I'm actually excited for my next class. I love drawing and painting. As I walk into the classroom it goes quiet. As I look around I notice most of the kids here were in my other two classes. Great, so they all know about me. One girl with long auburn hair motions me over. "You can sit by me." She says. I don't argue and go over to her table to take a seat. "Thanks, I'm Emmie." She smiles and holds out her hand. "I'm Aubrey. So what kind of art do you do?" She seems friendly and I'm relieved to find another nice person. That makes two, three of I count Granduer. I don't think I'll count him though. "I do sketching and painting." I reply. Aubrey tilts her head before glancing at the others at the table. They all look confused. "No, I mean what's your art." Aubrey repeats. I stare at her, not comprehending what she's getting at. "I sketch and paint. What other arts do you mean?" I ask, completely befuddled. Aubrey let's a out an awkward fake laugh. "You're joking right? I mean like, do you do fire or plants? Maybe you're more of a water person. What's your art." What is this chick talking about?! Do they do art with fire and plants? I mean, watercolors I get. That would be using water. I guess that's what she meant. "I'm more of a water person myself. I can't do fire or plants. Can any of you?" Aubrey's face relaxes and she smiles again. "I'm actually a plant, Beanne is a fire so she can show you that." I nod enthusiastically, ya that would be awesome. Beanne is a girl with light brown hair and blue eyes. She considers me before nodding. "Ya, I'll show you." She does some weird hand stretch, at least that's what it looks like. Then she gets a lighter from someone where. It looks like her fingertip is actually on fire. Then I look closely and see that her fingertip is on fire! What in the world?! This is definitely a joke. "Wow, Beanne! Where did you learn that magic trick?" I ask her with a laugh. She looks at me coldly, "I don't practice magic. I practice arts." Wait, huh? What does that mean? Aubrey tenses at my side. "You shouldn't refer to anyone's ability's as magic. It's a degrading term and it won't get you any friends. Here, I'll show you my art." She then proceeds to somehow make a flower grow from her desk. "Holy crow!" I exclaim on impulse. Do we learn how to magic tricks in this class? That would be awesome. Not to mention, the teacher most be great if Aubrey and Beanne are this good. I look excitedly to the others. "Can you show me your ma- I mean art?" The other girls nod and two demonstrate their fire tricks. When I look at the last girl she shrugs, "My art is water, same as you." She sounds a little sad. "No, it's fine, I totally want to see yours!" She blushes a little and shrugs. "Ok, whatever." She then makes another weird hand stretch like the others before a stream of water flows from her fingers. It curls and takes the shape of a flower. It then disappears back into the girls fingers. "That was awesome! I definitely want to learn how to do that!" I tell her. Who knew I'd get such a cool class? Aubrey looks back at me, "So what about you?" She asks. I snap out of my thoughts and look at her. "Oh, I though you meant watercolor. I don't know how to any of this. I'm totally willing to learn though!" As if the whole class was listening to our conversation, they fall silent along with my table. My table is looking at me, when I look around I see the class is looking at the back. I twist to see a scary man with gold eyes like a cat's staring at me. "Human." He whispers. A collective gasp sounds throughout the room. The man stalks toward me threateningly. "Are you a hunter human?" The man hisses. I swear on my favorite pair of fuzzy socks that a snake tongue slipped out. I can't move as the man draws closer. I'm terrified! "N-no. I'm not a hunter. I've never even taken the test to get a tag." I tell him quickly. His snake tongue slips out as he says, "Aubrey, call the principal down." Aubrey leaps out of her seat and sends me a terrified glance. In fact, the whole class is looking at me with terrified expressions. The man is really scaring me, so are all the looks I'm getting. What in the heck is going on?! Aubrey speaks softly to someone on a phone before the door bursts open. "Liviticus, I was told we had a hunter on campus. Where are they?" The man that burst in is terrifying. He's shredded, so much so that his suit doesn't hide his bulging six pack. Gross, yet impressive. The snake guy points at me, "There she is. Only a weakling, must have been sent as a spy." He scoffs, "As if we wouldn't scent her out." The man sees me and he immediately relaxes. "Oh, Emmie is part of the new program. Her mother was Lily Sparrow." The snake man's eye widen as he looks back at me. "A new trial run?!" He asks incredulously. The suit guy nods his head. At this point I'm more irritated than confused. "What does my Mom have to do with this?" I ask. Snake guy turns back to me. "Do you have the same blood as your mother?" He asks. That's not a weird question at all. We do have the same blood disease if that's what he's asking. Suit guy steps up to me and lays a hand on my head. His eyes roll back and he breathes in. "Yes, she is a honey blood." The class gasps again. At this point I'm sorta freaking out. I'm also wondering if I got chosen to be in one of those movies. You know, where they make someone believe something before revealing it was all a prank. "Please don't touch me." I say instead of yelling at the suit guy. I despise being touched without giving consent. In fact, the few handshakes I've given today are cutting it pretty close to my limit. The man removes his hand and I can't help but glare a little. Snake guy ignores me again. "So, does this mean she's supposed to be here?" Seriously? I'm still in the room. At least pretend I can hear you. "Yes, Emmie is the perfect trial to help our kind better connect with humans." Wait, muscled said what? He's referring to humans as a separate race? Oh no. Definitely not, I'm out. I stand to leave, but a hand puts pressure on my shoulder. "Emmie, your mother can explain this. It's all right, no need to run." I narrow my eyes at his hand. He yanks it off me like he's been burned. "Listen, I have no idea what's going on. My mom didn't say anything to me about a trial run. Not to mention you guys are really freaking me out. You're referring to humans like you're another species. That's weird, not to mention this guy has a snake tongue and keeps discussing me like I'm not there!" Finished with my rant I pick up my backpack and prepare to leave. Scratch what I thought before, I want to move immediately. Muscle suit lays another hand on my shoulder. "I'm sorry Emmie." He says. I glare at him, "Are you serious? Move your ha-!" Before I can finish, a white light smothers my senses. This can't be good.
