Chapter 1 - I'd rather kill myself than to be abandoned

God put me through this ordeal after I had a forced double suicide with my beloved boyfriend in my previous life.

"You will be reincarnated as a villainess named 'Sheila Delvigne,' and you will have to suffer the pain of having your betrothal broken off by your beloved groom-to-be and thus having a man taken from you."

That is how I started my new life in this glittering world as a pathetic heel...Sheila Delvigne.

I had a maid to take care of me at all hours of the day, I could buy lots of pretty clothes, and I had absolutely nothing to be sick about.

For a moment, I thought, "Maybe I've gotten over my emotional instability."

But that was until I met him.

"Shaila, I'm sorry, but I don't see you as anything more than the bride my parents decided for me."

The young man who coldly tells me off is my fiancée, Gil Kubrick.

Is this part of the trial God has given me or is it a matter of my karma?

What I means is that I began to follow him around, just like I used to do back in my previous life.

'Gil, you don't like me?

"...Leave me alone, please."

"Why are you ignoring me? I even sent you a telegram, but you didn't reply. What's wrong with you?"

"I can't deal with the sheer number of things you send me. In the first place, don't contact me every time you get a haircut or change your lipstick color."

"I'm sorry...what? I don't understand. Why? You don't like me after all, do you? I love you so much, but you are treating me terribly. Oh...you don't need me, right? I'm going to have a slash... oh, you know what a slash is, don't you? Here, give me a knife. So I would take a knife to the vein in my wrist, like this..."

"~~ Oh my god, I don't know what's going on, but calm down for once! I'm listening!"

This kind man, Gil, could not give up on me and often accompanied me to talk with me.

Sometimes he would reprimand me.

"Why do you value life so little?"

"Because if I can't be with you, Gil, then what's the point? The only thing of value in this world is the time I spend with you. I don't care about anything else. I am willing to die for this love."

"So don't say things like that lightly!"

"I'm sorry. So Gil doesn't like women who say this kind of thing. I am worthless after all. I'd rather die..."

"I don't hate you! I don't hate you, so let go of the knife!"

"Gil..."

"God, you really are a handful..."

"Why are you smiling?"

"Uh... ah..."

"I wonder why..."

Then came X-Day.

At a party I attended with Gil that day, Gil meets Hannah Rosevelt, the heroine of the story.

...At least that's what was supposed to happen, but Gil didn't leave my side.

"Gil, is it okay for you to not go around and say hello to the visitors?"

"Oh. I wouldn't want you to throw a tantrum over it."

"Well... apparently you know exactly what I am."

"I'm not just dealing with you as a daily custom. Come on, give me a hand."

"What do you mean, 'hand?'"

"This is what I'm talking about."

Gil took my left hand and held it as if to wrap it with his own right hand.

"How does this feel like? This should put your mind at ease."

"What...?B-but Gill, why do you..."

"There are a lot of guests here today, so keep quiet."

I looked at Gil and saw that he had turned his head away in a different direction. Was it to avoid eye contact with me?

But I could see right up to his ear that it was turning red.

Oh, my...? Where is this going to..?

"I am sorry to interrupt your conversation.

Please allow me to greet you two, Mr. Kubrick and Lady Delvigne."

Hannah, clearly lost patience of waiting for Gil to show up, came to greet him herself.

I'd say she is indeed a heroine...

The whiteness of her skin and her soft smile are stunning.

"...Oh, I know you, the celebrated lady of the Rosevelt family."

Gil said in a tone of voice that did not seem very interested.

Hannah, on the other hand, was clearly enchanted by Gil. I was no longer in her sight, and instead everything that consists Gil's graceful figure seemed to have occupied it.

"I'm Hannah Rosevelt. It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance."

"It's nice to meet you, too."

"Oh, it's a pleasure to meet you. I have heard so much about you, Mr.Kubrick."

"I see, thank you. And by the way..."

Gil said so quickly, not caring about Hannah's angelic smile.

"About this woman beside me,"

He strongly hugged my shoulder toward him.

"Remember her as 'Sheila Kubrick,' not 'Lady Delvigne'."

I looked at Hannah and Gil's faces alternately in surprise.

Hannah looked even more surprised than I was and said, "Allow me to be excused." as she strode away.

Oh my...?

I thought I'm supposed to be a villainess...?
