Chapter 47 - Chapter Forty - Seven

Mira walked back from giving Vilen dinner, she figured today she'd meet Cyro to surprise him with some fish. She quietly walked humming to the sound of the singing below her. The Pythonesses area was the highest up, which made sense with how things seemed to work with the beasts. She was able to calm Cyro down earlier and do to her activities with Indigo she knew she wouldn't be in the mood tonight. She planned to make that up to Cyro though. She closed her eyes only for a second to calm her nerves from the memory, but she suddenly felt her foot fall out beneath her. Her eyes shot open as she gasped, sending the fish flying. Just as her belly was about to make contact with the bridge, strong furry hands wrapped around her, her face falling into a hard belly full of brown fur. She allowed the stranger to help her as she found her footing and stood up. Her eyes trailed up the tall slender torso, to the ruffle of thicker fur around a slender neck, to the handsomely adorable face of a bat. His ears were rather big but they looked rather adorable on him. He was tall, and his wings were tucked nicely behind him. His eyes though were like honey and as the sunset moved down the light in them made them look like deep honey pools. She didn't know how long she had been staring, but then she noticed his he head tilt to the side with a small smile. She immediately backed up front him.

"I'm so sorry!" She apologized so quickly flustered from the whole encounter. "I just never seen you up close before!"

"So you do know it was me carrying you." He seemed so calm and composed, she wouldn't be surprised if he hadn't been fazed in the slightest. "Honestly I'll admit I too was staring out of curiosity." He stepped closer to her; she looked behind him to where Cyro should be.

"Well, you see I was just on my way to deliver…" Her voice trailed off as she looked at her hands. The fish was gone, probably fell all the way to the ground.

"Dinner, I'm guessing. For Cyro?" She looked up as he spoke. He made a rather cute thinking face, even placed his hand under his muzzle.

"Yes." She tried to stifle a grin. He smiled back seeming pleased with her reaction.

"I'm off to look for other survivors that may have escaped and got left behind." He took her hand placing it in between both of his hands. "I was hoping to see you to ask if there's anything I may get for you."

"Oh, uh, thank you but unless you can find some chocolate then, there's nothing really." She placed her hand on top of his and began to side step him.

He smile and nodded, releasing her and stretched out his wings as soon as she was clear of him. She watched as he took off into the night sky, for a moment she didn't care about the groundlings screeches below. She felt the familiar hands and claws wrap around her waist and caress her belly. She leaned into him as she looked at the stars and moon, the bat was long gone now. It was the first time they have been able to enjoy the night air in a long time. He took her hand, and they began walking back to their hut. The Groundlings screeches grew louder the further down they went. They bulldozed the reality of everything back to her mind. She really did worry that one day those things will be able to climb up and get them. When they first landed here, she did her best to tell everyone of the lily of the valley in hopes that it could help protect this place. She sighed and wrapped her arms around Cyro's arm and rest her head against it. He didn't say much these days, she figured it had something to do with all those meetings he has been attending. She was a bit curious as to what they were discussing.

"Cyro?" She stopped walking, still holding his arm.

"Yes, Mira." She loved how he said her name, how he looked as if he was tasting a cake every time he said it.

"What do you talk about in the Pythonesses hut?" She tried to hide the excitement that pooling into her abdomen. She was honestly surprised she could still want more.

"Is that really what you want to talk about?" He grinned at her as he backed her against the wood rail of the path.

Both hands resting on each side of her. It had been a long time since he came onto her like this. Whatever he was doing had put a lot on his shoulders, and he'd rather talk about his childhood than it. Shoving down her sudden need, she smiled and nodded.

"All right," he sighed. He obviously didn't want to speak about it. He moved away from her looking out into the trees, faint lights shine out among them.

"Is it really that bad?" She suddenly felt nervous about what it could be.

"No, it more about my tribe and Alzie." He shoulders slumped as if a huge weight was placed on them. "With him gone there's no one to lead my tribe, the Pythoness seems to think I would be best to fill that role."

She understood better now. Cyro has never wanted to lead his tribe, preferred to stay away from them as much as he could. Now they were asking him to be in the center of it. She placed her hand on his arm as a way to comfort him. He told her how Heili insisted on her leading since she was his mate, and why Cyro couldn't lead. When that fail, Heili then tried to convince the Pythoness to allow them to be mates. Even if Cyro objected to it. Cyro insisted that Alzie had removed him from the tribe in a squabble between them. But that only made them surer he could do it, seeing as they saw Indigo and her as part of a small tribe now. After all they were all mates and if the mate didn't have a tribe, by default neither would the others. Cyro went on to tell her that he then tried to find a way to establish them three as a new tribe instead. However, the Pythoness wouldn't have it because she didn't see how it would be any different. When he was finished talking the trees had gone to complete darkness. And the only sound came from the bats and groundlings below.

"Perhaps if you told him that they would never except you." She tried her best to comfort him. Cyro had always been treated differently.

"No, they would just tell me to make them." He moved and wrapped her into a hug, resting his chin on her head.

"Well, then-," before she could finish he quickly moved her behind the tree base and placed his hand over her mouth.

She sat quietly knowing he must have heard something or someone. She tried to concentrate but it was a while before she heard anyone. Slowly two male voices whispering began to approach their direction.

"I can't believe you allowed them to escape!" The first male voice was hushed and a little on the high-pitched side.

"What was I supposed to do? The Pythoness was with them!" The second voice sounded like it came from a younger male.

"Why was the Pythoness even there?" The first male seemed to become agitated. "I thought I told you to intercept all her letters!"

"I did, but then…" The younger one's voice trailed off; she waited straining to hear them.

"But then what!" He almost yelled it. The sound of a thud hitting the opposite side of the tree made her jump. If Cyro hadn't been holding her, she was sure to have drawn their attention.

"Your daughter saw me with the letter…" You could tell whoever the younger male was, that he feared this other male. "I had no choice!"

The first male groaned, and it got quiet again. They didn't hear his voice again till he dismissed the younger male. She only got a glimpse of a darker shadow moving into the trees, not on the path. She knew it must be some type of bird beast, who most likely was listening to his chiefs' orders. She listened as footsteps grew closer to them Cyro silently pulled her into his arms and move around the tree doing his best to keep hidden. The whole situation was bizarre in itself. From what Cyro told her, groundlings did their own thing and even killed other beasts. So it didn't make since on what the two males had been discussing.
