I'll keep the note in case it turns out to be a useful lead in finding Amelie. I couldn't grasp what was written on the notes, so I put it aside for the time being. My job search was put on hold yesterday due to unforeseen circumstances. So, for the time being, I'll continue looking for a job.
When I look over to my side, where my brother's bed is, I notice him sleeping soundly. I approached him and gently tapped my brother on the shoulder to wake him up.
"Wake up! You still have a class."
I say as I pinch his ears when I'm unable to wake him up no matter how hard I try.
Max caresses his ear and says "Ouch, ouch, that hurts brother."
I dismissed his complaint and walked out of the room to meet my parents in the dining area. Dad is sipping coffee and nibbling a piece of bread. Sigh, eating them every day makes me tired, yet I need to eat because I'll be working and need energy.
Once I'd finished my breakfast, I started to leave the apartment. I went to the tavern in Valerian town's lower eastside, which is after Astoria town. Mr. Moligans was wiping the cups with the clean cloth when I got inside. I may just ask him if he knows someone who can help me because he is a friend of my father's.
"Hello Mr. Moligans, do you know someone who can provide me a job?"
It's still early in the morning, but a few people have already started drinking. They appear to have nothing to be worried about in their lives.
"You're lucky, Jack, Arlo was just looking for someone to assist him with the butchering. Do you think you'll be able to do it?"
I was thrilled as soon as he finished speaking. I told him to introduce me to Mr. Arlo right away.
"All right, follow me."
he said as we headed towards the scary narrow rooms. There are already butchered and hanging meats. If someone told me Mr. Arlo was a cold-blooded killer, I would believe him immediately.
As we approached the far end of the room, we noticed a gigantic man with a large belly wielding a bloodied cleaver, his apron stained red from the blood. When you look at him, you might feel tempted to flee for your life. When he turned his gaze to us as he wiped the blood from his face, I swallowed my saliva since I am quite frightened right now. why do scary things keep happening to me?
"Arlo, were you looking for an assistant? You can hire this young man; he'll be a reliable helper."
He remarked as he recommended me to Mr. Arlo.
"Have you butchered before?" Mr. Arlo asked me.
"No, I haven't."
"But I can do it if you show me how."
I made it clear that I was serious about getting this job.
"All right, I'll give you ten mora per day, and you can bring a piece of meat home with you. For the time being, I'll teach you how to do it."
I was happy to hear that I would be able to provide meat to my family, so I nodded rapidly in agreement.
He teaches me how to slaughter cattle and a pig over the span of a half-day. I pitied the animals at first, but after some time, I was able to bear the feeling of sympathy for them. When Mr. Arlo urged me to do it, I quickly placed myself in front of a herd of calves to prove my commitment.
I couldn't help but be sorry when I saw the cattle being slaughtered. But, in order to feed our stomachs, we must make sacrifices. To put it another way, an animal's life must be taken in order to provide meat on the table. It may sound depressing and horrible, but it is the truth. I hid the knife behind my back and gently petted the calf, slowly locating the breastbone and making a cut to the laying cattle while I severed the organs that would cause it to die quickly and without suffering. Following Mr. Arlo's instructions, as soon as I killed the cattle, I began neatly butchering it.
Mr. Arlo's face lit up with surprise as he noticed how skilled jack was. Newbies usually tremble after taking a life, but Jack didn't. He expected him to stop slaughtering the cattle, but he was surprised to see him continuing to do so expertly.
"Way to go kid, we're done for the day."
"You can go home now."
He offered me a piece of beef that was enough for the four of us and ten mora. When I got the meat, I was so excited that I went home right away to give it to my mother to cook for our dinner.
I was on my way home when I see Professor Anderson inside the store with a beautiful woman dressed totally in red and wearing a black hat with a veil, but I can't see her since she isn't facing me. I was going to ask him what happened that night, because if Amelie was crying when she arrived home, I'm sure Professor Anderson knew why, or he was one of the causes. I'm still suspicious of him, but I'll put that aside for now because he's accompanied by someone.
I went right into our apartment and looked for mother as soon as I arrived home. She got excited when she saw me handing her the chunk of meat.
"Oh, jack, where did you get this from? If you have extra mora, you should not waste it. Save it for yourself."
Mom said as she walked to the kitchen to prepare it for our dinner.
"Oh no, mother, that was from my new boss. I became Mr. Arlo's assistant. He is a butcher, and he offered me a piece of meat and ten mora to be his helper."
"I accepted instantly because it was a good job."
"You're a butcher?" Isn't it a tough job? Will you be, ok?"
She went on to say that she was worried about my being in that line of work. I simply smiled and nodded to assure her that everything was alright. When my father and brother smelled stewed beef, they came running.
"Wow, is that a piece of meat I'm smelling? Sweet."
My brother exclaims, resounding across the kitchen. My father inquired as to where we obtained it, to which my mother replied that I had gotten it from my new job.
"So, brother, we're going to eat meat every now and then?"
Max asked, and I just nudged his head because I felt like it.
He pouted at me, which is hilarious to watch. I was ready to clean myself in the bathroom when I realized I still had ten mora from today, so I walked to my brother and gave him the five mora.
"You'll need this at school."
I remarked, turning around quickly because I was filthy from my job. As jack turned around, his brother remained silent as he gripped the mora hard in his hands.
