Chapter 8 - Chapter 8

"Your too inquisitive lady, chill I'll give you the details," Nicholas blurted out, still playing with my card.

I was defeated and was finding it hard to keep calm. I needed my Journalist card, therefore I hard to obey him. 'He is the Boss no matter what,' I thought consoling myself.

"I do not think a deal is a good idea, the only thing that needs to be done is for you to slip the card to me, and this topic will be closed," I explained, but his facial appearance showed that he was certain about having his way.

"If it's that simple for you, then let me make it complicated for you," he uttered nonchalantly.

I watched him remove a clean handkerchief from his pocket, and carefully dabbed his sweaty face, before putting it on the table.

"God, why is this man as hard as Cameroon's government," I whispered beneath my breath frustrated with this show already.

I didn't expect him to hear, but he did, it happens that he was keenly watching me as I threw my hands in the air in reckless abandon.

"What was that?" he questioned eyeing me.

"Nothing Sir, I am ready to hear the deal," I responded heaving a sigh that seemed to be clutched in my chest for a while.

Nicholas pretended like he didn't hear me, and brushed away what I had earlier said. He leaned towards the table, maintaining eye contact with me throughout the whole process.

I guess he was tasting his words, on how he should pull it out to me.

"One, if you want your card, you'll better cut of the formalities,"

"Excuse me, Sir?" I demanded naively.

"There she goes again, stop calling me Sir or Mr. Nicholas is fine, or still Nick," he corrected, making it difficult for me to breathe.

"But Sir…" I started, then noticed I've committed the mistake he was still trying to correct me about".

I took a deep breath, hoping it will help me, and when it did I continued my sentence avoiding his eyes that seem to pierce through my entire body.

"I owe you respect, coupled with your age, achievements, and status in the country, you deserve it, Sir," I concluded before realizing I've done that error one more time.

"It's either you obey, or you lose your card," Nicholas explained smiling devilishly.

"Fine, I accept, I will call you Nick, is that fine with you?" I questioned raising from my sit, fed up with all this show.

"Good girl, sit, we aren't done with this conversation," Nick ordered tapping his hand lazily on the desk.

"If you want me to stay, then you will give my card first," I blurted a bit loud.

'This wasn't a good sign at all,' I reasoned it out mentally.

"There is only one boss here, and that's me, so it's either you abide by my rules or…" I didn't give this man a chance to conclude his rubbish that he was saying, I was done with it.

"It is settled then, I am no longer working then, you can keep the card as a gift," I yelled, causing people to start staring at us.

I wasn't done, so I continued, rushing through my sentence.

"If that's the way you deal with your workers or other people, then I sadly tell you, 'You've met the wrong match. I will be glad if you inform Mr. Nfor that I've quit the job I wasn't even fully integrated into, I'll be pleased if you speak the truth that it was your fault".

I was so angry as I carried my back and stomped off, I was so enraged when I didn't hear him follow me to make me stop.

"Rinnnnggg! Rinnnnggg! Rinnnnggg!" I heard my phone vibrating in my bag as I walked towards the road, somehow confused about what direction to take.

I opened my bag, and removed my phone, checking the Caller ID, it read mom. I answered it, putting it on my shoulder and ear while trying to close my back.

"Allo! Good day Ma," I greeted.

"Where are you, it's way past your closing time". Mom questioned, I didn't want to lie to her, so I opened up.

"I'm in Bonamoussadi, but on my way…" I couldn't finish my sentence.

The next action just happened in a flash as I heard a crash on me.

'Madame, Je suis desolè," a man apologized, as other people ran to the scene.

"Wahhhh! Help!" I begged for help as I thought the whole world's pain was placed on me.

A bike rider had hit me trying to look for space to pass. Douala and traffic, this wasn't the first time a bike will hit and run, I wonder why this man didn't run.

I laid on the ground, feeling how some steamy hot liquid flowed through my body I started weeping, seeing how my handbag, was on one side of the road, my phone on the other side, and me at the center.

"Remove the lady from the road let people pass, " an arrogant man in his car said while poking his head out of the window, allowing wind to carry his loud voice through.

"If she is dead, the mortuary still has space," a potbelly passenger announced laughing.

People were rather looking at me as I was stained with blood, not knowing where it was coming from.

I felt a warm pair of hands wrapped around me as I continued crying, I opened my eyes to see Nicholas, the man I just had an argument with.

I didn't argue when he carried me, freeing the road for people to pass. A young man helped carry my bag and telephone and followed us.

Nicholas carried me to his car, as his driver saw us and hurriedly opened the passenger's side of the car. The man with my bag deposited it and left.

I continued crying as I heard Nicholas hush my voice.

"Megan it's okay, you'll be fine, it's all my fault" he accused himself of what happened to me.

"You didn't do anything, it was my doing I shouldn't have left in a blind rage," I said feeling the tears flow freely.

Nicholas not knowing what to say to comfort me brushed my tear-streaked face.

"We are going back to Fraternity Hospital, you need to get your wounds checked," I heard Nicholas announced as the driver ignited the car.

"Please, I do not want more trouble more than what I've gotten into already, if you will let me be, I'll take a bike home". I mumbled wiping my tears.

I wasn't going to accept any help from this man, not at all.

"I'll be a fool if I let you go home in such a condition," I heard Nicholas say.

I sulked my breath, thinking about how painful this is.
