Chapter 28 - Exodia 28: How can you help?

The other two in the room looked shocked while Weissmann and I glared at each other.

"Where did you hear that word?"

He asked, his voice was ice-cold.

There was a weird aura of intimidation coming from Weissman, but I tried not to react. I never thought this guy could be angry like this...

"Someone mentioned it in my dream."

I said, trying to keep my cool.

The principal leaned back on his chair and sighed, covering his face.

All of a sudden, I felt Ophelia's cold glare. I think she's suspecting me of being some sort of spy or something.

"Hunter. It was the title I had in the SSB."

SSB...

"The Streia Society Bureau?"

Weissmann looked at me.

"Streia Safety Bureau. Streia Society Bureau was a name they used until twelve years ago. After a certain worker went rogue and killed a family's mother and daughter. He still hasn't been caught even to this day."

I narrowed my eyes.

He's talking about my family. Gilheld is still alive? Now, that's dangerous. If he were to attack indiscriminately with his ability to control fear, then he'd cause so much chaos and would be practically unstoppable.

"It was exactly because of that rogue that I gained the title of Hunter. I killed too many to track him down..."

His voice faded away as he stared blankly at his desk.

I guess this was a sensitive subject to bring up. If I had known, I wouldn't have brought it up. Regardless, I know that Gilheld is still alive... Not that I can do much, anyway.

"Let's get back on the subject. What's Valhalla?"

I asked, trying to change the topic.

Ophelia spoke in her indifferent voice.

"Valhalla is a secret organisation that we do not know much about. We do know a few things."

"Like?"

"That stuff is confidential."

Ayaka called out.

"It's fine. He can know."

The two women stared at Weissmann. He flinched, looking between the two.

"What?"

The man said, ignorant.

"Oh, come on! Shoya told us about the attack, so why not trust him with some information too? He's not dumb enough to blab off to someone about confidential information."

Weissmann then turned to me, breaking into a cold sweat.

"Right?"

"Of course not, I'm not that dumb."

"Unlike a certain someone."

Ophelia muttered, looking away.

"Yeah, tell me about it."

I heard Ayaka whisper behind me.

The principal noticed both of them muttering under their breaths.

"Wait. Are you guys talking about me?"

He pointed his finger to his chest.

They both nodded.

"I'm good at keeping secrets though."

Behind me, I heard a snap. As if something broke. Peeking over my shoulders, I saw Ayaka holding a broken clipboard. She didn't look very happy.

"Oh, 'good,' you say? How about that time when you told everyone that my boyfriend dumped me?"

Weissmann chuckled slightly.

"Seriously? You didn't even tell me to keep it a-."

"Then how about the time you told the enemy all of your plans and they were able to counterattack?"

Ophelia joined in.

"But that wasn't a secret eithe-."

"What about when you were told to keep Himari's pregnancy a secret but you told everyone in our senior year of college?"

Ayaka finished off.

The remarks left Weissmann silent. He raised his arm and opened his mouth but stayed silent and returned to his previous position.

"Well, anyhow,"

The maid spoke.

"We know that Valhalla is an organisation which follows their pride and heart. Meaning that they do whatever they want no matter what. There is no connection to where they attack."

"We also know that they've had their eyes on Weissmann for a while since he's a major figure in the world, but no one would've guessed that they'd attack now."

The nurse uttered.

"We also know that their leader is that rouge I was chasing; Gilheld Asuma."

Gilheld...

He's the leader.

I cleared my head before asking the next question.

"So, what will you do? Warn the students and civilians?"

"That..."

Weissmann paused as he pushed his chairs forward and put his hands together.

"... will be something that I will worry about as the principal. You can carry on and live your normal student life."

He's telling me to live my life as a student normally even though I know that something like this will happen.

"I don't think that's possible. I want to help."

As I announced it, there was a short, dreadful, silence.

"And what will you do, Shoya Sasaki?"

Ophelia asked.

"Wh-."

"I asked you, what will you do?"

I looked down and thought for a couple of seconds. I wanted to speak but I decided to stay silent, since...

"That is correct. You cannot do anything. It is not possible."

"Even so, I want to do something!"

I lost my cool silently but poised myself.

"You cannot do something while being afraid of being caught by Emperors."

They know about Black Exodia...

"Death is a natural thing to fear, but you don't seem to be fearing an ordinary death."

Ayaka walked past me and turned around, looking me in the eye.

"You fear dying cruelly, at the hands of the Emperors."

Of course, I fear death like that. I mean, the Emperors are like one of the most powerful beings in the world.

I shouted to myself in my mind.

"How can you help, without being able to use your Singularity?"

She spat in my face.

I can't. Now that I think about it, I can't really do anything. In the AST training sessions, I haven't been doing much except for basic hand-to-hand combat. When Emika was in danger, I arrived late. Even if I was on time, I don't think I'd do much. Then, there's the upcoming battle.

What can I do there?

I... don't know.

As much as I want to help, I don't know.

I clenched my fist in frustration; I bit my lip.

I don't know...

"I..."

At first, I hesitated with my answer, but I answered clearly.

"Nothing. I can't do anything. I'm powerless."
