Chapter 10 - Chapter 10: Yamato-sensei's Examination

It had been a few minutes since the lunch break ended, at this moment team 11, consisting of Asahi Toru, Hyuga Hinata and Yamanaka Ino, were waiting for the sensei who will be in charge of the team.

"Isn't this taking a while?" Rising from her seat, Ino peeked her head out the door, but saw no one.

(This is really annoying, first they put me on the same team as the weirdo and now it turns out that the sensei who is in charge of our team was late) Returning to her seat, Ino made a disgusted face. It had already been almost half an hour, but sensei wasn't coming.

"Maybe sensei had something to do before coming here."

Clasping her hands together and looking at the floor, Hinata spoke, for some reason she felt the atmosphere was heavy.

"Then all we have left to do is wait" Resigning herself, Ino rested her head on the table and closed her eyes.

While Ino and Hinata waited for sensei, Toru just stared at the window with typical expressionlessness on his face. His eyes narrowed for a second as he tried to think about the choices for the teams and about the sensei assigned to them.

(Who will be the sensei to lead our team?)

Crossing his arms, Toru let out a long sigh, for the moment he had to think about what he would do from now on.

"I'm getting sick of this already, when is the sensei going to arrive?" Rising from her seat once more, Ino spoke up, her look only showed how upset she is.

But as Ino complained, the door opened, revealing a man. He had short brown hair, his eyes were black and he was wearing the Jounin's vest.

"Sorry I'm late, I had some things to talk to Hokage-sama about" Scratching his head, the man spoke.

In response to that, Ino only showed her displeasure.

"Are you really our sensei?"

Looking at the man from head to toe, Ino could only think that the man in front of her was a lousy shinobi.

"Uh... yes, I'm the Jounin-ranked ninja who will be leading this team" With a friendly expression on his face, the man spoke. At first glance he appeared to be a calm and sociable man.

(Unbelievable, I'm always surrounded by weird guys, first the fool looking at the window like an idiot and now this guy with the aura of an old man)

"Okay, now, how about we go out for a while? We'd better introduce ourselves in a more comfortable environment."

(So he's our sensei? I was expecting someone less calm, but I guess this is better) Rising from his seat, Toru headed for the exit.

"Wait for me, Toru-kun" Getting up from her seat as well, Hinata followed Toru.

"This is getting too stressful" looking sensei in the eyes, Ino walked through the door.

After the students left the classroom, sensei sighed.

"I still still think that Kakashi set me up, he didn't tell me that I would become the Jounin in charge of a team" The man said as he followed the students.

-Somewhere near the Ninja Academy-

Everyone was sitting on the stairs in front of sensei. Toru was keeping his poker face, Hinata was just looking at the sky with a calm expression on her face and Ino was just lamenting over and over again while wondering why am I on this team?

"Well, now that we are here, it's time for introductions" Said the man as he looked at his students with a slight smile.

"My name is Yamato and as you may already know, I'm a Jounin. There are a few things I like, such as hot spring baths, and good food. I also like to be nice and friendly, but I have no problem ruling through fear."

After hearing that, Ino could only think about her future being on that team.

"Now that I've introduced myself it's your turn, how about you?" looking at Hinata, Yamato spoke, he could see the bright future that awaits Hinata.

"Um... yeah" Rising from her place, Hinata looked at Ino and Toru, seconds later introducing herself properly.

"My name is Hyuga Hinata, I'm from the Hyuga clan. Um... there are many things I like, uh... in the future I want to become someone strong and worthy... someone who is capable of leading a clan."

Looking straight ahead with determination in her eyes, Hinata's words surprised Toru. He only remembered the Hinata of four years ago, that scary and weak girl, but now....

(I don't know what happened to her, but... it seems that people do have the ability to change who they are).

After listening to Hinata's presentation, Toru could only think of himself, his way of being had not changed at all in these last years.

"Okay, now you" As Hinata took her seat once again, Yamato looked at Ino, who was still looking displeased.

"Ha~ My name is Ino, Yamanaka Ino, there's only one thing I like, and that thing is Sasuke, I plan to make him fall in love with me in the future."

With that brief introduction, Ino took her seat, everyone in the place was silent at the pitiful introduction Ino made. Even Toru was affected by Ino's presentation.

"In Ino's head there are two things, Sasuke and air, air is what's most in Ino's head" Opening the book in his hand, Toru spoke, and what he said didn't please Ino at all.

"What did you say weirdo?"

Ignoring Ino's words, Toru started reading the book, this made Ino even more angry, but luckily Yamato stopped Ino, preventing Toru from ending up in the hospital.

