Chapter 15 - Call an exorcist, there’s a possessed dying cat

In the classroom, a bunch of kids were split between two sides. They were debating or rather arguing about something completely unrelated to class, this was invited by the two girls who often fight in and out of class.

This fight was verbal but still rather bad, it was worse because they had drawn in their fellow classmates to take stances on the other side, threatening that if they didn't join their side they'd no longer be friends.

The teacher had left momentarily to get some printouts from the printer on the other side of the school, leaving a few minutes for this to take place.

A few of the students who couldn't bear to pick sides instead aligned with the neutral party, they then left the room in a hurry to get a teacher. The people left in the room had a few snickers amongst themselves and called those that left wimps.

The door was shoved open heavily and it slammed against the wall, causing people to worry about the state of the door and wall respectively. The teacher was standing in the doorway with one hand out that evidently shoved the door, she was huffing slightly with a few sheets of paper in her hand.

"Emma and Ren, go to the office after school today." A voice called out in the silence caused by the loud sound the door made when it hit the wall. Her words caused a few people to snap out of their trances, and the leaders on both sides of the argument immediately started arguing against this.

"Miss, how could you say it was us like that?" Asked the girl wearing a flowery dress.

"Yeah miss, what if it wasn't us. You can't just say that without seeing us do anything right." The other girl added she was wearing dark grey overalls over a red striped shirt.

"As if it's anyone but you two. Also, what are you all gawking at? Sit down, and if I hear a peep out of you when I'm back it'll be detention for the lot of you." The woman huffed indignantly.

Everyone quickly sat down and made sure not to say a word, they didn't want to go to detention, especially when on Thursdays, the teacher covering detention was the one that just left. She was always irritable at the end of the day for having to stay late to, as she called it, "babysit a bunch of misbehaving ingrates", and wouldn't let you talk or do anything except homework. Even if you'd already finished your homework she'd fetch you more work to do and honestly, it was equivalent to hell for them.

The bell rang for the final time of the day signalling that it was time for everyone to go home or at least everyone except two young girls who appeared to be somewhat nervous and sweating profusely. They were packing their things away as slowly as humanely possible as though doing this would make their punishment lessen in some way.

When the teachers decided they had taken far too long to pack up, they sent someone to fetch them and bring them to the office. Rather than their punishment being lessened, they seemed to be in a worse position now that the teachers seemed even more annoyed.

They'd finally reached the office after they'd both pondered seriously on whether or not to run, with both of them being unable to decide by the time they reached the door. Staring at the door they realised it was their last chance to turn back, however, when they were about to bolt two delicate hands were placed on their small and fragile shoulders.

"Let's go in shall we?" Asked the teacher known as the "tyrannical ghost". She was called this not only because of her so-called "tyrannical ways" in detention, but also because there was a rumour that had passed around for years about how once she had apparently caught students sneaking into school to steal something. It wasn't known what it was, it was probably the new iPads or something similar.

Anyway, she'd caught them sneaking in by catching them in the act in the classroom, apparently, she'd been sitting in her chair in the dark waiting the whole night. Apparently, one guy fainted at the sight of her, God knows no one's tried to steal anything since then. The scariest part wasn't just that she'd been waiting in the dark, she'd been so silent no one had heard her, seen her or even noticed her until they turned on the lights to be able to better see whatever they were trying to steal.

The girls would've jumped 20 feet or more into the air if the teacher hadn't had her grip on both of them, her grip was strong and seemed unbreakable.

The teacher let go and pushed open the door to let the children in, they walked in at a snail's pace and sat down on the chairs in front of the desk which took up most of the space in the room.

A light cough was heard behind them and they both saw their own mothers respectively. This only made them more anxious, especially the looks on their faces. Their normally smiling faces instead took on frowns and mild looks of disappointment.

When everyone had sat down the teacher began talking.

"Well, we'd emailed you both multiple times. So I'm sure you understand why you're here with your daughters. Am I correct?"

Both mothers answered with words of confirmation and apologies.

"Ren, Emma, do you understand why you're here?"

"Because we fight sometimes?" Replied one of the girls, her black hair swept to the side in a ponytail.

"Sometimes…" the teacher mused to herself, "Well, yes. That's somewhat correct. However, to the heart of the issue." She paused dramatically and looked at the mothers for confirmation on what they'd discussed before the children had arrived.

She continued on to say, "You'll both have to attend study sessions daily, after school and during the holidays."

Both girls looked at each other, then the teacher, then each other again and finally turned to look at their mothers in shock and pleading. They were pleading to not go, most children hate studying, but these two, in particular, despised it.

"Also, you'll be studying together. Until you learn to behave." The teacher added finally, the teacher had noticed their crestfallen faces and wanted to plunge them further into despair. Even if only in a way such as this, the revenge for all the nights she stayed late at school watching them in detention, writing reports about their behaviour, sending emails to their parents informing them of their behaviour and so on was paid back slightly. The teacher let out a deep breath of peace and smiled for the first time in what seemed like days.

She started mumbling to herself in an exasperated tone, "Why did I choose such a shit profession? "It'll be easy," they said, "kids are so cute," they said. Look at me now. In my 40s and what do, I have to show for it? Worked in the same school for almost 19 years and the pay is still bad, the hours are even worse. Grading and all that throughout each holiday and even more to do on weekends. And here I am, getting pissed off over petty fights between a bunch of babies." When she'd finished her mini-rant she let out a laugh. Or what was meant to be a laugh, but sounded more like an evil dying cat calling for an exorcism.

"Miss, but why do we have to study?" Asked one of the girls in a panic.

"Yes, anything but that! I'll stop fighting with her if it's anything else." Added the other hurriedly.

The teacher snapped out of her self-pity and sighed, "Your constant fighting has disrupted the class many times, this resulted in you both failing the recent set of exams."

She took out a few papers and handed them to the girls, the results were pitiful and they both cringed when they received them.

"You won't be able to stop attending until you both maintain good grades and stop fighting. Anyway, with that out of the way, I'm heading home. You're dismissed."

With that, the teacher left the room hurriedly. She was longing to sleep in her bed, it was a Friday afternoon and here she was stuck at school. She rushed to her car and realised she'd forgotten her keys in the office. "You've got to be shitting me."
