"Did you get any work done?" I peered over my shoulder to look at Dante who asked me the question. Yeah, I'm still at work. It's only 5:50 pm now.
"Uh, yeah. I just got finished rearranging documents and the whatnots." I confirmed as I put the finishing documents in their respected files then placed them in their designated bookshelf.
"Good. Maybe I should reward you with a kiss." Dante smuggly stated. As he stated that, his pheromones started going crazy out of nowhere. I cringed and tried to breathe through my mouth so I didn't get influenced by his scent. Wolf lesson from your lovely Alister: When an alpha male or female began to release their pheremones, it can cause any nearby wolf to go into a heat.
I don't know why he's doing this, but I refuse to let him tempt me. That being said, though I did say I won't let him tempt me, his scent was so familiar. Strong, woodsy, and slightly fruity with a hint of vanilla. I started thinking about Aspen because that is what the scent reminded me of. My great friend. I really should check if he is still around the area.
"So tell me, why you decided to move into this town?" Dante spoke as he was reading over some documents. I furrowed my eyebrows. How did he know I moved here?
"Uh... How did you know I moved here?" I hesitantly asked.
"Did you forget that I'm the property owner of that building? I know almost everything that goes on in that building, Little Omega. Now, please do tell. I want to get to know you a little more." He calmly asserted. Well since he is going to be my new boss for awhile, I might as well try to get close to him. If his ego lets me.
"This is my hometown. I had to move away a couple years ago because of an accident with my parents. I came back because I missed it here and I am also currently trying to find an old friend here." I answered honestly. There isn't any real reason to lie since he'd probably found out anyways. This guy is a mafia boss for crying out loud. Now that I've said that, maybe he could help me find Aspen. I mean, collecting information and data is part of the mafia thing, right?
"An old friend, huh? Mind telling me about this old friend?" He queried as he flipped through some pages of files he was most likely reading.
"Why would you want to know?"
"Eh, maybe I could help you find this friend you came back for." He shrugged and suggested. Now my interest is peaked.
"And how would you help?" I quizzed him. Maybe asking this can give me some insights on how to start looking.
"Don't worry about that. I have good people who does all that hunting and information crap for me. So what do you say, want my help?" I stopped what I was doing and looked at him for a bit. What is it that he wants? There's no way he is willing to help without anything in return.
"What's the catch?" I exhorted as I crossed my arms, turning my body to face him completely.
"You become my mate." He countered. My eyes widen. Did he just say, 'Mate'?
"Why would I become your mate? Aren't you supposed to find them, not tell someone random they are your mate?!" I retaliated.
"Calm down, Alister. Geez... It looks like I phrased this the wrong way. I don't want you to 'become' my mate because you are my mate. Haven't you gotten the signs yet that we are mates?" He finally looked up from his work and looked at me with curiosity. I looked at him with complete shock. He's my mate?!
"Are you going to say anything or stand there and look stupid?" He taunted slightly. I gently shook my head to get out of the trance I was in to finally answer.
"No, I didn't get the signs..." I embarrassingly admitted. I averted my eyes as Dante cocked his eyebrow. I guess he is urging me to explain why, which is given towards his silence.
"The suppressants I take for my heat have nullen my two of my senses. One of those two is having the capability to find my mate... The other is me being able to communicate with my wolf."
"Then why the fuck do you take them? What is the brand that you're using even called?"
"I take Surpant. The only reason why I take them is because that's all I can afford. I'm not rich like you, y'know." I irritatedly stated.
"Well that's a given. Don't take those no more. I'll supply you with better suppressants, got it?" Dante asserted as he went back into his papers. I just sighed and didn't even bothered to say anything else. The only thing that was on my mind now was that this guy is my mate. Is this the reason why he didn't kill me off back then? Is he lying to me? Should I even ask this? Maybe I should take a break from work and go for a lunch break. I mean, it has only been five hours since the last time I ate.
"Hey, Capo. Is it okay for me to go on a lunch break right now?"
"Uh..." He mumbled as he looked at his watch to look at the time.
"Go ahead. Be back in an hour. Also bring me some coffee when you get back." He approved. A small smile formed onto my face, because I was allowed a break.
"What kind of coffee would you like?"
"Just give me a peppermint caramel cold brew with almond milk, raw sugar and chocolate cold foam. There's like a food court on the 10th floor. There is a starbuck down there. Just get my coffee there, okay?" He informed.
"Got it!" I stood up and made my way towards the door.
"Oh, and if they have it, get a chicken bacon caprese. If they don't get the ancho chipotle chicken sandwich. When you come back, let's continue our previous conversation. Go on now." Dante dismissed me to go off as he kept his nose between his papers and computer. This man is serious about his work.
"Okay. I'll be back later." I replied as I walked out of the door and tried to make my way back to the elevator. Let me emphasize on 'try'. This place was a lot bigger than I expected. Because I didn't pay attention on how Dante and I got to the office in the first place, I got lost. I've been wandering around this floor area for a good ten minutes and I have still have yet to have someone help me. Everytime I asked help from the people on the floor, they looked at me nervously and avoided me. I don't know why. It's not like I'm going to bite. As soon as I was about to give up, a tall man approached me.
He looked about 6'3, and had slick back dark brown hair. The best way to describe his looks is that he looked like a medium skinned italian, if that makes any sense. Too dark to be considered white, but too light to be considered light skinned or black. Maybe tanned is the word I'm looking for. He had heterochromia, one eye was blue and the other was green. He was very buff too and had some faded scars on his arms and one across his eye. He also had a short goatee. Kind of badass-ish if you ask me.
