It’s been a few days since Adrian found me trapped in the cave.
He demanded to know how it happened, but I couldn’t tell him. As much as I wanted to get Sheila and Cleo in trouble for what they did to me, I didn’t want to arouse any more hostility from his pack. So, I told him I didn’t know how it happened. I could tell he didn’t believe me, but thankfully, he let it go.
For a brief moment in that embrace with Adrian, I thought maybe we could work things out between us, and I could show him I’m not the enemy, despite what he’s told himself.
Since then, though, he’s been avoiding me as much as he can.
I catch glimpses of him watching me from across the room as I get dressed in the mornings, or even when I’m sitting in the backyard reading my book. But while those moments always make my heart flutter, outside of them, he hasn’t been around.
