"Welcome to the mission introductions, everyone!"
The person talking was none other than the principal, Principal Kamish. Everyone from 2-A and 2-B was standing in a crowd, looking at her.
We were in the new training hall. It was grassy plain inside of the building. Apparently, this was made with the same technology used in the Colosseum.
"Oi, oi, why is Kiryu staring at you?"
Akane asked from behind me.
"Let's just say... I told him. He seems to like you."
Her cheeks slowly turned red.
"Y-yeah..."
"Now, today, you'll be in your teams. In each team, you'll have a supervisor who'll look after your team during missions, in case anything happens."
A teacher ran over to Principal Kamish and gave her a remote. Kamish clicked it and the grassy plain became a white assembly hall covered with metal plates.
This is most likely the original version of the training room.
Ai-nee then walked toward Principal Kamish and gave her a few sheets of paper.
"I will now read each team's members along with their supervisors. Please group up when you're mentioned. Your supervisors will explain the basics and then you will select a mission. Now, I'll go in alphabetical order, regardless of class."
She looked at the sheets and became reading out what was on the sheets.
"Firstly, Team Amber. Miho Takuya, Yuya Jiku, Ririka Ichino, and Damaru Hoshi. Your supervisor will be Pandora Merlyn."
Wow, having Merlyn as your supervisor would be super annoying. Whenever we engage in a conversation in Ancient Runes, she always tries to one-up me for some reason.
Well, since our team name is Exodia, we'll be here for a little bit.
---
"--Team Ethereal's supervisor will be Mr Rekail."
Principal Kamish finished.
That group went ahead.
"For Team Exodia,"
She started.
That's our group next.
"Kaguya Homura, Emika Kaneko, Kuroha Kuroika, and Shoya Sasaki. Your supervisor will be Maria Frister."
A girl walked onto the stage. She looks like a grumpy girl. With her blonde hair styled into a side-tail and her blue eyes. When she glanced at me, I felt like she was prepared to fire a gun at me or something.
I do remember Altair saying that something happened between a previous incarnation and her. Hopefully, she doesn't hold it against me since I'm not that person.
"So, you're in my group."
Those were the first words she said to me as we grouped up. She clicked her tongue as she said it too.
I honestly feel like she has a grudge against me for something that I didn't even do.
"Uh, so, Ms Frister, don't you have to give an explanation about missions?"
Kuro asked.
"Yeah... I do, don't I?"
Seems like Ms Frister was racking her brain.
"Anyway, I'll be your team supervisor."
"What does that mean, exactly?"
Kaguya asked.
"I was just getting to that."
She snarled.
"A team supervisor is someone who accompanies the team whenever they take a mission. This is for the team's safety since the supervisor is always a professional Magus or Magia."
"What about the mission system? There has to be some way for us to choose appropriate missions that aren't too hard for us."
Emika concluded.
Ms Frister nodded at her.
"There'll be a bulletin board up in the second-year corridor. You can choose a mission from there based on the team ranking."
"Team ranking?"
I repeated.
"It's the rating the team has. The lowest is F- and the best is SS+."
"What's our rating?"
Kaguya asked.
"Based on abilities alone, we've been assigned a rating of C+. After completing enough missions, the team ranking will increase."
Ms Frister looked over at me.
So, we're basically like adventurers from another world. Like the ones in those fantasy games.
"When a mission is selected, the team leader or a representing member must present it to the supervisor. Of course, this cannot be done other than when all members know of the mission."
That would make sense because everyone needs to know what they're getting into. It's also a way for the team to trust each other. Or so, my instincts tell me.
"If the team leader submits a mission without the other's consent or knowledge, then the leader will be sanctioned. It will be the same if a member does it. The leader will be sanctioned."
"Huh? Why?"
I asked her.
"The team leader takes responsibility for his members' actions on missions. It's the same with picking a mission. The leader will take responsibility."
Ms Frister said to me, rather matter-of-factly.
I felt like she mentioned that information wanting the members of my team to misbehave. Perhaps she'll try and get me sanctioned.
"As for anything else,"
Ms Frister put her hand on her chin, seemingly thinking.
"There shouldn't be anything else, actually."
"When can we pick a mission?"
Kuro asked, raising her hand.
"Now, actually, you just need to go to the bulletin board in the second-year--"
"Shoya! Shoya! Let's go pick now!"
Kuro jumped onto me and began begging.
I looked over at the exit of the training facility. It seemed like others were leaving too. Most likely to pick missions.
"Let's go! We don't want any good missions being taken!"
---
There was a crowd around the bulletin board. Luckily, I was able to get one before they all disappeared.
The four of us, my team, regrouped in the training facility and we looked over it together.
"Mission is a rank C+ mission. It seems we need to take care of a dungeon that's in Altria."
"A dungeon for our first mission! Now, this is the type of school I wanted to attend!"
Kaguya exclaimed, clearly happy.
"The dungeon is of the fire element. The boss is a Crimson Panther."
Kaguya froze.
"Fire element? I guess that's right up Kaguya's alley."
"Not really."
Emika told me.
"Hm?"
"For the Fire element, someone who possesses Water is better off in this dungeon due to elemental advantage."
Ah, right, how could I forget something so simple?
"So, will you choose this mission?"
Ms Frister came walking toward us.
I looked at my teammates. They all nodded. I handed the sheet over to the girl. Teacher, I mean.
She looked over the mission.
"Okay, see you in three days. We'll take the mission then."
