"Theo!"
"Theodore!"
"Where are you, you bastard" a female voice resounded in the ruins. She seemed to be in serious destress as she threw things around violently in her search. As she did, tears fell uncontrollably from her eyes.
"Dr. Charlotte, he will be okay. We will find him" a male voice seemingly comforting the distressed female finally caused Theodore to stir under a pile of rubble. Surprisingly, his stirring didn't seem to attract any attention. He groaned and called out but he was too weak to raise his voice and no one seemed to hear him. Slowly opened his eyes, Theodore found himself to be in darkness. Feeling around the ground, it seemed like he was lying on a pile of huge rocks. He slowly sat up and waited for his eyes to adjust to the darkness which surprisingly didn't take much time at all. However, what he saw when he regained sight terrified him so much that his face turned white and he could not even let out a word. For one, he could tell it was very dark but somehow he could see everything almost as bright as day but his peripheral vision only revealed darkness. What scared him most however was the mighty rocks and the size of the grains of sand on which he was sitting. Everything was so huge that he felt really small.
However, Theodore had a special admirable personality trait. He could easily adapt to situation no matter how ridiculous it seemed. Growing up in a poor home, he had experienced his fair share of shock, disappointment, fear, surprises and other thrilling emotions so much that even though he still felt them, he knew how to accept things and at the same time let go.
Unfortunately, it didn't always work, for example when that distressed female voice sounded calling out his name, all he felt was pain from the memory of how thy broke up a few hours earlier before the accident. However, none of that was his concern at the moment, he had to figure out why everything seemed so much bigger and to do that, the first step was to climb out of the rubble to the surface. Looking up at the stacks of rocks, metal, glass, wood and other unidentifiable objects which stacked like a mighty mountain before him, Theodore sighed at the difficult journey ahead of him. Fortunately, while he was not an athletic person, he was quite healthy and thanks to his daily excersie in very good shape too.
When Theodore started climbing, he expected many things but the last thing he expected what that it would take more than a day. On the second day of his climbing, a giant hand reached down and picked up a rock above him and he realized just what had happened to him. Nothing was wrong with the world, nothing increased in size and he wasn't moved to some canyon or cave, the world was exactly the same but he wasn't. He had shrunk to the size of about one centimeter which made everything else seem huge and mighty. It was quite difficult for him to accept but after a few hours of sitting without moving he was struck with a terrifying realization that he was in the rubble of a University laboratory with scientists searching everywhere for their research, people to rescue or any other salvageable thing. If by any chance he was discovered, the thought of what would happen to him sent a chill down his spine.
While he was thinking of how to get out, time passed and soon it was night again and the people searching the rubble was almost all gone. It was at this moment that he heard a whimper. While he had shrunk, he couldn't understand exactly what happened but sounds was not much different from when he was a normal human, aside of course for his increased hearing sensitivity.
"Theo I'm sorry. I didn't want to break up with you, I just wanted more from our relationship not this. Please don't die now" he heard the female from before again. She was Dr. Charlotte Queen, the lead scientist of the cancer research team in Valtech and his girlfriend for three years. She had invited him to her lab the day before, or two days before, he had lost track of time as by the time he gained consciousness it was already nighttime but it was day when the accident happened. When he arrives, things was going well and they had lunch together when she asked about his parents and expressed her desire to meet them. It had led to an argument when he told her he didn't want her to meet his parents yet and she broke up with him.
Hearing her voice, he hesitated for a while before climbing to the surface when he saw her giant figure kneeling on the rubble.
"Charlotte" he called but she didn't respond.
"Charlotte!" He called again without any response from her. He stepped forward and tapped on her knee.
Charlotte was thinking about the events four days ago and regretting how things ended when she felt something moving on her leg. Annoyed she swatted down absentmindedly but just before her and reached, she noticed something that caused her to freeze.
"What the-" she muttered.
"You- wha- what?" She couldn't believe her eyes nor could she understand what she was seeing. She reached down slowly and Thedore climbed on it.
"Oh my god! Theo it's you" she let out an excited breath seemingly forgetting his condition. It was then that confusion hit her, she wanted to hug or kiss him but he was too small for any of that and she got confused but only for a moment before terror stuck and she cupped him with her other hand looking around frantically.
"Charlotte? Charlotte!" Theodore called tapping her soft palm which was almost squashing him
"I- I'm sorry, what happened to you?" She opened her hand and whispered lowering her face to him.
"Uh- too close, pull up" Theodore covered his face with his hand and Charlotte cheeks blushed. She lowered him from her face and observed him.
"Fascinating" she muttered with interest, the scientist in her stirring.
"Charlotte, please get me out of here" Theodore pleaded when he saw her getting distracted.
"Don't worry, I won't put you in a glass box" she teased happily and cleaned her tears with her other hand.
Rising quickly she rushed out of the rubble.
"I won't put you in a glass box but you have to answer some questions for me since I am saving your life" she joked as she hurried to her car.
"You cry like a baby" he teased her back. Suddenly he was struck with a dizzy spell and just as he was about.to say something, he fell unconscious and his body fell out of Charlotte's hand. Fortunately, she was quite conscious and noticed when he started falling so she quickly caught him with her other hand trying to lower her hand at the same speed his body was falling so that she didn't harm him. Raising him to her face, she felt him breathing and let out a relieved breath that he was alive. That was when she noticed his heart seemed to beat about three times faster and he became confused. Without wasting any more time, she increased her pace and rushed to her car.
