CHAPTER NINETY NINE
Both Yanyan and Feifei looked at the woman who is almost on her knees, panting.
"Something?" Feifei asked.
"There was an accident at the Crusher's Building! Someone fell from the beam!"
Huh? Why climb the beam?
Feifei was confused but still ran towards the Crusher's Building.
When Feifei and Yanyan arrived, a crowd was already gathered at the spot where the accident happened.
"Please disperse!" Feifei ordered in a loud voice. "Move away! Move! Move!"
The people who were there to watch and gossip were frightened to jump. They unconsciously gave way to Feifei and Yanyan.
As Feifei walked closer to the scene where the accident happened, he saw three guards about to carry the victim.
Feifei was scared to shout!
"Don't move him!"
The guards were scared by Feifei's shout. They stumbled and bumped over each other in surprise.
Feifei immediately knelt before the victim.
"Get soap, a lot of warm water and a lot of cloths!" Feifei barked.
Then he looked down at the victim.
The man was unconscious. He checked for the man's pulse while observing the rise and fall of the man's chest.
Feifei frowned then looked at the man's bloodied face.
Weird pulse.
To stop the bleeding, Feifei pressed on the acupressure point for awhile.
"Call the doctor here!" Feifei ordered.
If he was any later, these guards would really carry the injured man to the infirmary! What if the victim's back bones were broken from the fall?! Mindlessly carrying the victim could make matters worse!
"Yes, Miss Chu." A middle aged guard answered then looked at the young guard beside him.
Then the young guard ran to get the doctor.
They were planning to carry the victim to the clinic. But, Miss Chu arrived and ordered otherwise.
Well, Miss Chu is also one of the superiors. The guard thought.
"Has the Head Chief been informed already about this accident? How about the Chief of this Division?" Feifei continued to ask.
While asking, he looked at the beam and then at the wheelbarrow that has blood on it.
"Yes, Miss Chu. Someone already went to inform the Head Chief and the Chief of the Crusher's Division. You were just the first one to arrive." A guard reported right away.
Feifei nodded.
"How did he fall?"
"He volunteered to climb the beam and check on the tangled ropes. When he was done untangling the rope, he stood and slipped. He then fell and hit his head on the wheelbarrow over there." The Crusher's Supervisor replied while pointing at the beam above then at the bloody wheelbarrow.
Tangled rope? Feifei frowned.
Something's wrong here. He just can't put his finger on it. Feifei mused.
"Yanyan, sit here. Put the man on your lap. Hold the man's head and neck facing sideways."
The gaping wound on the man's cheek is facing Feifei. And its quite a long cut running from the corner of his right eye to his cheek down to his neck.
This one needs stitches. Feifei thought.
Feifei carefully moved the victim's mouth facing downwards, his chin away from the throat.
Seeing Feifei's series of actions, the people looked at him strangely.
"You said not to move him. Why did you move him then?" A man wearing an Imperial Guard uniform asked.
"When his head is placed in this position, the tongue falls away from the back of the mouth."
"Although he cannot swallow his tongue, the tongue can fall across the throat and block his air. If his tongue blocks his throat, he won't have air to breathe, would he?"
~oh~ The spectators were astonished by Feifei's knowledge!
"The mouth is downward so that saliva or any fluid can drain away from the mouth."
"The chin is well away from the throat to keep his air passage open." Feifei continued to explain.
While explaining, he checked for other wounds on the victim's body and noticed the bloodied chest.
The spectators gave Feifei admiring looks!
Miss Chu's explanation is clear and very reasonable.
But when they all saw Feifei's calm and skillful actions, the spectators were all shocked!
Has she been practicing for a long period of time? Her actions are decisive and fast! Better than some experienced doctors!
"Miss Chu is the Assistant Chief of Transportation, isn't she? Does she know how to cure too?" One spectator whispered to the one beside him.
"But....Miss Chu is still too young and tender to know Medicine. Aren't all doctors of advanced years?" The person answered in doubt.
"Miss Chu, are you also a doctor?" A military man asked.
Feifei did not answer.
"Miss Chu, here are the warm water and cloths you requested. The cloths are all clean." A woman said with her face flushed from her hurried walk.
