Kai waited anxiously outside the ICU, worry etched on his face with each breath he took. After Dariel suddenly informed him that Ilene's condition had dropped again, his worry returned as if God didn't allow him to calm down even a little bit. Inside the ICU, Dariel, alongside several doctors and nurses, was doing everything possible to care for Ilene. Unsettling thoughts began to invade Kai's mind, yet he refused to accept the worst.
"Please, Sis … I know you can do it," Kai murmured softly, bowing his head and closing his eyes in prayer, hoping for a miracle to keep Ilene by his side.
Fifteen minutes later, Dariel stepped out of the ICU, his expression difficult to read. There was a reluctance in his eyes, a hesitation to say what needed to be said. Kai and the others approached him, full of hope.
"Kai, you can go in now. I … I'm sorry," Dariel whispered, his face now solemn. Hearing that of course Kai couldn't think positively.
