*Beeb Beeb Beeb*
'Where am I? What happened?'
Izuku's mind was cloudy, he felt like he had woken up too early. He would have slipped right back into sleep if the memories of charging a villain to save Katsuki didnt come to the front of Izuku's mind.
'Oh yeah, that happened. But how did I end up here.'
Just like before, the relevant memories came to mind. He remembered the feeling of power welling up in him, slashing the villain in pieces right after yanking Kachan out of the sludge villain but everything after was blank.
'That's right I awakened my quirk...'
'I awakened my quirk...'
'HOLY CRAP I AWAKENED MY QUIRK!'
Izuku's eyes shot wide open, expecting to be in his room only to see an unfamiliar ceiling.
*Beep Beep Beep*
A heart monitor? Was he in a hospital? That wasn't important right now. His quirk, Sword where were they?
Izuku sat up to look around the room for his quirk. He didn't see Sword on the wall or near his bed. So he got up and checked under it, the I.V and other needles were in the way so he pulled them out to look for Sword but his quirk wasn't under the bed either.
Was awakening his quirk just his imagination, a dream?
'Don't worry partner, I'm real.' The familiar voice of Sword spoke to Izuku in his head.
"SWORD!" Izuku was so happy he could cry. So he did. "Waah, sord I thought you weren't real."
'Sorry for worrying you, partner. I was so focused on keeping you alive that it took a while for me to snap out of my life support mode.' The quirk explained to their reckless partner. 'Ya know, when I said follow your heart, I didn't mean you had to try to blow the villain away. Drawing on so much power nearly killed you ya know. Your body ain't ready for it ya know.' Sword pestered its wielder with clear worry in their voice.
"Sorry Sword, I won't do that again." Izuku apologized while wiping tears from his eyes. "I honestly didn't know what I was doing was dangerous."
Sword sighed, somehow. 'This is my fault, I shouldn't have just told you to basically yolo it.'
Sword had immediately regretted giving Izuku such crap advice when it felt just how strong Izuku's will truly was. If you could quantify will then Izuku had generated triple the amount that was expected. So now Sword would correct its mistake by giving Izuku a proper rundown on his newfound abilities.
'Alright, partner listen up. I'm about to give you the rundown on your newfound power. When you wield me, your will flows through me and becomes more than just an emotion. It becomes power. For simplicity's sake, let's call this power Will Power. You followin' me?'
Izuku nodded twice to show he understood.
"Good. Now, you can use Will power to improve your physical and mental faculties like strength, speed, and perception. You can even use Will Power to refill your stamina. However, your body has a limit to the amount of Willpower it can withstand, and going over that limit can destroy your body. Something you have already experienced." Sword finished, referring to how Izuku ended up in the hospital
"Then how do I stop myself from..." Izuku paused to search his mind for the right word to use. "Overloading. I don't really know how to stop myself from, I don't know, being willful."
"That problem, my good partner, has a simple solution. Don't get worked up. The more emotional or true to yourself you are the more Will Power you generate. So controlling your yourself and emotions controls your Willpower. Any other questions?" Sword Inquired of its wielder.
"Yes actually, I was wondering if-"
"Izuku," a shaky feminine voice cut off Izuku's question to Sword.
Izuku recognized this voice and was now nearly as scared as when he had charged the sludge villain. He knew this would happen the second he woke up. That he would have to face the biggest obstacle to his dream, second only to himself, his mom.
She was a strict no-nonsense woman who had declared Izuku's dream unattainable the second the doctor had declared Izuku quirkless. Instead of encouraging him to become a hero as she had done before, she began talking down on his dream of becoming a hero and started grooming him to become the next CEO of Spiral Inc. A profession Izuku had no interest in, as a matter a fact he had recently started hating it.
Inko Midoriya was in her usual businesswoman attire, a black blazer, and skirt with a button-down white shirt. Her classic heels were no higher than three inches to keep her look perfectly business professional. Her good looks, stern expression, and fit body gave her the intimidating air of a Queen Bee.
Izuku turned looked up from his position on the side of the bed and made direct eye contact with his mother. Despite hearing worry in her voice earlier all he saw was her usual stone-faced indifference. With a practiced All Might smile, he greeted her.
