the western gate. As they exit the gate, the carriage makes its way to the western forest, where in a patch of clearing the red tents of the summer fair stood.
