The pink-skin hovering woman bowed. "Hello there, Incubi! Welcome to Arkern Island, the lands to which you are now bound. I am Maeva, and I will be your counselor from now on!"
"I take it that you're the one who's finally going to answer our questions," Von said, squinting at Maeva; left eye blue-black, swollen and congested. "Please start now."
Vyn stood roving about at the colorful grass; green, violet, gold, white, the tall curling trees that provided shade from the three distant suns in the sky, and the kingdom built of stone afar.
Von could tell that he truly didn't care about explanations. And he was right. Vyn wasn't trying to fathom their predicament. He cared so remotely. If anything, he was dying to explore this predicament of theirs.
Hovering before them, Maeva clasped her hands behind her back. "What is it that you wish to know?"
Von fixed his broken pair of glasses. "Surely that pilot brought us here on purpose. But why did he?"
"He simply acted as per the DMA's requests," Maeva said, retaining her smile.
He grimaced. "The DMA?"
"Yes," she said, "it stands for Dissociation Methodical Authority."
"It's always a secretive government behind shit like this," Vyn said, shaking his head.
"Yes, the DMA is very mysterious and secretive indeed. Even the employees like myself are often questioning things like the man in charge of it all."
Von furrowed his brows. "You said you're an employee, right?"
"Yes, I did."
"Give me one reason why I shouldn't slap you outta the air!" He snapped.
"Should you do so now, I'll simply abandon both of you, leaving you ignorant and confused ... that's only assuming I've decided to spare your lives, mind you."
"Right."
"The DMA is no evil government," Maeva said. "It is doing this for the greater good. Unity spells destruction. The dissociation eliminates propinquity via separation and isolation."
Von raised a brow. "The separation and isolation of what?"
"Why, magical beings, of course," Maeva smiled.
Vyn leaned in. "Magical beings you say ..."
"Indeed. Before today, you knew only about humans and animals. None of which you are. But there are more than just humans and animals. There is magic and magical beasts and dragons--many of the urban legends you've grown up hearing about exist!"
Vyn perked up. "What about dryads?"
"A few exist here," Maeva nodded.
"That's flipping great! Definitely getting laid on this island."
"There are also many beings you haven't heard of," Maeva said, "that's why I suggest that you remain safe."
"So ..." Von trailed off, "they're separating magical beings for what purpose?"
"For peace," Maeva spun in the air. "Unity of different things spell destruction, remember? Magical beings--even humans with over-average mana levels--must be separated from ordinary human beings: the dominating race.
"Failure to dissociate these magical beings from human beings could result in chaos."
The DMA (Dissociation Methodical Authority) had but one job: dissociate methodically. And they had been doing this one job for centuries.
For centuries, they swept in, stole creatures from hospitals, tracked down men with high mana levels on the radar, and hunted those who found a way to gain magical prowess outside of Arkern Island.
Sometimes, however, the radars, weapons and their haste didn't suffice. A newborn was often born identical to a human being for a few years only to become a magical creature or one with high mana levels later.
And the DMA ... they couldn't have this. They couldn't allow this at all. And so, they virtually never failed to capture beings like these and either eliminate or bring them to Arkern.
"And how exactly are we not human?" Von asked.
Vyn looked down at his hands. "I look pretty human to me," he passed a hand through his hair and smirked, "pretty darn good-looking one too."
Von scoffed at his twin.
"You are not human beings. The DMA makes no mistake," Maeva said "look at the strips of paper given to you."
They both jammed their hands into their pockets and pulled out the strip of golden paper. They'd shoved them there on their way to the gate after realizing that each was blank.
Looking at the strips of paper again, they realized that they weren't blank at all. There was text in bold red. How could they have missed it before?
They watched the text pooped right out of the pieces of paper and slammed into there faces in the form of red light.
Their eyes glowed red then waded, reverting to their natural colors. And when they regained sight, they noticed something: hovering books before them.
The books were red with golden embroidery and yellowish pages. As they flipped through the pages, they noticed naught but glowing text and many blank pages. They narrowed and squinted their eyes in their attempts to decipher and comprehend the text.
"Speak the word 'Magnify' for better readability of the text," Maeva said.
"Magnify," Vyn said.
Suddenly, the text and all the information in the book increased in size and shined out of the book, almost like a hologram. The text hovered before Vyn as he held the book in his hands.

"Hey, Von, it says here I'm an incubus."
Von grimaced. "Don't give me that bullshit, Vyn. Let me see." He leaned in, trying to make head or tail of what he was supposed to be looking at.
"Where do you see that? The pages are blank."
"Not in the book. The words are hovering in front of us."
"I don't see it."
"Only the owner of the grimoire is capable of seeing the information displayed," Maeva said.
Vyn scoffed, looking down the grimoire in his hand. "Magnify!"
The intensity of the text's glow increased as it and shimmered out of the book, displaying the information to him.

"Incubus!" Vyn snapped. "What is that supposed to mean?"