"Calm down both of you, you are in the same team, so you will obligatorily have to get along, otherwise..." Yamato's face changed to a strange expression, which for some reason was trying to be scary, though in the end it was quite the opposite.

"Well, only you are missing" Yamato said as he looked at Toru.

In response to this, Toru closed the book and stood up.

"I'm Asahi Toru, I don't have any dreams I want to fulfill in the future, there aren't many things I like either, I just live based on luck."

Closing his eyes, Toru finished speaking. Yamato watched this with an expression of uncertainty, it had been a long time since he had seen someone so empty.

"Ha~ so, the introductions are finished, but there's still something left to do."

"Something to do?" said Ino while trying to guess what Yamato was going to say.

"Yes, a test before we make up the team completely" Closing her eyes and crossing her arms.

Ino's eyes widened unable to believe what she had heard, after trying so hard in order to graduate she still had to complete one last exam.

"But that can't be possible, they didn't tell us any of that."

Rising from her seat, Ino protested, she didn't want to let all the effort and time she put in to be able to graduate go to waste.

"What will the exam consist of?" Raising her hand, Hinata asked, to which Yamato, with a slight smile on his face replied.

"Let's just say it will be a surprise" Yamato said while putting on an awkward smile.

"Still don't know what to do for the exam, Yamato-sensei?"

With a strange gleam in his eyes, Toru looked at Yamato, who gave up on the boy in front of him and replied.

"I don't have the exam prepared yet because someone is going to help me with that" Remembering Kakashi, Yamato sighed.

"Well, in any case, I plan to take the exam tomorrow at 5am. I will tell you the details tomorrow itself, so you don't have to worry, I will make sure to make an exam according to your abilities" Yamato said while crossing his arms.

"Seriously, today is the worst day of my life" Dropping her arms over her shoulders, Ino lamented, not only had she not been chosen on Sasuke's team, but she also had to give a final exam in order to stay on the team.

"So that was it for today, I'll see you all tomorrow at 5 a.m. at the training ground."

"Wait, sensei" Ino tried to stop Yamato, but he disappeared in the blink of an eye.

"Then I'm leaving too" Hinata said as she gave a slight bow.

"Same here" Doing the same as Hinata, Toru arranged his scarf and disappeared from the place.

"Wait! Ahh! Why is everyone ignoring me?" Tapping the nearest tree, Ino spoke up, she had been left all alone, she had been ignored by everyone, the only thing her mind was thinking was that she had the worst luck of them all.

"Seriously, I don't plan to fail that exam, I swear I will pass and make Sasuke fall in love with me" Putting her hands around her waist, Ino burst out laughing as if she had lost her sanity.

-The next day-

Walking at a slow pace, Toru covered his face with the scarf, it was getting very cold since it was very early in the morning.

"Yamato-sensei... I never heard that name. Normally Jounin are very well known in Konohagakure, like Hatake Kakashi or Might Guy, however, I never heard that sensei's name."

Stuffing his hands in his pockets, Toru paused to think for a moment. Yamato seemed to be an ordinary man, quiet and friendly.

"It's strange, there's something strange with him. In this exam... I must try my best, if he continued to hold back my potential, I will eventually become useless."

After saying that, Toru disappeared into the shadows, to minutes later appear on the training field.

"Good morning, you're the first to arrive."

Yamato felt Toru's presence the instant he appeared, not for nothing is he a Jounin rank ninja.

"I couldn't sleep well last night, so I woke up earlier than usual" Toru looked at Yamato, he was trying to decipher what his sensei was planning.

"Drinking green leaf tea can help relax the muscles, it's also something that makes it easier to sleep" Looking at the road in front of him, Yamato spoke. At a glance it seemed to be an everyday conversation between sensei and student.

"I'll keep that in mind" Toru closed his eyes and crossed his arms "Looks like they've arrived."

In the distance, two girls appeared, one of them had golden hair, while the second had black colored hair.

"Good morning, Yamato-sensei, Toru-kun."

Bowing, Hinata greeted, still appreciating being a bit sleepy from waking up so early.

"Hello everyone..." Ino said while yawning and rubbing her eyes.

At the same time, the sun on the horizon began to rise, as a great hope of light flooded the earth. The sky brightened and the birds began to sing.

"Well, since you're all here, it's time to start the exam."

Toru prepared himself for what was coming, he didn't know what kind of exam he was about to take, but he still had to give his 100% in order to become a true ninja.

"The test you will be taking today is... playing hide and seek.

"What?" they all said in unison as Yamato looked at everyone with a serious expression.
