I head home and get some change of clothes and head to the hospital, despite it being in the middle of the night.
I get there and see that she is still sleeping, so I sit to the chair next to her bed and I find myself staring at her.
"If you are going to look at me, at least make it fun and not look at me like I am dying," she says her thought dry and I sit up. I didn't know she was awake.
"I thought you were asleep," I say as I take the water and help her drink some. She sips on the straw before I put t back on the table.
"What are you doing here? You should be resting," she replies instead.
"I couldn't leave you here alone. And the nurses know I am family so don't try to kick me out," I say and she sighs as she looks at the white ceiling.
"I am thankful. But you look worse than I am," she notes and I wave her off.
We don't talk for a while but I know the obvious unsaid words and questions hang between us.
