Chapter 24 - CHAPTER 24: Sheryl's Past

Head Asher jumped off of the building as he flipped and landed between Hans and Liam. He used his scythe to slice off the Supreme Alpha, however, Liam quickly dodge that separated himself from the Female Blood, causing the girl to fall.

Hans rushed to catch the Female Blood before she could even reach the ground. Sheryl and Ian ran towards them and surrounded the two for protection. Head Asher kept slashing toward the alpha whereas Liam continuously dodged his scythe.

The hunters and lycans were also ready to indulge themselves into a fight until Hans yelled as he looked down and held the petrified Female Blood.

"Stop! All of you won't benefit from this! Let's all settle this in another way!" He paused for a moment then faced the Supreme Alpha.

"Head Asher is this Female Blood's pair, which is now proof that she belongs to the Hunters. And you can't go against it." He said sternly.

Liam snickered and agreed to him under a certain condition, "Sure, I won't. But tell that old man that I want his answer as soon as possible."

Hans didn't know what he was thinking but his guts are telling him that there's definitely nothing good about it. "You'll abide by it, won't you, human?"

Liam grinned widely as he slightly chuckled, Hans felt it more of a warning than a request. Before he could utter a word, his phone rang which showed the caller's name.

He sighed then picked up the caller, "Hello, Master?"

As their conversation went on and on for a few minutes. When the call ended, Hans informed the Supreme Alpha, "We'll do what you want."

Liam was pleased hearing the expected answer from the Director. The lycans slowly retreated and shifted into their lycan form, as some of them went ahead and some waited for their Supreme Alpha. Liam turned his back but before leaving his head slightly turned as he glanced at Hans.

"I'm looking forward to meeting you again, human." He said with glee.

He shifted into his lycan form, as pure as the snow while the wind gently bustled his soft fur and followed his pack to go back to their turf. When the lycan were completely out of their sight, they all sighed in relief.

Sheryl quickly removed the cloth on her mouth while Ian unties her hands then she quickly checked on the girl.

"Are you okay, huh? Gosh, you made me so worried about you." She said and hugged her tightly.

Head Asher approached Hans and patted his shoulder, "Good job in finding her."

Hans unaccounted himself saying, "You found her first, Head Asher."

However, Head Asher was persistent and replied back, "But you found her again."

After he said those words, he walked his way towards his pair and offered his hand to her.

"Will you give me the permission to take good care of you for the rest of our lives?" He asked as his eyes glowed purple, in hope for the Female Blood to accept his hand.

The girl didn't say anything in return, instead, she accepted his hand without knowing why. Head Asher guided the Female Blood to his car while Ian asked Hans and Sheryl if the rest of the hunters returned to the car to go back to the mansion which Hans didn't object.

Hans and Sheryl were left behind, Hans asked her out of curiosity, "Is she someone you know?"

Sheryl answered that she and the Female Blood were cousins, after that Hans told her that they should as well go back to the mansion. She followed Hans to the car; Hans then drove their way back to the mansion. Silence filled the entire ride, Hans noticed her in deep thoughts while staring at the scenery by the window.

"Is there something wrong?" Hans asked; however, Sheryl was unable to hear him, which made Hans call out her name a couple of times.

When Sheryl finally heard him, she asked, "You were saying?"

Hans repeated his question slightly, feeling annoyed, "I am asking you if there's something wrong?"

Sheryl replied boringly as she looked back at the window while she leaned her chin on her palm, "Nothing much."

However, Hans wasn't deeply convinced by her words, "Really?" he asked again.

Sheryl quickly got irritated that made her sighed in annoyance, "Why do you want to know?"

Hans responded to her in monotone, "Just in case." Sheryl continued denying, however, Hans' persistence made her give up.

"You're right, she's more than a cousin to me. Hazel's more like a sister to me. My parents killed her real parents out of greed, but because of guilt they decided to adopt her. To be honest, we're not blood related to begin with… My parents just pretended we were her relatives. She had a hard time forgiving my parents but she never shoved me out. Regardless of those circumstances, I ran away, carrying the guilt I had been feeling. And when I found out I was a Female Blood, I acted dead to her and to my family."

She said dryly from reminiscing her past. She covered her face with her palms, feeling restrained from everything.

"And now that she knows I'm alive… She'll resent me for leaving her for sure." She said to herself full of regret while crying out her pain.

Hans slightly glanced at her then back to the road and he said with no hesitation, "She won't."

