The next day, Kalea actually brought her resignation letter to John. She also received a lot of questions from her fellow employees because yesterday she suddenly disappeared and went out with a handsome young businessman.
"What exactly happened? The manager fainted in the VIP room. I even thought he was dead," Theo whispered. It was the man who first found John lying helpless in the room.
"Does it have something to do with you, Lea?"
Kalea only smiled slightly, she understood their curiosity. "I want to see the manager," Kalea said, making the others even more suspicious.
"You guys hurry to work, don't talk too much!" someone snapped, making those who were there flinch and immediately resumed cleaning before the restaurant opened. With the exception of Kalea, she remained calm even though John was looking at her disapprovingly. The man's face was bruised and he had a cast on one hand. Kalea was sure that John was in pain all over. However, the man still forced himself to go to work.
"It's not time for you to work, Lea. What's the matter?" John asked as if he had forgotten what happened last night.
Without further ado, Kalea handed the mustachioed man a letter of resignation. "Starting today, I don't work here anymore, Sir," she said very calmly.
Suddenly, everyone there was wide-eyed in shock. John's face getting more and more upset, he skimmed the letter. "Do you know what happens if you resign from here?"
"I have to pay the penalty? I'll pay it," Kalea replied as she took out a pile of money and gave it to John.
John's jaw hardened, annoyance mounting at the girl for seeming to underestimate him. She smiled slyly. "Do you think the money is enough? Since you resigned in front of the other workers, the penalty is even bigger!" John snapped as he flicked the money around.
Kalea gaped in disbelief. She knew, and all the other workers knew, that John was emotionally unstable. He was always bossy and irritable even on trivial matters. However, this had gone too far. Kalea glanced at her friends who were now looking at her with pity and fear. They couldn't help it because John really didn't mess around when he was angry.
"How much do you want?" asked Kalea, she was really fed up with the man's face and wanted to get out of here.
John laughed loudly at Kalea's words which he found funny. "You're very arrogant now, aren't you, Lea? You think you have a lot of money? Whereas yesterday you were begging for a raise in your salary," he said contemptuously to Kalea.
Kalea's hands began to clench, her ex manager was intent on humiliating her in front of the others. John walked with shaky steps because his leg was still sore from being stepped on by Arthur yesterday. "Did the guy from yesterday manage to fuck you? Until you can be arrogant like this," John whispered, making Kalea's emotions rise even higher.
Without hesitation, Kalea immediately slapped the man, the sound of her slap was so loud. Everyone there continued to be shocked by Kalea and John's actions. The girl's hand was still shaking after slapping him.
"You! How dare you slap your boss?!" John snapped angrily until the veins on his face popped out.
"You're not my boss anymore! You're absolutely disgusting!" retorted Kalea until her breath caught. The tears she had been holding back were now falling.
"Lea!" shouted Rosalia and went straight to the brunette girl. The woman hugged Kalea trying to calm her down. Meanwhile, Kalea was still looking contemptuously at John. "You must be prosecuted."
"What do you mean?!"
Two burly men wearing sunglasses walked into the restaurant. Everyone there was confused because the restaurant wasn't ready to open. And their stature was a little scary. "I'm so sorry, Sir. Our restaurant isn't open yet, please-"
"Miss Lovaata, we've come to pick you up," one of the burly men said, causing Kalea to frown in confusion.
"Who are ... you?"
"Boss Arthur told us to pick up Miss. 'Bring Kalea when she's done with that rotten restaurant,' that's what the boss said."
"Wh-what?! What do you mean by rotten restaurant? Are you messing with me?!" said John as he grabbed the burly man's shirt collar.
"This is your hospital bill. The boss apologizes for beating you unconscious," the man said as he handed John a suitcase of money. "He's sorry for doing that."
John laughed slyly as he took the briefcase roughly. He was amazed to see that it was full of money. "This is how a jerk should be, I accept his apology."
"Thank you. Boss Arthur is indeed very sorry. But more sorry that it didn't cost you your life," the man continued, making John angry again. He slammed the suitcase.
"Are you playing with me?!" John screamed, but his guts shrank as the gazes of the two burly men became sharper and more serious than before.
"We're not averse to making a scene here. Is it okay if your body is crushed?" asked one of the men in a heavy, intimidating voice. John moved back as he laughed, hiding his fear.
"I'll call the police if you do! You've been making a scene from the start!" retorted John, his tone beginning to tremble.
"Let's go, Miss," the two men invited her to leave. Kalea looked hesitant, especially since the other employees were still clueless about what had happened. She didn't want John to live casually as if nothing had happened. Kalea also didn't want any more victims like her.
"The boss said he would take action against that man." whispered one of Arthur's subordinates, as if knowing Kalea's anxiety.
Kalea nodded, perhaps for now it was better to leave. There was no end to the arguments with John, the man was no longer using his common sense.
"Where are you going?! You're not done here yet! Kalea! You whore!"
The girl kept walking away from the restaurant. Don't ask her how she felt, it was mixed. She only prayed that her friends would be okay there. After all, they had been so good to her.
Kalea waited in front of the black car, waiting for one of the burly men to call someone. Kalea guessed it was Arthur.
"Miss, this is the boss. The boss wants to talk to you."
Kalea unhesitatingly accepted the cell phone. "Hello?"
[Hi, Baby. How's your resign party going? I'm so sorry I couldn't make it]
Kalea snorted in annoyance. "As if my resignation was a festive and honorable occasion," she retorted. She could hear crisp laughter from the other side.
[The restaurant will be closing soon. You take it easy]
"Huh? What are you doing? What about the other workers?"
[They'll get a better place to work. I've asked some of my acquaintances in the hospitality and restaurant business to accept your friends]
Kalea was speechless. Arthur was truly a man who seemed to be able to do anything to destroy someone.
[He really did the wrong thing by preying on you. There have been many victims. And his mistake is even more fatal because he touched my sugar baby]