Feifei looked up as she saw two men from the canteen staff carrying basins of water.
These men were followed by a tall, thin woman who carried the soap and the cloths.
Feifei smiled at them then pointed at the thin woman.
"Wash your hands with soap and water. When your hands are clean, please cleanse the man's wound for any dirt and debris. Then apply direct pressure on the wound with the cloth."
The woman's face turned pale with fright! She was shaking like a leaf when she heard Feifei's commands!
"Miss...Miss Chu...I don't.." The woman stuttered. She frantically waved her hands in refusal while slowly moving backwards.
Feifei raised his brows at the timid woman.
He sighed as he washed his hands with soap and water then personally cleaned the man's gaping wound.
He gently pressed on the gaping skin together as he cleaned first the outer edges of the wound.
The wound on the cheek is quite deep and the edges are gaping open. Seems like the brunt of the fall was centered on the cheek.
Fortunately, the wound on the neck is only superficial and the cut near his eyes is also not that deep.
Then he took the debris that was lodged in between the gaping skin.
"Give me the cloth." Feifei asked.
With a thick cloth in hand, he then applied direct pressure on the man's wound.
The spectators was once again shocked!
Miss Chu's confident and well trained movements loudly speaks of her familiarity in treating injuries!
She is also very adept in cleansing the wounds! Her hands were quick and nimble!
The spectators were looking at each other seeing their shock in each other's faces.
Could someone as young as Miss Chu be proficient in Medicine as well as Mine operations?!
Could there really be someone who possess an ethereal beauty and be a genius too??!
The spectators all looked at Feifei with complicated eyes.
Isn't this young woman clearly bullying them?!!
"Someone, come! Wash your hands with soap and water! I need you to press on the wound!"
A military man immediately came forward and washed his hands clean. Then he replaced Feifei in pressing the victim's gash.
Feifei smiled at the military man in thanks and opened the victim's shirt.
The women gasped in surprise at Feifei's boldness.
Feifei did not notice the strange expressions on the women's faces. All he saw was the blood and red marks on the man's chest.
Feifei rubbed his hands over the man's chest. He felt a crack. So he moved his finger on the injured area and pressed there. When he indeed heard a crack, he took note of the exact location of the crack.
He also checked on the man's back bones for any dislocation. Fortunately, its just a broken rib.
Feifei was about to say something when the military man took off the bloodied cloth from the man's face.
"Don't take the cloth off. Just put more cloth on top of it and continue to apply pressure. If blood seep through the second cloth, remove the second cloth only and apply a new one. Although, I don't think you'll be needing a third cloth." Feifei smiled at the military man.
When Feifei was about to closely examine the cut on the victim's neck, the doctor came in panting.
"Where is the man?"
"Doctor Su is here!" One spectator shouted.
Feifei stood up and looked over at the elderly man they call Doctor Su.
Doctor Su also looked at Feifei, irritability written on his face. Then looked at the bloodied unconscious man on the floor.
Seeing a man pressing the wound on the victim's face and another woman holding the victim's head sideways, he was surprised that he was speechless for a moment.
"Do we have another doctor here?" Doctor Su asked in confusion.
All the spectators looked at Feifei in unison. Doctor Su looked at the spectators looking at Feifei.
Feifei cleared his throat.
"Doctor Su, this man has no other injuries or broken bones aside from his right rib and the wound on his face and neck."
"How can you be sure? Are you a doctor?!" Doctor Su immediately criticized Feifei.
This young woman actually has the guts to summon him instead of just sending the injured man over to the infirmary! The doctor is fuming mad!
"You can check for yourself or you can ask him. He will be awake in a moment anyway." Feifei shrugged his shoulders.
"How do you know he would be awake in a moment?! Are you a worm in his stomach?!" The doctor ridiculed Feifei again.
Feifei raised his brow at Doctor Su.
This is the first time he met the doctor. Why is this doctor against him? Feifei wondered.
But before Feifei could reply, the man moaned in pain and was really awake!
All the spectators looked at Feifei in amazement.
"Miss Chu is right! The man indeed woke up!" A spectator shouted in shock.
Doctor Su choked in anger and humiliation.
"If you're all that great, why don't you treat this man then!" Doctor Su spat and walked away in resentment.
