My mom wants me to go to a good school so I won't have any bad influences. She enrolled me in a private christian school. It's a boarding school so I'll be living here for the whole year. I stuff my dairy into my bag and walk to the girls' dorm with my mom. There's a lot of people with their luggage waiting in the lobby. Not too bad, I think to myself. It's a nice spacious area. As the dean walks up to us, she asks for my name. Once she finds it on her clipboard, she looks up at us, " You're a freshman, so your room is on the 2nd floor. Your room number is 214, here's your keys. Lose them, and you have to pay a fee for a new pair. " she hands me the keys and walks to the next person. There's no elevator to we take the stairs. It's in the middle of the hallway, but the best part is that it's right next to the bathroom and showers. I won't have to walk far. Finally, something good to look forward to. "So. what are you thinking about?" My mom nudges my arm. I walk around the room, trying to imagine how to make it feel like home. suddenly, the door swings open, "OMG " Destiny squels. " Were roommates!" she beams from ear to ear. Destiny is such an outgoing girl. I don't know how we became friends since I'm so awkwardly anti-social. I feel as if all my worries and doubts quiet down. I turn to her and match the excitement. "This is gonna be the best year ever!" I grab my remaining bags, I put them on the unmade bed. I quickly turn and call out dibs on top bunk. " I'm fine with that, I like bottom anyway. This works out perfectly."
It's getting late. Our parents say their last farewells. To be honest, this is the first time I'll be away from my mom. I've never had many chances to be independent. I'm excited. I can't wait to see what this year has in store
