Chapter 10 - Storage room

"This way, Mr. Lucien" Chanel said as she led Lucien through the doors of the elevator.

Pushing the button that was at the bottom, they both watched as the doors began to close shut.

The ride in the elevator had a very quiet and weird atmosphere as Lucien wasn't in his usual mode because of his suspension.

While Chanel who was as cold as ever didn't even try to start a conversation with him.

Well, not that she would have done so anyway as they hardly interacted with each other even if they were in the same branch.

"Ding!!"Ding!!"

The elevator finally came to stop as the two individuals stepped out.

Overlooking the empty room before them which was over 137 Square feet, with two huge metallic doors standing in opposite directions as they faced each other.

"You know, it's been a while since I came down here. So what kind of new experiments is the organization working on?" Lucien said.

"You know that I can't give you that information Mr. Lucien. That information is classified" Chanel replied.

"It's always classified. Why don't you just be direct and tell me that I don't have the necessary authority to access them" Lucien responded with a snarky remark.

Chanel turned around and looked at Lucien with a frown before a thin smile slowly formed on her lips.

"Then Mr. Lucien, you have no authority to access this floor unless you have been granted permission to do so. But seeing as you won't be around for some time, I doubt that you will ever reach the rank where you are qualified to gain such authority"

"And if you are ever found here for whatever reasons without such permission, then be prepared to face the consequences, as I am sure that even the manager can't save you from that".

"If the organization really wants to make its staff to co-exist without any problems, then shouldn't there be more rewards than punishments".

"Punishments are there because there are rules. And I think that you are the only one that thinks like that Mr. Lucien because as much as I can see, you are only looking for a way to avoid your punishment" Chanel shook her head as she arranged her eyeglass.

"Instead what you should be doing is look for a way to rectify your mistakes and avoid such punishments in the future".

"I know. But you can't really blame me, can you? I can't even remember what happened yesterday evening, and also the fact that every single piece of evidence is pointed against me, really makes it hard for me to swallow everything" Lucien said with a sigh.

"I understand how you feel, Mr. Lucien. But since everything is pointed against you, then why didn't you try to remember and find some actual evidence that could be of help to you" Chanel said with her usual straight face.

"You are a huntsman, aren't you? Shouldn't you be as resourceful as Sherlock's homes and find a way to refresh your memory or find clues about what had happened the night before?".

"I didn't know you could give such beautiful words of encouragement Miss Chanel" Lucien responded with a smile.

"Now I know why the manager is always happy when you are around. I would have asked you to be my assistant, but I need to hear what you think about it first".

Listening to this, Chanel's thin smile turned back into a frown as she looked at Lucien with a straight face, straighter than Lucien had ever seen before.

"If that is a proposal, then I will gently decline your offer, Me Lucien. And besides, working for you will look bad on my resume. And even if I was fired by the manager, and was given a chance to work under the numerous huntsman of my choice, you will be at the bottom, Mr. Lucien" Chanel continued saying.

"And the fact that y…"

"I get it. You hope that you will never have to work with me one day. Am I right Miss Chanel" Lucien replied.

"Yes".

"But isn't there another less brutal way you should have said that to me".

"No, I needed to be straightforward with you, I don't want you having any strange thoughts or expectations in the future".

"Alright, besides I was just trying to loosen up the atmosphere. I will be getting suspended in some hours, so I might as well find something to distract me for a little while"

In response to this, Chanel could only nod her head in understanding as she went back to her previous position.

"We will be keeping your properties in this room, Mr. Lucien" Chanel said as she pointed to the other metallic door which had the name storage toom written on it.

"I thought that this is a testing room, how are you sure that my things going will be safe here?" Lucien replied as he looked at the door with some doubt.

"Yes, you aren't wrong Mr. Lucien. This floor is called the testing room because it is where the various experiments, tests, and projects that are overseen by our branch takes place"

"And if we were to fail at any of them, then the other door is where those failed experiments are stored, together with various copies of documents which if released could potentially threaten the exposure of our organization. So you can say that if there is an experiment that we failed at then it's in there" Chanel responded.

"But isn't that a bad thing keeping all those things in one place? Besides, since none of them is valuable to the organization, why don't they burn it all, or find a way to destroy it?".

"That's the problem Mr. Lucien, but you see, It's the opposite because we have spent so much money on these things. So just burning them up would be a waste. Even though they are failed experiments, the funds that were used to make them possible isn't something that the organization can just ignore".
