Chapter 1 - Aiden

"Aidan you used to love going to grandma's all the time," A brittle looking woman in her late thirties told a teenage boy who had a hard look on his face.

That was when I only had to stay for holidays, he thought hard but he didn't feel the need to correct her.

Her words were like sharp knives digging at his heart. They were been selfish and although he could have said he didn't care, he did care.

Aidan was a seventeen years old he was going to be a senior after the summer break, and he had a lot of things planned out in his head, but all those things were useless now.

He had to leave his friends, his bandmates and everything he has ever known just because his parents decided they could no longer be with each other. And as if getting a divorce was not enough each one wanted to get remarried and now he couldn't stay with either one of them.

He was bringing out his last box of clothing when his mother's delicate hands held on to his.

"Aidan, you know I love you right," her voice was soft but all Aiden did was scoff at her subtle attempt to cajole him.

The woman was hurt by this but she let him go, her shoulder slumped with how sad she was. She had to let him go leave with her parents because she knew it would be a little too hard for him to cope with her new husband's family and she thought he would be happier with her parents but he wouldn't understand although she didn't even try to explain it to him.

Aidan walked over to the passenger seat door and opened it, his head phone hanging from his neck and his bang covering his right eye. He believed the woman who was standing in front of the house he once called his home had made her choice and he was not okay with it, and he was not going to try to act like he was okay with it, and ai he didn't bother to even wave her goodbye as the taxi drove him away from her after he got into the car.

"Going to college for the first time?" the taxi driver asked looking through his mirror at Aidan who raised his eyes to look at the man through the mirror and when their eyes locked he looked away without saying a word and the taxi driver knew he was on of those clients who prefer to have a silent ride so he didn't say anything more and focused on driving him to the airport.

Aidan was mad at everyone, he was mad at his mom, he was furious at his father, and he couldn't help but blame himself for not being eighteen yet so he could get a place to stay on his own.

Now that he has to go live in MENDOCINO, a small town in northern California where his grandparents were staying, he was filled with nothing but rage, however, he managed to keep it bottled inside as he kept a straight face.

He stared out the window at the busy streets of California, and watch as the began leaving behind the cities as they approached the local airport.

He forced him self to bit back the lone tear that threatened to fall down his eyes as they arrived at the airport and decided to throw away everything he ever cared about before boarding the plane.

In his mind, he had a mission one he promised to keep so even though this was tough for him, the plan he had in his mind kept him sane through out the ride.

The Plane ride was short and less stressful, but Aidan was so stressed because he could t stop thinking of how he was going adjust to a life at a farm house, when he had lived his whole life in the middle of the cities of California.

After getting down from the plane, he knew he was going to see either one of his grandparents waiting at the airport to pick him up, and that made him a little embarrassed because he would have loved to take an Uber down to the farm house, but he wonders if they would go that far down into the area where his grandparents were leaving.

"Aidan, son!" Someone yelled from the crowd waving his hand around trying to catch the attention of the young boy who had his hands in the pocket of his slightly ripped off jeans with his head hanging low as he kicks his left foot in the air.

His head raised slowly at the sound of his name and he had a small smile when he saw the old man who looked not less than 70years of age waving at him.

Reluctantly, he pushed his bags that were loaded in the bag carriers and followed his grandfather as he lead him to where an old pickup truck was parked and put his bag in the truck before he got in the car ignoring all what his grandfather was telling him until they drove off the airport.

They git on the road and passed a few towns before getting to the place where his grandfathers farm house is located.

The familiar scent of wood and moist soil and different smells of rotten and fresh fruits filled his nostrils making him a little nostalgic and all he could do was remind himself that he was going to endure this for only a year and he would be out of this town before they know it and that was a promise.
