Chapter 2 - Impulse.

1/12/2023

Finally... I'm finally out of prison.

[After 1 year, notorious serial killer has been released from prison]

[the world's shortest life sentence]

Such headings were on the front pages of every newspaper in the country, constantly out shining the celebrity's and their latest feuds, which were becoming more of a gag than a federal offense.

After the first few months of his imprisonment, the topic of his incredibly low sentence had started to cool down. But after his incredibly early release, people started talking about it again.

"I'm probably going to be some jobless and homeless beggar in a few years." said Joseph as he gave a deep sigh.

With all the talk shows and radio show hosts trying to interview him, he thought it'd be fine if he wrote an autobiography or did a few paid interviews for the newspapers, TV stations and radio shows, though he knew the money from that would barely last him a few months.

While making his way through the sea of reporters and bystanders, he felt a draft near stomach. Not a draft... it wasn't cold... it was hot...

He looked down and saw a huge cut the size of his hand.

He started panicking and looking around to see who did it. He saw a woman a few feet away from him. Her entire body was shaking even though she was wrapped tightly in a fur coat. He quickly covered the cut with his hand, which was the size of his entire hand, and he moved over to the woman.

Not knowing whether she did it, he felt that if he was going down, he would try and bring someone else down with him. Even if that person wasn't the one who did it.

He pushed against the crowed an attempt to get over to her, but he just ended up making his cut worse. Eventually, he did get over the woman, but now, his cut had ripped apart and had became the size of his fore arm.

Trying to ignore the pain, he pushed her as hard as he could, and she fell to the ground after yelping and dropping a blood stained glass shard.

Pushing her had drawn a crowd around us, I ignored it and took the bloody glass from the frozen sidewalk.

She cried out. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to stab you, I swear! You looked like someone I wanted dead! Please forgive me!"

That was all the confirmation I needed to know what to do next.

To which I replied coldly, "late. Die."

~flashback~

"hey Joseph. Are you always alone because you want to be alone?"

Oh. That girl whose name I forgot...

Well... I mean... I guess it was optional at first, but now it isn't.

But...

"at least you can think." about how I feel.

Wait what..?

Did I just... my God I sound so rude! I'm so sorry girl whose name starts with an 'm'! I swear I'll try to remember your name from now on!

Not that I'll ever have the guts to say this to your face!

~flashback end~

I tried to jab the shard as deep into her stomach as could, but she blocked my jab with her hand. Though her organs hadn't been ripped apart as I had planned, the glass shard had penetrated through her hand.

I pulled the shard out of her hand and tried to stab her again. I wondered why nobody was interfering, but I guess no one would really want to get in between a crazed psycho and his victim.

This time, I was lucky enough to be able to stab her around where the intestines are. Even if I die, "you'll be coming with me."

"so let's go to the depths of hell together, random lady."

The woman who had stabbed him was lying on the ground next to him. He looked at her and pulled the glass shard out of her stomach.

Contradictory to what the crowd expected, he stabbed his own throat.

~flashback~

"do you know what the scariest thing in the world is?" asked my teacher.

"rape!"

"death!"

"God!"

"what about you, Joseph. What's your answer?"

"pain..."

"seriously?! Pain? That's it?!"

"m-maybe you should think about something worse..?" asked the teacher with a wry smile.

"then, a painful death."

"I guess that works too..?"

"what I mean is. Would any of you want to lie in a cold pool of your own blood for hours waiting for yourself to die? That's what haopens to most unsuccessful suicides by wrist cutting."

I continued, "yet they wake up in a hospital. Alive."

Oh damn! I think I scared them a little bit...

Nah, it's fine. They're big kids. They can handle themselves.

~flashback end~

The man Joseph Smith, died near that street on the date of his release from prison. He was killed by a woman, later identified as Maggie Brown, who was lying dead next to him.