"Looks like you need some help, kid." The man gruffly state.
"First of all, I'm not a kid. Secondly, yes I would like some help. I'm lost and I don't know where the elevators are."
"Hmm... Are you new here?"
"Uh... Yeah. I started working as Mr. Mantus's secretary today and-"
"Oh, so you're him. I'm Aydrus. I'm sure Dante has told you about me already." He introduced himself as he also rudely interrupted me.
"So you're Capo's friend?" I tried to affirm.
"Mmhm, but that's not important right now. I'm going to assume you're on a lunch break, I'll escort you to the elevators." He asserted as he began to start walking away at an adjacent direction.
"Let's go. I hate wasting time." He demanded. I followed right behind and got hit with a big whiff of his musk. Bay rum, cedarwood and spearmint. He is definitely an alpha. I'd know because alpha males usually have woodsy, natural, masculine scents, beta's have more of a floral, fresh scent while omega's have more fruity, sweet and warm scents.
To my surprised, I wasn't too far from the elevator. I thanked Aydrus and pushed the button. Aydrus only nodded as a reply then suggested that we should have lunch together to get to know one another. I mean, since we are going to be co-workers and he is going to be my mentor until the time being, I said sure.
Aydrus walked inside of the elevator first and I walked right behind him. He pressed the 10th floor button and we began to descend as soon as the door closed. During the elevator ride, Aydrus was silent. He didn't say nothing. He didn't do nothing. All he did was stare boredly straight ahead with his hands in his pockets.
When the elevator reached the 10th floor, the door opened slowly to only reveal what looked exactly like a mall food court. Dante wasn't lying at all! This place looked amazing! The smell of different types of foods filled my nose as I inhaled. I was getting hungrier and hungrier by the second.
I walked out the elevator instantly, being followed by Aydrus. I started looking around to see what was all there. There was a Wendy's, Domino's, Subway, Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts, Mcdonalds, just almost every imaginable food chain on one floor.
"Well, go ahead and get what you want. I'll pay for your food." Aydrus told me as he pulled out his card. I shook my head 'no'.
"I couldn't possibly let you do that for me." I politely decline.
"Kid, just take the charity that I'm giving you and shut up." He said as he pulled out a fifty dollar bill from his wallet and handed it to me after putting his card back up. Afterwards, he walked passed me and got into a Chick fil A stall line. The place was sort of packed, but it wasn't too bad. I didn't know what I was feeling today, but came up with the decision to just go and eat from the Thai food stall and ordered a dumpling soup with a watermelon tea that had pomegranate pulps at the bottom.
Once I got my food, I sat down at an empty table and began to eat peacefully and quietly. I still couldn't wrap my head around that I found my mate. What makes matters more insane is that I am a mafia's omega. There isn't many mafia bosses out there and if you become mated with one, you are deemed 'special' and not only that, a walking target.. I never knew why, but that's all I've been told.
"Hey, you okay?" I hear a voice calling out for me. I snapped out of my trance and looked towards the voice that was calling me. It was Aydrus. I was so wrapped up in my head that I didn't even notice that Aydrus sat across from me.
"Uh.. Yeah. Sorry about that. Also, would you like your money back?" I asked as I began to pull the money out of my pocket.
"Nah. Just keep it. I get paid enough anyways." He dismissed as he began to eat his food. I would like to note that he had a lot of food. I mean a lot. Three spicy deluxe chicken sandwiches, two large fries, a thirty piece nugget, a chocolate milkshake and large water.
"Damn. Are you really going to eat all of that?" I queried in utter shock. I don't even think I would be able to finish even half of that. But maybe I'm just used to not eating a lot.
"Got a problem?" He countered as he looked up slightly to eye me with curiosity.
"I mean-"
"It's not like you're eat any of this. Just eat your soup and be quiet." He spoke as he began to dig in his large meal. There was a comfortable silence between us. We chatted a little bit as we finished eating. He told me how he knew Dante and it was quite a story. He told me that him and Dante became friends during some physical training camp. I learned that Aydrus went to that camp to become a professional bounty hunter, as Dante went because his father made him do it after he made some agreement with him. He also showed off these awesome tattoos he had. One of them was the business that we work in, which I'm guessing is the mafia symbol and the other is just a dragon sleeve tattoo.
Time passed pretty quickly until I saw what time it was. My hour was almost up and have about ten minutes to get back.
"Shit, I got to go back. Plus, I need to get him his coffee."
"Ah, okay. I'll escort you back then." He offered.
"Okay. Let me go to Starbucks right quick." I informed him as I got up from my seat, threw my trash away and got to the Starbucks venue. Luckily the line wasn't long at all. When I reached to the counter, a young woman greeted me.
"Hello, welcome to Starbucks. What can I get c'ya?"
"Can I have a uh..." I fumbled as I tried to remember what Dante wanted.
"Get him a trenta peppermint caramel cold brew with almond milk, raw sugar and chocolate cold foam. Also add an ancho chicken chipotle sandwich." I hear Aydrus order for me. If anything, he was standing right behind me. I was honestly impressed with the fact that he knew what Dante wanted.
"Coming right up. That will be $14.09 " The woman sweetly smiled. Aydrus handed her his card. She swiped it and handed it back to him.
"Your order will be ready in just a bit, Sir." She assured as she and some other employees began to make Dante's order. I turned to look at Aydrus.
"How did you-"
"I've been friends with that loser for years, kid. I know his Starbucks orders by heart." He simply said as he placed his card back into his wallet. I nodded my head up, understanding completely. The order was finished in no time which gave me six minutes to get back to the office.
