Chereads / The Fallen God Chronicles / Chapter 12 - The Cocofiends.

Chapter 12 - The Cocofiends.

Arkanos and Kulana stood, ready to fight the horde of coconut monsters before them. The small creatures were still disorganized, running around their celebration grounds, grabbing stone weapons and blowpipes, but some had prepared themselves, grouping up in front of the fallen god and his priestess companion. They all steeled themselves for battle, chanting together as Arkanos shook his blade, ready to swing.

"Um, Arkanos..." Kulana's voice was filled with uneasiness, and the god sighed.

"Look, I'd rather not talk about it. we drank some of Quetzalcoatl's tainted alcohol and Phrea and I thought they would be funny." Arkanos groaned, approaching the horde of Cocofiends, the group loosing their cool and beginning to cower before the god.

"Quetza what now?" Kulana's eyebrow furrowed as she tried to pronounce the unfamiliar name. Her expression shifted to amazement as the god swung his sword, cleaving a large grouping of the horde in two, their small coconut bodies flying into the air and covering the ground with coconut water. Some splashed Kulana on the face, and after tasting it... "They're really just sentient coconuts?!?!"

"Will you help my before they make more of them?" Was all Arkanos replied with, grabbing a Cocofiend and throwing it at a set of ten, causing all but one to roll away as their limbs faded. The last one seemed to feel his body and expressed relaxation as it was still alive before it was crushed under Arkanos' foot.

The other Cocofiends that had ran in the opposite direction began to assault the two with projectiles, Arkanos' false arm shifting into a semi shield. He used the limb to block most of what was shot towards him, while he sliced ay fiends that dared to try and attack him with a melee weapon.

Kulana, was taken aback by the scene playing before her. Was she still asleep? Was all this a fever dream? Hundreds of coconuts with limbs attacking the god that was supposed to help them save their world. Was all this a prophecy? "Hey, Imma go back to sleep..." She turned away from the wild scene, beginning to go back to their campsite. She was stopped when a sharp object cut her arm. She winced in pain, reeling the struck arm back, seeing that there was indeed a cut and it stung. She turned to see where the projectile had come from, seeing a small group of Cocofiends approaching her.

She collected herself, preparing her knife and raising her other had, mentally chanting a protective prayer. Her skin was covered in a soft glow, telling her that the prayer worked. This was real, as ridiculous as it may have appeared.

The fiends charged at her, the one with the blowpipe trying to load another projectile into its weapon. She slashed at the first Cocofiend to approach, the knife cutting through the coconut like butter, the fiend dying as the body fell in two. She grabbed the small weapon, which was like a small hammer, and threw it at another Fiend, knocking it back towards the ranger of the group. The two collided, but both were still alive.

Arkanos meanwhile, was still reaping Cocofiends like wheat in a field, the grounds littered with destroyed coconuts. The massive horde continued to try and stop the unwavering god, throwing objects at him in a futile attempt to damage him. Arkanos, only growing more annoyed with his inebriated creations, continued to cull the Cocofiends, knowing full well that the next day, many of the coconuts on the island would become sentient and replace these ones. He saw the objects they needed and continued to steam roll through the mob standing between him and his objective.

Kulana was finishing the last Cocofiend that attacked her, having a few cuts along her arms and body. Her makeshift coverings threatened to fall apart due to damage, and she tied the cut strands together to keep that from happening. Soon she'd have her coconut husk attire, so it's not like her current clothing would remain log anyway, She turned to see how Arkanos was practically spinning in circles, sending destroyed coconuts flying all over. Liquid began to rain down on her and she covered her head, just incase a coconut shell flew in her direction. She watched as the large horde that had been in their way a few minutes ago was now reduced to a small scattered group of Cocofiends. Arkanos stopped spinning, halting in front of the pile that held their items. He sheathed his sword, ignoring the Cocofiends that were running around in a paicked state, making strange noises that could only be described as screaming. Kulana thought it sounded like pigs squealing, but she ignored it, walking up to the god. She had to avoid tripping on any shards of coconuts, a task that was quite difficult given what just happened.

After managing to get next to him, he handed her her items that were stolen; her priestess outfit, her cot, and other smaller jewelry made with coconut products. Arkanos' arms were more full, carrying the Hero's items as well as their food and sail for their canoe. "Let's get out of here." Was all he said, running away from the pile ad back the forest, heading back to the camp. Kulana, still bewildered at what she had just taken part in, followed closely, leaving the field of coconut creatures.

---------------------------

The Hero yawned and sat up from the floor, rubbing his eyes to get the crap out of them. He winced when sand that was o his hand slipped in, and he was now wiping his eye to rid of the sand. Once he got the sand out, he realized he was rather cold, looking down to see he was nude, with only a small skirt covering his lower half. He freaked out, looking around to see Arkanos and Kulana were missing. He was clueless, rubbing a sore spot on his neck. "Kulana? Arkanos?" He called out, looking around the beach, holding the makeshift clothing against himself.

He turned around towards the forest when both of the people he was concerned for came storming out, carrying a bunch of stuff with them. Arkanos threw some thing at the Hero, and after catching it, he saw that it was his malo. "Wha-"

"Shut it and get dressed. We are leaving." The god demanded, jumping onto the canoe and reattaching the sail to the mast. Still confused, he went to one side of the canoe so he didn't flash Kulana. She did the same, both turned away to put their clothing back on.

Kulana had removed her top, exposing her shoulder where there was now a red mark from where she tied the outfit. She was glad to have her comfortable priestess uniform back. She strapped herself together and began packing their camp up, putting it all into the canoe.

Once the Hero was done dressing up, he looked around and saw that camp was already packed and the two were pushing the canoe into the water. He ran to help them, pushing the canoe into the water. The three hopped on and Arkanos paddled away from the island. The Hero looked back, the looked towards the god. "Uh, someone wanna explain what just happened?"

"We faced a fearsome and relentless foe." Arkanos uttered out, a quiver in his voice. Kulana gave him a confused look, her head tilted to the side. "A foe more fearsome than a Serpent Squid."

"They wee just coconuts!" Kulana shouted, causing the Hero to shift his gaze towards her. He figured he was still asleep and decided to fall asleep on the raft, wanting to wake up from this weird dream.
