Chapter 19: Things we have to do

Emily POV

That night, I slept like a baby on my fluffy pillows and expensive king size bed. It was the first time in days I have had a good night rest. I could say it was because I had no fight left in me or maybe because my plan to get rid of Owen's baby was just the pain antidote I needed to live to see another day.

My dream was quiet and peaceful. It was those weird ass dreams where everything was sunshine and rainbows and suddenly, I am seven years old and injured knees were my biggest problem.

Then I felt someone's touch on my forearm, gentle and soft like it was caressing me more than it was shaking me. I recognized the touch.

Of course, I did. I can tell the feel of his hand with my eyes closed.

"Owen" I murmured and opened my eyes.

"I am sorry, your royal highness but King Zuri insist on your presence at the breakfast table"

"You are not Owen" I murmured bluntly to the voice without turning.

"Owen? I am sorry Your royal highness. I do not know of this Owen you are talking about. My name is Desire, I am your lady's maid"

I turned around and sat up taking care to allow my eyes to adjust to the brightest of the room at its own pace. I exhaled and just like that I was exhausted all over again. Then it hit me, did she just call herself my lady's maid?

"Lady's maid? Isn't that like some medieval shit?" I asked, not bothering to make an effort to sound princess-like.

"I guess so but not really. I am the Minister's daughter. My father is Jackson Dumont, prime minister of castaway. I am not really a maid like the name says. I am more of a personal assistant or lady in waiting. My job is to make your transition in to the royal life as smoothly as possible"

I looked at Desire as she talked. She was a pretty blonde haired girl with a slender figure and shoulders that looked like it hadn't experienced a day of difficulty in her life.

I could bet my life that no one had ever raised a hand on her or rejected her. I was the princess but she was living the dream.

"Alright, Desire…let's get one thing straight, I don't like people touching me. Just yell my name and I will open my eyes"

Desire looked fairly confused.

"I didn't touch you. I merely opened the curtains, princess Emily"

Damn it! I had imagined Owen's hand on me just like I had imagined that he cared about me my whole life.

"Your bath is ready and before you ask, it was prepared by actual maids. I am going to pick out an outfit for you"

I ignored Desire and stood up from the bed I was sitting on. I was still in the clothes I arrived in yesterday.

"Where is the dining table or room or whatever it is you call it?" I asked her.

"Just down the hall…Princess, please tell me you are not about to do what I think you are about to do?" Desire had a look about her.

"I need to talk to my brother, excuse me"

Desire came forward, I saw the way she looked at me like if it was possible, she would literally throw herself at the door to prevent me from walking out but I was a werewolf on a mission and the mission was to trick my evil half brother into taking me to Zolcovia under the pretense of meeting my betrothed when my main interest was to get rid of the bastard baby my wuss of a former mate put in me. And if this little pretty Blondie thinks she was going to stop me then I really like to see her try.

I watched as she stepped aside. I placed both of my feet in the white slippers beside my bed and I walked out. I made it to the enormous dining room and met an empty table. It was either I just missed Zuri or the manipulative brother of mine was not there yet.

I stood by the window and I thought of ways my life was going to be considerably worse. Married before twenty to a man I hardly knew was not exactly something to look forward to.

"Good morning, little sister"

His voice was still as smooth as it was yesterday and when I turned around, he still looked every bit as handsome as he did yesterday, just like I am very sure he was still every bit the despicable human being he was yesterday.

"King Zuri" I murmured and looked at him.

"Showing up in yesterday's clothes, are we Emily? Are you trying to rebel against me already?" Zuri pulled out a chair and watched as I made myself comfortable on it.

"I am a teenager. We don't usually do as we are told but I am not trying to rebel or anything. I actually wanted to talk to you about something I am sure you want to talk about"

"My oil pipe" Zuri said and took a seat at the head of the table.

"The crown prince of Zolcovia, yes…If I am to tie my life to him, I want to get the introductions over with if you don't mind" I said with a smile I hoped reached my eyes.

"Wow, I thought I was going to drag you there kicking and screaming but this is a welcome change, sister. I will reach out to the king and maybe have our intention declared to him"

"When?" I asked him. I waited patiently for the answer.

"In two weeks" Zuri murmured.

I felt my heart stopped. To a pregnant unwed teenage werewolf without an actual wolf, two weeks was eternity.

Hot Crap!
