Jake and the other four members of his gang escaped out of the bar through the back door. They were all running frantically, the sprint was worse for Romeo because he hadn't fully recovered from the shot on his arm.
Julia had the best shape among them, Jake was starting to think that she was a sprinter in her last life. He was confused though, he was wondering why the Scorpions were chasing them. They didn't have any recent beef that he could remember.
They ran up to ten poles, and Jake kept glancing back to confirm if they were being followed by the Scorpions.
The Scorpion is the name of late Eric's gang. They were one of the most feared gangsters in the city. Nobody knew where they got their weapons from. Jake's gang became a rival to them when Jake had a fight with Eric on one of their suicidal missions.
Late Eric's facial features were angelic just as that of Romeo's. He had a very babyish face and Jake thought he would be easy to beat when they were on the motive to fight. But unfortunately, seven minutes after they started fighting, Jake saw himself on the ground with his own pool of blood. He lost the fight, but Eric still hated him for a reason he couldn't understand.
Eric was only twenty-nine years old when he died. A guy named Blade was the second in command in their gang, and that guy was the person leading the other members to go after Jake and his gang.
They kept running silently for some time before Vikram glanced back to know if they've lost them. He froze when he saw that the Scorpions were indeed coming after them.
"Boss...boss" Vikram stammered in fear.
"What is it?" Jake asked him while stopping. He was a little annoyed with the disturbance, he wanted to say something about Vikram being a lazy runner when his eyes saw what was behind them.
They were being chased with a black Cadillac Ciel convertible car. Jake was not a lover of cars but he knew that the vehicle chasing them had about 430 horsepower in it.
There were about six people in the car including Blade. Bob could see from where he stood that the car was getting close to them. He was thinking whether to continue running or to wait for Blade.
But when he saw their terrifying weapons, he had no other option but to shout "Run!" for everybody to hear.
They all started to panic and were about to resume running when Jake shouted to them.
"Stop!" I'm not running from any of those b*stards anymore. "Let's wait for them and see what they want." Jake said.
Bob hissed at Jake's order but he obeyed it. The others looked at him suspiciously but they gave in when they thought he might have a plan.
****
They didn't wait for up to eight minutes before the car stopped at their front. Jake observed that the car wasn't black like he thought but it turned out to be dark blue.
The place they were in was a secluded part of east New York called Space Air. Nobody lived there, the place is only surrounded by ongoing and uncompleted buildings of different shapes and sizes.
Jake glanced at his watch and discovered that the time was 10:47pm. He clenched his teeth in rage and it didn't go unnoticed by Bob.
Nobody in the car moved out, it was like they were daring Jake and his gang to make a silly attempt to escape. The car didn't have a tinted glass, so Jake's gang could see everybody that was inside.
The car door didn't open and the twelve people in Space Air remained still like a statue.
The car door suddenly opened and a guy of about 6ft tall walked into the moonlight's darkness.
He had dark skin, brown hair and a pair of grey eyes that could never betray his emotion. He was wearing a black suit without a tie.
Romeo stared thoroughly at the black American figure standing in front of them. The guy's aura seemed to speak power and Romeo would have bet a million bucks that he acted scarier than Jake. The man's first cloth button was open and Romeo could see that he had a tattoo drawing of a scorpion which stretched on from his neck to his collarbone.
He was terribly handsome, and for a moment, Julia forgot that he was supposed to be their enemy.
Romeo and Julia had never met him before. Only Jake and Vikram with Bob had met him since they had once had a meeting together.
The other five people in the car didn't come out. They were all at alert with their weapons in case they were signaled by their new boss to shoot.
"Hey Jake Bones!" Blade finally said. Jake hated him with passion any time he added Bones to his name. He had the sudden urge to attack Blade but he kept cool; seeing the weapons his followers were armed with.
"It's been a long time," he continued. "You're not gonna introduce us?"
"What do you want?" Jake asked coldly.
Blade ignored his question and walked up to Julia. He got there and he spoke with his fake voice.
"My real name's Alex but I'll prefer it if you call me Blade, mà lady."
He kissed Julia's knuckles as a way of introduction and everybody noticed that Julia was dumbfounded and rooted to the ground when he did it. She flushed at his nice voice and fake personality.
"What's your name?" Blade asked her.
"My name's …"
"Julia! Jake yelled. "Are you freaking dumb headed? You're fuc*ing flirting with our enemy."
Julia heard Jake's angry voice and she quickly realized her mistake, she immediately frowned her face to the amusement of Blade and she walked out of him. She walked to the back of Bob and stood there.
"So we're now enemies?" Blade asked him mockingly.
"I'm asking for the last time, what do you want?" Jake said.
Blade's expression wasn't looking flirtatious anymore. His face suddenly turned into something else and Romeo could be seen shivering in fear.
"I want our money," Blade quietly said.
The gang of five looked at Blade like he was an alien speaking a strange language. "What the hell is he talking about?" Bob quietly asked Julia.
"What money?" Jake asked with his brows knitted in confusion.
"Don't waste my time Bone!" Blade said in a threatening voice. "Just bring the mother-fuc*ing money and let's pretend like this shit never happened.
"I swear I don't know what you're talking about," Jake said. His gang still didn't notice any kind of fear in him, he was as cool as they were merely talking about the weather.
Blade stared at the blue eyes of Jake, it seemed like he wasn't lying. But how could it be that he didn't know the money was for the Scorpions?
Blade was thinking of the possibility when he noticed the car door open. His personal assistant and fellow gangster came out of the car with Blade's phone ringing. Blade left Jake's gang to go answer the phone call. He didn't talk for up to five minutes before the person on the line told him something.
He dropped his jaw in surprise and stared at Jake. Blade ended the call after promising the person that he'll call later.
"I want to go now, give me the freaking money." Blade shouted at the top of his lungs.
"How do you expect me to give you money for what I have no idea of? I don't remember owing you or your late boss." Jake said, purposely dragging the "Late Boss" to annoy Blade.
It did really annoy Blade because he brought out a pistol from his suit and put the cold barrel on Jake's head. Jake's gang who were supposed to be fearless looked frightened as they saw the scene unfold before them.
Jake didn't flinch with the gun on his head. With his facial mood, one would have thought that the contents of the gun was mere water.
Blade lowered his gun in irritation. He was the top seven most wanted criminal in east New York and this guy didn't seem to have any fear of him. He hissed in frustration.
"Listen and listen carefully Jake," he said. "The money you got from robbing the insurance company's skyscraper is a hundred thousand dollars, right?"
"The three black guys which you caused them to be jailed are members of the Scorpion. I wanted to kill you the moment they were arrested but my instincts told me not to. Now, look at me Jake."
"I'm taking only ninety five thousand dollars from that money. My plan was to take all, but I reconsidered that your broke gang need money to eat or else they'll die as quickly as your late parents did.``
Jake's hands were balled into a fist, it took him all his self control not to pounce on Blade and beat the hell out of him. Jake didn't believe him at first, but this was the first time Blade called his name without adding Bone. So he was dead serious.
Blade climbed back into the car after giving Jake a written address of where he was supposed to bring a ninety five thousand dollars cash the next day. The car drove off through the direction it came from, and that was when the Oxygen in Space Air suddenly came back.
