Chapter 2 - Death of Mom 2

Why did her mom have to leave like this in a state where she was just fifteen. She was still growing up. It seemed the world had turned its back on her. For eight days straight, Marilyn sat in the bathtub with water pouring over her. She had caught a cold as well as a fever and her body tensed up several times anytime she thought of the moments she had spent with her mom. Her eyes were swollen to the point where she was unable to open them. Everyone had taken turns in trying to convince her to open the door to her room but no avail. The next day, which was Tuesday, her dad had had enough of her not speaking to anyone even him, so he tried to break the door with any strong tool he could find at home. Marilyn already had a backup plan to prevent anyone from opening the door, so she managed to place her bed against the door. Her dad was not able to break the door open due to the heavy impact the bed had on the door. Marilyn lost a lot of weight as well as became malnourished. She passed out a couple of times throughout the week. It was impossible for a human to sit in a bathtub for a week but somehow Marilyn survived. She gave up because of how weak she had become. She used the last bit of strength she had to drag the bed away from the door. The next moment, she passed out. Slowly she opened her eyes due to the sobs she heard in her deep slumber. She couldn't feel her legs and arms. She felt exhausted and her eyes felt heavy. She saw her aunt and dad sobbing as they sat beside her bed. She was in the hospital because she lacked food and water. Her body system became so weak that she had to use a mechanical ventilator. She had lost so much strength that she could not have a little bit of energy to cry. Her condition was critical so she had to stay in the hospital for a few days. She was permitted to go home after they were sure her health was improving. Marilyn went straight to her bedroom as soon as they got home refusing to speak to anyone she came across with. In the evening she went to the kitchen to get some ice cubes to massage her half swollen eyes. She saw Chappy, her dog, sitting on the couch close to the window in the kitchen. Chappy seemed to have understood that Marilyn wanted to be alone so he didn't budge to get any close to her for the past weeks when she was mourning her mom's death. She went outside to sit on the grass lawn while looking blankly into the sky. A few stars were making their presence known in the dark sky. As she lay down, Chappy placed his paws on her lap to make sure he was now allowed to cuddle in her arms. Since she showed no objection or rejection, he slowly and carefully placed his head on her lap. It was strange that Chappy seemed to understand how she felt. She pat his soft ears while looking into the sky. A tear dropped on Chappy's head, so he raised his head to check if it was a drizzle of rain. When he did he realised his owner was crying so he made a sorrowful sound that made Marilyn cry even more and made her feel like taking her own life. What will be her purpose in life now? She screamed and run away to a place where she could leave the rest of the world behind. The pain she felt had no match to any other pain you could ever experience in the world. Chappy followed her until they got to a mall that was closed. It was probably midnight now. She looked at her phone when she had a notification sound and saw that it was a message from her best friend Nino . He asked why she wasn't replying to his messages and also if she was annoyed with him. She wanted to ignore the message because he had told her a month ago that he had another girl best friend. She thought that she would be his only best friend but it appeared that it wouldn't happen as she wanted it to. A call stopped her from placing the phone in her pocket. It was Nino . Marilyn made a rule concerning their friendship that he shouldn't call unless it was something important. For the first time, she picked it up and ask what he wanted. The phone line was silent for a while and when she was about to abort the call he spoke up.
