Chapter 25 - The Kekkei Genkai

Rei smirked as he read the title of the book.

'The Misfortune of Kurama blood, what a way to name the book? Well it is something i really need.'

It was a book that described the details about the Kurama clan's bloodline and other Kekkei Genkai with the knowledge the clan had on it.

He walked out as he picked the red book as well.

The librarian's eyes almost popped out of their sockets as he looked at the amount of books and scrolls the kid had taken.

Although he wanted to ask many questions like if he would be able to read all that, he kept his mouth shut and recorded the books and scrolls with a smile considering the clan chief's orders.

The librarian didn't know what was so special about the kid that he received a treatment better than any jonin of the clan as even most of the jonins weren't allowed to take this much info outside the library.

It was normal that he didn't know what was going on since Mashiho Kurama the clan's chief had ordered this information to be a secret known only to a few members of the clan, very few people knew of the existence of the kurama clan's bloodline and the tragedy they faced. If it was known that such a bloodline's power had a chance to surface and be controlled the troubles they would face were not something the current Kurama clan could handle.

Although Mashiho wasn't a top tier ninja he was an experienced old man who was all too familiar with the Konoha's dark side, on the exterior of this happy and peaceful village there were countless conspiracies and bloody battles being fought underneath.

.....

Countless bloodline driven powers existed in this world called the Kekkei Genkai.

They provided unique abilities to their wielders the most known example would be Uchiha clan's sharingan or Huga clan's byakugan.

..

Kurama clan's bloodline was a rarity that existed once a generation, it increased the talent of its user in genjutsu to monstrous levels and gave its user absolute prowess in the field of genjutsu such that even without proper training the user's genjutsu is simply overwhelming.

Furthermore, the genjutsu is so powerful that it causes the brain to believe anything that happens to the victim to the point where the genjutsu physically harms the victim's body in the same manner they envisioned. This fearsome ability allows the clan members to potentially kill their opponents with genjutsu.

Such frightening power however is not without its drawbacks. The user is equally rarely able to control the full extent of their abilities, resulting in their subconscious regulating that power, leading to the creation of a second personality in control of that power. This personality proceeds to overtake the original, turning the individual into a monster that's a danger to everyone around them.

..

Rei closed the Red book and summarised its contents as he wore a thoughtful look.

This writer of the book was quite a person he not only described the Kurama clan's bloodline he even gave details about other Kekkei genkai's that he knew of and researched.

Even Rei was surprised as he read about the different range of powers bloodline could give in this world especially when read about sharingan, it allowed the users to see chakra, copy movements and nijutsu and even gave the user some other unique powers, wasn't this simply overpowered. What bugged him most was these eyes ability to see chakra and break out of genjutsu, wasn't it a direct counter to the field he was going to specialise in.

This information was worth a lot to Rei who was young and new in this world, to him this information opened the doors of a new world as his thoughts started spinning in multiple directions.

"Let's calm down and focus for now."

Rei breathed out and sighed with a dry look as he thought about what his Kekkei genkai was.

It was simply a double edged sword although its effects seemed powerful the fact that one could lose their consciousness to the bloodline made it the worst possible power one could have.

'No wonder no one has ever survived using this power.'

Rei closed his eyes and fell in deep thought as he analysed the information in his head and started thinking of possible countermeasures he could take to control his Kekkei genkai.

He could survive by simply abandoing the life of a ninja but that wasn't something he would do.

As he opened his eyes he stood inside a pool of black colored water, there was darkness all around him swirling and moving as if it had a brain of its own, only the place where he stood was illuminated by light from a white sphere keeping the darkness at bay, he was in his mental space.

*splash**splash**splash*

The water splashed as Rei moved closer to the darkness to inspect it.

As he moved his hand closer to it a few tendrils of the darkness moved towards his hand like smoke and proceeded to touch him.

The instant his hand touched the smoke Rei blanked and his face distorted as thoughts of death and destruction filled his head involuntarily.

'Shit!' *huff* *huff*

He pulled his hand away hurriedly and panted heavily.

'That was dangerous.'

He looked at the smoke as it receded into the darkness because the moment it touched the white light it started dispersing.

This light is probably the only reason I am still sane.

The white sphere that Rei thought was his souls and white light his soul's strength were the only thing unaffected by this darkness.

If it was any other person the darkness would have already devoured them but Rei's soul was of a seasoned expert and old man who had experienced countless battles and a long life, although it was damaged due to his reincarnation it was still strong enough to keep the darkness at bay.

'Wait then if my soul strength grows won't i be able to eventually take control of this situation.'

Rei thought as looked all around him at the swirling darkness with an expectant look on his face.

As long as he didn't use the powers of his Kekkei genkai his soul would naturally become strong enough to handle this power with time.

'But won't it take too long.'

Rei was right his soul would strengthen naturally as he aged, depending on the power of his Kekkei genkai it could take from a few years to a few dozen years for his soul to become strong enough to handle this power.

It was basically no different from not having this power, how could Rei a former Archmage and researcher ignore understanding and using his own bloodline's abilities.

Just the description of his ability excited him making him want to use it as soon as possible, also if he unfortunately encountered an emergency situation this ability would be really helpful.

After mulling over it for a while he thought of a way that could fasten up him gaining control of his Kekkei genkai.

'Since this power is related to genjutsu, my control and experience with genjutsu might as help me control this power faster.'

If he could improve his chakra control and genjutsu control to a good extent he should be able to use his Kekkei genkai pretty soon and he wouldn't have to depend entirely on his soul strength.

'Huhu Lets do my best then.' Rei looked at the genjutsu scrolls and books that lay before him and laughed lightly in excitement as he decided on his future plans.
