Chapter 7 - Rules are there for a reason

"You are right Mr. Lucien. If the huntsman had died due to your actions, then the situation might have been more serious than it is now. But fortunately, you have been let away with a little slap on the wrist" Bruce said as he kept the gun back in his drawer.

Lucien nodded his head in understanding as his eyelids dropped down low while he accepted his new reality.

"And what about my sword?".

"Yes, of course. You see even though we wanted to collect back your sword, they decided to keep it and stated that if you wanted it back, then you would have to come and take it from their hands. We couldn't stop them from doing so because unfortunately, they possess the right to do such a thing after their unfortunate incident".

'I was wrong. Today is really a bad day for me' Lucien thought as he sighed internally "Alright I understand".

Bruce then proceeded to a blue button near a small microphone on his desk.

"Alright, Mr. Lucien. My secretary will be here soon".

Immediately soon after, a slight knock came from the back of the door.

"Come in!" Bruce said already knowing who it was.

"Creak!!"

"You called for me, Mr. Bruce" The secretary Lucien had met outside said as she slightly arranged her eyeglass.

"Yes, I called you Chanel. Because I want you to follow Mr. Lucien to the testing room. There he will hand over his badge and uniform to you. Here is his weapon, you can keep it together with the rest of his things" Bruce said as he handed over the gun that was still wrapped in a piece of white cloth to her.

"And inform the assistant of Mr. Lucien that due to the actions of the huntsman under her management, she will also be punished accordingly".

Lucien immediately winced as soon as he heard those words.

Meanwhile, Chanel looked at Bruce weirdly before looking back at Lucien.

"Didn't you tell him?" Chanel questioned as she looked at Lucien.

But Lucien merely shook his head in response.

"Tell me what?" Bruce asked as he looked at the two with suspicion in his eyes.

"I was going to come and tell you this myself later sir, but the assistant of Mr. Lucien, otherwise known as Miss. Alice has resigned from her position as Mr. Lucien's assistant and decided to apply for another position" Chanel replied.

"That is quite surprising" Bruce said as he massage his head in frustration as he thought about all the paperwork that he will have to take care of.

But thankfully, Chanel was here to do that for him.

'Thank god that my partner is competent' Bruce thought as he looked at Lucien.

"So that means Mr. Lucien is currently without an assistant".

"Yes, sir" Chanel nodded as she responded.

"Today is really not a good day for you Mr. Lucien" Bruce looked at Lucien and said with a little pity in his voice.

Seeing the young man in front of him dropping his head in acceptance of the various strings of bad events in his life, Bruce really did feel pity for him.

And although it wasn't encouraged to have such feelings in the workplace, the kind of work they do was absolutely different when compared to the normal occupations out there.

"If it's okay with you, then how about I offer you a little bit of my help" Bruce said with a smile as he saw Lucien's face gaining a bit of colour in them.

"Really!!" Lucien responded as he looked at the Bruce with his eyes which were immediately rekindled with hope.

"Of course" Bruce nodded his head in confirmation "Although I have no authority in interfering with the rules of the organisation, that still doesn't change the fact that I am the Manager of the Notre Dame branch"

"Especially now that the director is not around, so I will be in charge of making all the necessary decisions. So I might be able to lend you a little hand. But in return, you must do something for me".

Lucien's brows rose as his face immediately turned into a frown.

Although he knew that he was in a desperate situation, that still doesn't mean that he will jump into any request if it provided a way out of his desperate situation.

"If you can't change the rules of the organisation, then what are you going to do that will be of help to me?" Lucien questioned.

"Oh! Going straight to the point, are we? Chanel, how many times have Mr. Lucien changed assistants in the past year?" Bruce asked his secretary.

"Twice sir" Chanel immediately responded.

"So if the resignation of his current assistant is added, how many times would that be?"

"That would be thrice, sir"

"Good. And can you tell me the punishment of a huntsman who has changed 3 different assistants for the past year like that of Mr. Lucien, and also explain why?"

"Ahem… Of course Sir. A huntsman who has had over 3 or more different assistants during the past year, should be closely monitored and immediately put under observation to determine the reasons for such an occurrence"

"And if the investigation carried out concludes that the reasons for such were due to the huntsman incompetence or lack of co-operation, then such huntsman shall be forced to give up his rank and will be placed one rank lower than his current rank"

"If he is an A-ranked huntsman, then he will be immediately demoted to B-rank. If he is a B-ranked huntsman then he will be immediately demoted to C-rank. If he is a C-ranked huntsman then he will immediately be demoted to D-rank. And if is a D-ranked huntsman, then he will be immediately suspended until further notice".

"Doing so is to ensure that the co-operation and trust among huntsman and their assistants do not decrease, as their overall co-operation also determines the progress and future of the organization. And if there is in-discipline or enmity between employees of the organization, then how will it continue to thrive".
