Artemis P.O.V
I stared at the trees as they zoomed pass me. We have been driving for over an hour now and my patience is starting to run thin. "Where are we even going?" I asked annoyed.
"Don't worry we'll be there soon." Elijah simply said. I scowled.
"Don't worry we'll be there soon. I asked where we're going. Not how long until we get there." I said with sass. He rolled his eyes.
"Will you just be patient?" He said annoyed.
"No. We have been driving for over an hour and I need to pee and all I'm seeing are miles and miles or trees." I said also annoyed. He stopped the car at the side of the road.
"Go." He said. I looked at him weirdly.
"Go where?" I asked.
"Go pee." He said motioning towards the trees. I looked at him like he was crazy.
"What?" He asked. "You said you need to pee so go pee."
"Fine!" I said getting out the car slamming the door.
"My damn car!" I heard him yell.
After doing my business in the bushes I went back to the car to see Elijah texting on his phone. When he noticed me he put his phone away and started driving again.
"So are you telling me where were going?" I asked. He ignored me. "Fine!" I huffed.
After passing nothing but trees for another hour, my eyes shutting. Deciding to sleep the rest of the way I leaned my head against the window, watching trees pass until I fell asleep.
I woke up to Elijah shaking me awake. "What?" I asked upset that he woke me up.
"We're here." He said. I looked around and saw nothing but trees going on forever. No houses. No people. Just trees.
"We're here? There is nothing but trees here for miles and you're saying we're here? You're making this look like I'm in some scary movie where you kill me, chop up my body and scatter it all over the place." I ranted.
He started driving again when suddenly a village appeared out of nowhere. Then I remembered that witches use cloaking veils to protect their covens.
"We're here." Elijah repeated. I glared at him but didn't answer.
We drove up to a house with a dark haired lady watering her garden. When she saw us she immediately came to greet us.
"Alpha Elijah, it's so nice to see you again. And who might this lovely lady be?" She asked giving Elijah a hug before turning to me.
"This is my mate, Artemis. And how many times must I tell you to just call me Elijah, Carol." He said to the woman.
"It's so nice to meet you Artemis." The woman, Carol said hugging me.
"So what brings you two to Spellbrook?" Carol asked as soon as we went in the house.
"We think Artemis might be possessed by something." Elijah said. They talked as if I wasn't there.
"I'm right here." I reminded them.
"Possessed? It's gonna take a few hours to prepare a communication spell but I don't have a few hours." Carol said.
"Well we can ask Aitne to help us." Elijah suggested. The woman scowled at the name but quickly hid it.
"She's in her room." Carol simply said. "Well I have to go before more work piles up on me and it was nice meeting you Artemis."
When Carol left I turned to Elijah. "Who's Aitne?" I asked.
"She's Carol's daughter." He said.
"Her daughter? Well why does she seem to hate her?" I asked. Elijah shrugged.
"I don't know." He said walking up the stairs of the house. He knocked on a door that was later opened by a dark haired girl that was around my age.
"Elijah, it's been a while. What brings you to Spellbrook? And who is this?" The girl asked turning to me.
"This is Artemis my mate." When he said that the girl gasped and hugged me.
"It's so nice to meet you Artemis. I'm Aitne." She said smiling.
"It's nice to meet you too Aitne." I said hugging her back. She brought me into her room then locked the door in Elijah's face.
"Go away. I need to get to know my new friend." She said to him through the door. We stayed silent as I heard footsteps retreating.
"Is he gone?" She asked.
"Yeah." I said.
"Ask me a question. Anything. I don't mind." She said after a moment of silence.
"Why does your mom seem to hate you so much?" I asked. Aitne's face fell.
"Sorry you don't have to answer that. It's not my place to ask." I said quickly.
"It's ok." She said. "Three years ago I got my destiny mark. My whole family was born under the moon mark so as the daughter of the igétis the same was expected of me. But when my mark came it was the sun mark. And now everyone hates me because everyone in this coven was born as healers and I'm the only one born as a destroyer."
"That's stupid!" I said outraged. "Your own mother hates you because they think you're gonna destroy everything?"
"It's ok. I don't blame them." She said. "What about you? Do you have any siblings?" She asked changing the subject.
"She's dead." I said looking at the floor.
"I'm sorry to hear that." Aitne said.
"What about your parents?" She asked.
"Also dead." I said tears welling up in my eyes as I remember feeling that pain of their death.
"A pack atleast?" She asked again.
"Destroyed by the Mysticis." I answered. At the mention of them she looked shocked.
"What? That can't be possible. The last of them was killed centuries ago." Aitne said. "Does mother know of this?" She asked.
"No. We never mentioned it to her." I said.
"Well why else are you here?" She asked.
"There's something else." I said.
"What is it?" She asked.
"I might be possessed by something. Now that I say it out loud I sound crazy." I said chuckling a little.
"Possessed? Someone hasn't been possessed in years. Come with me so I can prepare a communication spell." Aitne said. She brings my into a room filled with spell books, potions and weird looking rocks and sand.
"So did someone choose you as their mate yet?" I asked while she moved around the room preparing for the spell.
"Yes." Aitne said sadly. Male witches chose who that want as their mate and the female has to agree whether they want to or not. Some witches eventually learn to love their mates while others either kill them or spend the rest of their lives hating their mates.
"I thought once witches get chosen they have to go live with each other." I said.
"They do but I have to stay with my mom because he's away at another coven right now." She said.
"Who do you prefer staying with? Your mom or your mate?" I asked.
"My mom I think." Aitne said with a sigh.
"My mate was born with the sun mark and he's the igétis of Ílios valley. His coven lives up to their mark." Aitne said before I could ask.
"I need a strand of your hair." She said. Before I could answer, she walked up to me and yanked a strand of hair out of my head.
"Sit there." She ordered. I sat in a circle of weird looking rocks. She walked away for a while then came back with a small pouch in her hand.
"Deíxte ton eaftó sas pou katoikeí se aftón ton oikodespóti." Aitne chanted while sprinkling the sand from the bag around me. I screamed as it felt like my head was being ripped in half. I heard the door slam open as someone ran into the room.
"What are you doing to her?!?" The person who by the sounds of it was Elijah yelled at Aitne.
"Don't disturb her or she might become violent." Aitne said calmly. " Relax and let her in Artemis." Aitne said to me. I tried taking her word for it and relaxed. I felt the ache in my head smooth as I blacked out.
