The day had started like many others. Heiran had woken up to the blinding morning light of the pale blue sun shining through her window, she dressed quickly, and cleansed her teeth with a quick blast of simple soap essence, and headed downstairs to eat her usual boiled abloid eggs for breakfast. Having eaten, she wished her uncle a good day, before heading to school, mentally preparing for yet another boring day.
She was pleasantly surprised when the school day didn't turn out as dreadfully boring as usual. Instead of once again learning boring stuff like math and essence theory, their teacher had decided to spend the entire day catching up on the really useful stuff, like essence manipulation. She really hated sitting behind a desk, reading textbooks and copying what the teacher writes on a piece of paper, especially when she had already read everything interesting from the books at home, so doing the exact opposite instead was truly a blessing.
By the end of the day, she was happily skipping along the cobbled forest path back to her uncles farm, whilst enjoying the sounds of the pale blue forest, when she heard a sound that didn't belong. A long ear-piercing scream echoed throughout the forest. Heiran wasn't sure what the creature that made the noise was, as it didn't exactly sound like a person, but whatever it was, she was sure she didn't want to find out. Not wanting to make a single sound that might alert the screaming whatever to her presence, she stayed absolutely still, only to become more and more frightened as the screaming only got louder, and closer. Finally, after the longest few seconds of her life, something crashed into the foliage above her. She had never ran home faster.