He didn't say those words to comfort her, he was just stating the fact and nothing else. Sheryl looked at him and for some reason she felt that his words were true. She slightly laughed as she wiped her tears away and looked at the scenery through the window, thinking that Hans wasn't that bad after all. The ride went peacefully and comfortable for them as they drove back to the mansion.

After they arrived, Hans immediately handed in his report, and some of the agents went to his office and informed him of the intel they gathered regarding the forbidden venom.

"The Forbidden Venom symptoms were confirmed in the victim's body. When we asked some vampires and her bond, the last time they saw her was after their training. She ran out of bullets so she went out with their general's authority to buy some."

The agent then continued after giving himself a pause for a few seconds, "However, days had passed but she was nowhere to be found. When she was returned, she was already dead. Someone witnessed that he saw a man wearing a leather jacket with a hood while covering his mask with a print of a beast like wolf, eyes like hunters, and fangs like vampires; the back of his jacket also had the same symbol. The man ran off with a vehicle with the same symbol in his mask and leather jacket."

When the agent didn't say anything anymore, Hans asked if that was all they had gathered which the agent nodded as he replied in return. Hans gathered his thoughts for a second then dismissed them, he sighed as he leaned his head on the chair.

He thought to himself, 'What to do next with the little information we gathered, however, having a witness who saw the culprit and knowing they had such a symbol is already our biggest clue. Still, that doesn't mean it will be easy for us to catch them…Urghh…'

Few minutes had passed, someone knocked the door, it appeared to be Sheryl and Hazel as they welcomed themselves in. Sheryl knew that Hans was out of the world since he didn't notice them getting inside his office.

"You look stressed." She said in a slight mocking tone.

Hans didn't deny which made Sheryl ask him what triggered his stress, Hans said without meeting her gaze, "It's because of the Forbidden Venom."

Sheryl didn't say anything and Hans started to wonder what made him ask, "So, why are you here again?"

"She came to thank you." Sheryl replied then the Female Blood took the opportunity to introduce herself.

"I-I'm Hazel Turner, thank you for saving me and nice to meet you." She said,

Hans immediately denied his praise saying, "No need for that. I didn't do anything much. It was Head Asher who found you to begin with."

Sheryl, who was a little pissed, began to tease Hans, "Or maybe you're just too shy to be praised by one."

Which Hans denied to himself, "I am neither shy nor want one. If you're done, you may leave," he replied uninterestedly.

"Stop being so anti-social and accept it already. Whatever, we're leaving. I still need to escort her to Head Asher." She angrily informed him as she stuck her tongue out and shut the door harshly.

The moment the door shuts, Hans was dumbfounded for a few seconds, he went back to reality when his phone rang with an unknown caller. He then picked up the phone with seriousness in his tone, "Hello?"

Late afternoon came after she finished some of her unfinished jobs and she was still pissed by Hans' arrogant action but it was replaced the moment she thought of Hazel. She then reminisced of how they both made up.

As soon as she arrived together with Hans, Sheryl immediately went to visit Hazel in the clinic. She first hesitated to enter but when the door opened, Head Asher smiled at her as if he was expecting for her. He escorted her to where Hazel was resting then left them to have time for each other. If Hazel didn't explain to her the reason why she lived in an abandoned apartment, then she would have scolded her so much.

Hazel heard Sheryl's name and misheard that she lived in an abandoned building. Then Sheryl thought that where could she have heard her name when his pair, Hans, and the higher up as well as some of the special agents knew her real identity.

The moment she was revealed dead to her family, she rushed to change her name and identity into a new one. And Hazel confirmed that it was her pair who called her name which made Sheryl slightly felt relieved and annoyed at the same time. Then Hazel's mind was diverted to Hans so Hazel asked her cousin about the pretty boy which Sheryl gladly and at the same time annoyingly gave her all the information about him. Hazel then decided to go to him and thank him personally for saving her. And so, they went to him as they giggled together.

Their conversation then went on and on as they giggled and reminisced about the days they were not together. Sheryl giggled upon remembering everything they talked about in the clinic but it soon ended when he saw Hans suspiciously go out of his office.

She then silently followed him at the exit that is rarely used by most hunters and when Hans phone rang again, she tried to listen to their conversation but failed to do so. After the call ended, Hans carefully marched his way whereas Sheryl tried to follow him. However, when Hans made a quick turn, she lost him and was unable to follow him through. Sheryl then began to question Hans' action as she watched the scene where she last saw him.
