And that would cause some unnecessary commotion, something which he wasn't too keen on starting once they realize that he was lying.
Although he might be thinking too much about the situation, after looking at various wealthy and high ranking individuals in this room, he knew that the consequences would be dreadful if he allowed this woman to go on with her questioning.
"Sigh!! The reason that you won't remember who I am, is because I am not supposed to be here" Lucien responded.
"W-What?? So I was right! I knew that there was something wrong with you" The woman said as her eyes widened in surprise, not expecting Lucien to calmly admit the truth to her after she had threatened him.
The woman soon regained her emotions as she looked at Lucien saying.
"Well, it's good that you at least admitted it and not lie by giving me a false identity. Because I wasn't joking when I said that I know the names of everyone in this room"
"At most, if you were caught lying, my dad would have made sure that you spent a few weeks in jail if he found out that a stranger had snuck into my party" She added.
"Your party!" Lucien said as his eyebrows rose a little.
"Yes, my party. This is my birthday party. I am the celebrant" The woman said as she pointed a finger at herself.
Although it did look as though she was bragging, Lucien couldn't blame her.
Compared to him who had skipped breakfast and lunch because of some financial shortcomings, this woman was certainly swimming in loads of cash. So her bragging was also something he would do if he was in her shoes.
After all, bringing all these respectful individuals together in one of the most luxurious hotels in Paris, was undoubtedly something to brag about.
"And now that we have affirmed the truth, My name is Charlotte Durand. Can you tell me yours?" She added with a smile on her face as she stretched her hand forward.
"My name is Joseph" Lucien responded as he grabbed the hand in a firm handshake.
"Just Joseph.."
"Yes, just Joseph".
"Hmm!! I guessed that you weren't from around here. Although it does make sense because you don't look like a Frenchman. So where are you from mister Joseph?" The woman said as she nodded her head in response.
"I am from the U.S.?" Lucien replied as this wasn't the first time that he had heard such words.
Although it won't be the last either.
"Where from the U.S? And please refer to me with my name".
"Alright" Lucien nodded his head and continued "From Chicago. Although I am not sure that you will be familiar with where exactly".
"No worries, I understand. Although I don't know much about the U.S, I do plan on visiting it someday. So I have done some research myself and have some idea about a city called Chicago".
"So what brings you to Paris?" Charlotte asked with curiosity in her eyes.
Although she had some family members who were based abroad, that didn't mean that they were obliged to tell her about their adventures outside the country.
At most, the only few times they spoke were just for mere formalities.
And although it wasn't all her relatives that were like that, it didn't matter much at the moment.
Because Lucien looked and spoke like someone who had just stepped foot into France recently. So listening to his stories from his perspective as a native of the U.S. would surely be different.
Although she did feel like there was something about him that she couldn't place her fingers on.
But she immediately moved it to the back of her mind after thinking that it was just something that had to do with him being a foreigner. So she didn't dwell on it that much.
"Well, umm…I came here for some business-related issues. I had only arrived yesterday and decided to rest for the day before my meeting starts"
"But strangely enough, you can imagine my surprise when I found out that where my meeting was supposed to take place had suddenly turned into a birthday party" Lucien said as he breathed out with a dramatic sigh.
"That isn't right. As far as I know, any room that has been booked for an event in the Starshine hotel would also have a ticket depending on the maximum capabilities of the room"
"So there is no way that they can afford to make a mistake as doing so wouldn't be good for their business after considering the type of people they work with" Charlotte said as she looked at Lucien in confusion.
"Can I see your ticket, Mr Joseph?"
"Sure, here it is" Lucien responded as he brought out the ticket he had used to get in here.
"Hmm!! This is our ticket, how did it get into your hands? Because you certainly didn't get this ticket from us" Charlotte said as her face scrunched up into a frown as she thought about how the organizers in Starshine hotel could have made such a mistake.
What if the one that had gotten this ticket wasn't a foreigner like Mr Joseph who didn't know his way around?
And instead, it was someone else who was up to go good that had received them. Didn't that mean that her birthday party would have been in ruins by now?
And although she didn't know if this man that called himself Joseph was a bad person or not, it didn't matter, because he isn't supposed to be here anyway and they had only met by chance because of some lousy mistake.
So the least she could do to help him is to make sure he finds his way to the right room. And in the meantime ask him to tell her some of his stories in exchange for her help.
And besides, if he was indeed a bad person and did anything bad to her, there is no way that he would leave this hotel alive. And that was something she was sure of.
"Alright let's go"
