THE MORNING OF OCTOBER 31ST turns out to be quite bright. It isn't until the sun begins to set that everything falls in place. The true nature of the somber holiday becomes evident.
Carved pumpkins on the balconies of homes, ceramic elves sitting on porches and lawns, dark red lanterns on doorposts, and even cloaked skeletons dangling from trees. Happy kids screech wildly as they play from house to house, going trick or treating.
Their clothes of course are dark, ranging from a dull purple to a lighter green, then to an outright black. Somehow, Halloween is kind of beautiful. As a werewolf on such ominous day, its almost metaphoric for me. All the decorations blazing everywhere. I even see depictions of 'how werewolves are meant to look like'—mannequins with painted red lips, furry heads, and beastly bodies.
