Day 2: Into the dark., the howl of the lost.
As the monster's howl in the Tenebris forest, Kaijin begins to wake "so it wasn't a dream" Kaijin said in a soft voice, as Kaijin stretches from his slumber he notices something strange about the outside, and says "Why is it still dark outside? it was dark out before I slept last night" This confused Kaijin, and made him wonder if the day cycles were different. He did not dwell on it for long and decided to head downstairs, to see if Astolis was awake.
Kaijin opened the door and noticed a painting hung on the wall, it was a family of 4 elves, Astolis was in the painting as well, Kaijin saw three others but he didn't seem to recognise them, it seemed Astolis was a father of two, as there were two children in the painting and one woman. While looking at the picture, Kaijin heard footsteps and looked over to the sound, and saw Astolis standing there glaring at Kaijin "I-I'm sorry I was just curious…" Kaijin said in an apologetic manner, Astolis came back to his usual expression, then sighed, and said " That's my family, the one on the far left is my wife, Akari Novem... The love of my life. The ones in the center were our children, on the left akashin the older of the two, he had just turned eight, he was a child of great courage and held those close to him above himself. On the right is Astori, she had the kindest heart of any child, she had just turned six, just two years younger than her older brother, Astori was a child who had a smile that would make any day better…They were truly a family I was unworthy of.." Astolis said this with a broken voice, it was like someone had stabbed an old wound he had long forgotten. Kaijin listened with a sorrowful look in his eyes, he didn't mean to open his old wound. Kaijin wanted to ask him where his family was now, but he felt that it would just hurt Astolis even more so, he left it be, and decided to say " From what I can see, it's not about whether or not you were worthy of them, it's only matters if you loved them, and if they loved you, I have no place to say this but, it seems you loved them a great deal, and I think you are forgetting that they loved you, from what I see in this painting, it seems you were quite loved. Take this to heart Astolis, none of us feel worthy enough to hold our loved ones, but as long as you treat those close to you with care and love, then I'm sure you are worthy enough for anyone." Astolis stood there quietly with a look as though a weight had been lifted off. Astolis changed back to a face with a slight smile, and said " What a fool I've been… Thank you, your words have cleared the fog that has haunted me. Kaijn , let's go eat breakfast, and begin the day."
Astolis began to go downstairs, and Kaijin followed suit and at the bar, there was a full hearty breakfast it seemed. There was a pig that seemed to have been roasted over a fire like a rotisserie, the pig seemed to have hair on its head, it had turned a golden color after roasting, there was also mushroom stew it seemed on rice, Astolis seemed to have used the glowing mushrooms outside for it, but there were only the orange mushrooms in the stew, Kaijin was curious so he asked "Why is there only orange mushrooms in this?" Astolis seemed shocked for a moment and said " The other's are poisonous to eat, the orange mushroom is called meat shrooms, and is the only non poisonous mushroom, the blue mushroom we call aqua shrooms and they contain water but it must be purified, and the crimson mushroom is the mushroom we call the mushroom of the afterlife, supposedly safe to eat in the afterlife but it will send you to the afterlife if you are living." Kaijin was surprised and also glad, glad he didn't eat them when first arrived. Kaijin then sat and started eating, the pig tasted as though it was a mix of beef and bacon, it seemed tough at first glance but it was as tender as a juicy beef roast. Kaijin tried the rice and mushrooms next, the mushrooms released a juice when pushed with a spoon, Kaijin's mouth had reached its limit, he got a spoon full of rice and mushrooms with juice as well, Kaijin was amazed, it tasted very similar to pork curry on rice, Kaijin devoured it all cause it was all too good.
"Hoo, it seems you were starving," Astolis said with a grin. Kaijin responded with " Thank you it was absolutely delicious" " You are perhaps the first to consume bowls mushroom stew and a whole mosspig in under ten minutes'' Kaijin looked with shock, "How could you stop eating?!" Kaijin thought to himself.After Kaijin was finished he decided to head out, excited to explore, he left a note while Astolis was in the room behind the bar, saying " Astolis I decided to adventure outside! Be back soon, sincerely, Kaijin. "
Kaijin had a slight chuckle while writing and then left the tavern, he opened the door to exploration. He decided to start exploring where he had first arrived in the Tenebris Forest, he followed the mushrooms back to where he remembered, he was looking around the area and found where he was laying when he got to this land, and the grass had burned to ash where he had awoken from, "Just yesterday it wasn't like this, what happened?" Kaijin was stuck with confusion as to why, he thought perhaps it was an effect of him coming to this land. Suddenly while Kaijin was looking at the spot on the ground, Kaijin heard "RAUGHHH!" Like thunder the sound echoed in the forest, it shocked Kaijin at first because of the intensity of the sound, but it sounded as though a beast was dealt a killing blow, Kaijin collected himself, and began heading towards the cry of pain, he cautiously snuck through the brush, hiding underneath the brush while moving, quiet as a mouse. Kaijin gazed through the brush "I-It's a Basilisk!?" Kaijin was in shock in his mind, but being careful to stay quiet in reality, it was a Basilisk, something told only in myths, this particular Basilisk was black with a crimson diamond pattern running on its back, Kaijin was in awe gazing upon it, while admiring it Kaijin noticed it had a huge gash in it, and it seemed to be at its life's end. Kaijin suddenly heard something in his mind "Oh human…Oh human who has a mind of a millenia, I know not for who thee are, I only sense that thine is destined to bring light to this dark world... Speak thy name, human…" Kaijin's body trembled with fear, Kaijin felt that if he lied this beast could end his life, even if the basilisk was on the verge of death. Kaijin began speaking with his voice quivering in fear " Ka-Kaijin, my name is Kaijin." The basilisk spoke into Kaijin's mind once again and said " Kaijin… Hmmm, I see. Well Kaijin, thy shall know me as the Great Basilisk, Otogodo… Thy shall be the amalgamation of the lost voices, the wayfarer for the lost. Thee shall be the inheritor of my soul, my essence, my very being. I shall use the rest of my magic to hide your essence, my time is running out before they find me, call upon my power when in times of danger, my soul shall grow with thee, with this we shall part ways for the time being… Goodbye old friend…" Kaijin felt a tremendous amount of pain in his body, it felt as though his was being ripped out of his body and being forced back in, Kaijin's right arm felt like it was on fire " GAGHHH!" Kaijin howled in agony, soon fainted because of the tremendous amount of pain. " SECRET ART [HOWL OF THE CONCEALED]!" Kaijin's body quickly sunk under the ground, all traces of him erased, not even his scent remained, "This shall be the last time we meet until you become stronger, Kaijin you shall rise up and become strong as god one day…" Odogoro had no strength left, his body fell to the ground where Kaijin was underneath, Odogoro had no more mana left to use magic, and was quickly bleeding out, but it did not matter, he had already imparted his soul onto Kaijin, soon only Odogoro's body was left, lifeless and growing cold.
