I hear the doorbell and I go to open it. My feet move soundlessly against the heated floor as I make my way across the floors and I peep through to see the other side.
I see Gigi holding two coffees, waiting patiently, I take a deep breathe, smile for a few seconds and open the door.
"Oh my God, hi," Gigi hugs me with one hand.
"Hey Gigi, I have missed you," I hug her back and I really do miss her. We pull back and she takes a look for the first time.
"You look ..."she doesn't finish the sentence.
"Yeah I know , don't even sugar coat anything with me right now," I joke with her as I close the door.
"I didn't realize that the sickness had you like this," she look at me so sympathetically I feel like breaking down.
"I know, but i am doing so much better. you should have seen me last week," I joke so flawlessly as I move around and lead her to the kitchen. She sets the coffees at the kitchen counter and rests her face on her palm.
"You always told me you're fine, you didn't mention that you had lost weight." She complains clearly worried about me and I try to reassure her as much as I could without making her see through my seaming- less web of lies.
"So how is everything and how is Derrick?' I divert her attention.
She sighs and seems to completely forget she was mad at me for not telling her about me.
"Derrick is amazing," she takes one coffee and d opens it. I have a small trolley of pastries so I gesture to her to help herself.
Gigi and I have been best friends for more than six years. We met in college and from then we have become inseparable and tell each other everything.
Well, not everything nowadays since I haven't been in contact and I can't tell her what's really going on with me.
"He took me to this cute Italian restaurant that is absolutely the best. I am taking you there, you need to taste the food," she lights up at the idea.
"He sounds like he is really into you and he is not taking chances," I tell her smiling.
"You are the one who scored a billionaire girl! That's every girl's dream," She gushes and we both laugh.
"I did. And I have never been this happy in my life. I had to force him out today because you were coming over; he has been with me all through."
God i should win an oscars at the pace i am going with.
"Aw, that just sounds romantic and sweet! I am so jealous and happy for you!"
"Don't be," I answer her and move to put the coffee away. Trevor does not allow me to take coffee.
"Alright, so I came to convince you to go back to work. You know how good you were there, and your career had just started picking up," she is now serious.
"I know, but I can't. Trevor really doesn't believe in me working when he can provide everything I would ever want," I tell her.
"You don't sound like the Hannah I used to know, when you did you change your mind about this, I mean I am completely confused."
I chuckle and tuck my hair behind my ear. "people change, plus, I got the man of my dreams. My whole perspective when he introduced me in his life changed. I am a new Hannah, two point o," I respond, a wide smile plastered on my face.
She sits up and sighs while looking around. "I mean I get where you are coming from," she gestures around and I see what she is trying to say. We literally live on the top of the island, where you can see the ocean from where I am standing.
"I would give you a house tour but that would just be an injustice on our friendship, I will give you the ground tour," I speak as I wear some slides and open the sliding doors that leads outside from the kitchen.
"Oh wow!" Gigi is blown away. From here you can see the city lights from afar on your left and on your right you see the endless blue ocean and hear its waves crashing.
"This is an absolute view."
I agree with her. I spend most of my time here.
"I know you would never come back to work," she turns to look at me, wind whipping her hair behind her. "I just needed to see you," she speaks softly.
I nod and look down because I cannot bring myself to say a single word. I love her so much, I end up hugging her.
"Are you really okay?" she whispers at me and I nod again.
I quickly wipe the tear that had rolled on my face and sniff. We pull apart and she tucks my hair.
"I love you Hannah, and I am happy that you are happy."
"You will make me cry and we both know I am an ugly crier," I joke and we start laughing.
"Oh, I know, I haven't forgotten that for sure," she says and we laugh again this time I genuinely laugh. For a second, I forget everything and just be with my dearest friend.
We watch the sunset together and I pour her some wine too as we do that. She asks me why I am not taking and I tell her I can't interfere with the medication I am on.
I am fearing myself with how good I am when it comes to lying.
"She would love him, he is taking care of you." She speaks softly.
I take a deep breath and exhale. "Yes," I whisper.
"Do you think she watches over you, even when you have no idea, from heaven?"
"I hope so. I miss her so much."
"I think she does. I sometimes feel my dad watching over me so I know your mom is looking and watching you." She hugs me while we sit and watch the sunset.
If she does, does she see what has become of me?