"Hey mom, now I know I got into some troub-"
"Silence," Inko demanded. Her voice was steady and without any hint of emotion. She stared her son down with a glare that would bore a hole in him if he wasn't already used to being under it. "I thought I told you to give up on being a hero Izuku."
"I did," Izuku lied instinctively. He had done this song and dance with his mother before and knew what to say to get her to give up on the topic. Or at least he thought he did.
"Izuku Midoriya, did you just lie to me?" Inko asked, her voice still even and emotionless.
Izuku broke eye contact with her and moved his face toward the ground. To Izuku this action is a means to make lying to his mother easier. To Inko it was an admittance of guilt.
"I..." Izuku started.
"...Didn't," Inko finished. Deciding to pull out the evidence she had on her son. His hero analysis notebook.
Izuku was shocked and it showed on his face. He began to ponder when and how it was that his mom got her hands on his notebook? He was sure it was in his pants pocket when he charged the villain.
Izuku, without looking, began to pat down his pants pockets only to realize he wasn't wearing any pants. He looked down to see what had replaced them and saw that he was in a hospital gown.
Confusion became Izuku's primary emotion, his mind began to think of all the different reasons why he would be in a hospital gown? Did he really get roughed up that bad? Sword did say he almost died but If he got that injured he wouldn't be standing just after a few hours of sleep. Unless a person in this hospital has a healing quirk.
"Your thinking that you've only been asleep for an hour and that someone in this hospital or a hero healed you with their quirk arent you." The Midoriya matriarch stated more than asked. She took pride in only a few things outside her work and one of those things was being able to accurately guess whats going on inside her son's head.
Izuku felt uneasy about his mother reading him so well. If Izuku didnt know any better he would have assumed his mom had a mind-reading quirk or something.
"Yeah, am I wrong?" Izuquestionedion sheepishly.
"Very," was his mother's one-word reply. in the next few moments, her face shifted from her usual stoic expression to a scowl and her voice became more heated than Izuku had heard in years. "You been in a coma for three days! Do you know how I felt waiting hours for you to come home only to receive a call from the police saying that you were in the ICU!"
"I'm..." Izuku tried to apologize again but his mother would have none of it.
"SILENCE! Don't you dare say another word." Inko had now dropped all pretense of being calm and collected and was now practically snarling at her son. "You charged into a villain, for what? A chance at playing hero! When are you going to grow up Izuku? You cant be a hero, you don't even have a quirk!"
Now it was Izuku's turn to get angry. His mother always mentioned his quirklessness and used it to discourage his dream of being a hero just like everyone else. But things were different, he wasn't quirkless anymore. He had the power to become a hero.
"You're wrong!" Izuku shouted back, his eyes no longer glued to the floor but staring defiantly at his mother. If Inko was mad before she was livid now.
"How dare you raise your voice at me!"
I'm not quirkless, not anymore." Izuku materialized Sword in his lap, shocking his mother enough to quell her rage. Seeing her shocked state Izuku believed that if he reasoned with her now she would once again approve and support his dream to become a hero.
Izuku was wrong.
"This changes nothing!" Inko regained her composure but anger was still in her voice. "you don't have time to play hero when the company needs an heir."
"I don't want to inherit the company, I want to be a hero. Why can't you understand that? Understand me?"
"Because if your ultimate goal is to help people then you don't need to be a hero to do it. It's dangerous, inefficient, and just because you have a quirk dosent mean you will be a good one." Inko sighed frustration before continuing her lecture in a calm voice. "Listen, if you want to help people just inherit the family business. You'll become as rich and powerful as you need to help as many people as you want. I don't even care if you run the company into the ground so long as you inherit it."
Izuku was going to have another back and forth with his other but a nurse stopped the issuing conflict with her appearance.
"Miss Midoriya, the staff are going to perform an examination on Izuku so we are going to need you to leave the room."
Inko stood up and huffed, not paying any attention to the nurse. Her stoic facial expression and neutral voice were regained the moment the nurse walked into the room. She turned to leave and was halfway through the door when she spoke to Izuku again.
"Call the chauffeur to bring you home when they discharge you." With those final words, Inko disappeared from the room into the hallways.
It would be another two days before Izuku was cleared to leave the hospital and when he got out he would find out just how much his life could change in the span of just a week.
