The trio's journey from Lumaville to Norinveld was thought to be a hit. But they also don't want any obstacles to be too heavy. Norinveld does present giant water monsters. There are even some creatures who reportedly have powers that even the immortals don't want to meet and deal with. Only a few of those who survived were able to tell the almost implausible tale. The rest, do not know where. Did they die because they lost against ordinary giant monsters, or did they die because of the monster that became a terrible myth in Norinveld.
Randolph did not know this. It's just that this is his first experience crossing the ocean. Randolph was just horrified. How not, cross the ocean full of giant monsters that can even appear suddenly. If there was another choice but to cross the Norinveld, Randolph would prefer not to cross it directly.
