Waves crashed below into a rocky cliff on an undisclosed island somewhere in the Pacific, and in the distance, buzzing of rotors can be heard. Two helicopters flew over the raging seas and towards a land mass in the distance, heavy rainfall muffled the blades as they spun.
Over at the island, a huge concrete structure lay on the edge of one of the cliffs. A huge platform sat in front of the structure, and massive steel gates guarded the entrance.
The two helicopters arrived and they slowly descended from the dark charcoal sky, the steel gates began to rumble as they opened, seemingly shaking the entire island. There, just beyond the threshold of the gate, stood 3 men in black suits and 4 soldiers around them.
The soldiers in the helicopters stepped out and walked through the downpour, looking unaffected by it. They carried big duffle bags and packs, they wore black uniforms and plate carriers, they entered the structure and stood shoulder to shoulder, facing the 3 men in black suits. The man in the middle of the trio stepped out.
"Welcome to Site-14 laddies. This place will be your new residence for the remainder of the next 12 years. Follow us in, I'm sure you'll enjoy it here." He said with a posh accent. He, his two other colleagues, and their guards turned around and they walked deeper into the massive tunnel.
The tunnel was circular, pipes and wires lined the sides and cylindrical lights lit the place up from the walls. The air was humid and the walls damp, they walked on the walkway on the right of the tunnel, just below it were roads for vehicles. They reached a wall with a door through it beside another massive steel gate.
They opened it up to reveal a cleaner, whiter, hall. It continued on until another set of doors were opened up and behind the final set of doors was a massive dome like chamber with a sky roof spanning to the edges. The men reached a big open space beside the road. The road ahead split up into 3 ways, each tunnel labeled with big numbers from S-1 to S-3. Then they heard the rumbling of engines coming from deeper within the depths of the tunnel in front of them.
2 huge white trucks drove in from the front tunnel, their wheels squealing to a stop. One of the suited men entered the cabin of one of the trucks and as he climbed on he shouted to the men.
"Get in the trucks, our destination is not far off."
"Let's go laddies, what are you waiting for?" They loaded themselves onto the back of the trucks, they shifted as the men hopped on. The last ones that entered into their designated trucks closed the tailgates and thus, they drove into the tunnel labeled S-1. The tunnels in this sector were far better maintained as the damp concrete slowly became cleaner, less grime and stains.
"So… Are you new to this facility?" One of the soldiers asked another.
The man he questioned simply nodded
"Me too. What's your name?" The soldier continued questioning.
"Zakuskov." The Lieutenant replied.
"Alright-" The trucks lurched forward, their brakes squealing in the process. One of the suited men in the cabin of the truck opened up a little window behind his seat that faced the soldiers and spoke.
"Unload men, we have arrived at our destination."
The soldiers unloaded and stood shoulder to shoulder in front of a metal bulkhead, with the words Sector-01 on top of it. The suited men finally got off and the trucks left.
"Follow us." One of the suited men said.
"You all know where your designated stations are, I assume. So you may head on. If I say your name you are to stay. Lt. Boris Zakuskov. Cpl. Gneol Mikhail. Sgt. Daniel Coopers. And Maj. Hans Friedrich. Follow me."
Lt. Zakuskov went in line with the other soldiers who were called out and they followed the suited man over to a checkpoint which had the words Sector-01-2. They passed through the security checkpoint after they had shown their identification cards towards security and they walked on. They were led to a containment chamber designated A-3609.
"This is where you will be stationed. Lt. Zakuskov and Cpl. Mikhail, you will be here on guard duty from 3:00pm to 3:00am. Sgt. Coopers and Maj. Friedrich, you will be here from 3:00am to 3:00pm. Do you understand?"
"Yes sir!" The four shouted in unison,
"Good. This week, I shall allow you to make yourself at home. Be sure to find your living quarters, and read over the documents regarding the special containment procedures for A-3609. Goodluck." The suited man left and the four were left alone. Maj. Friedrich looked at the others and left. Sgt. Coopers walked away shortly after, Lt. Zakuskov and Cpl. Mikhail was left alone.
"You're the one I talked to back in the truck, right?" Cpl. Mikhail asked.
"Yes. Yes I am. We should find our living quarters before we do anything else." Lt. Zakuskov told the Corporal. The Lieutenant walked away, Mikhail trailed after him when Zakuskov reached a few meters away from him.
"So… Wanna be friends or something?"
"Cpl. Mikhail is it? This isn't preschool. Go find your quarters."
"Alrighty then… See you later Mr. Grumpy" Cpl. Mikhail walked the opposite direction of the living quarters.
Lt. Zakuskov sighed and walked away. He brought out a device with the map of the sector and he looked through it to find the guards' living quarters. They were located somewhere near the entrance area of Sector-1. He found his quarters and went in.
"Better than what they had on the other facilities." He spoke to himself while looking around. The room was spartan, containing only the bare necessities as well as a bookshelf filled with old titles. He approached the side of his bed and dropped off his duffle bag. He unzipped it and grabbed a framed picture of him and his best friend and placed it onto the desk behind him.
He took out his father's custom gold engraved Nagant M1895 revolver and hung it on top of the desk. He unpacked the rest of his items, changed out of his uniform and into a Hale Navy colored jumpsuit. He sat on his bed, pulled out the A-3609 Information Documents, and he began reading through them.
