Chapter 2 - Finding Himself

Yang Chao set in his private study as he worked on his household accounts. He normally allowed a servant to handle this on a monthly basis, but he would check them himself a few times a year to be sure there were no discrepancy in the account books at the beginning of the new year. Setting his brush to the side he leaned back and stretched his back when he heard footsteps approach, he straighten himself as a servant stepped in from the side holding a letter and a scroll. As the servant approached, he lowered his head and announced his business.

"This servant bring a message from your contact in the west. If I'm correct, I believe it is the portrait you requested as well as information on the rumored beauty from the Kingdom of Stella." The servant bowed now at his waist as he held out the two items.

Yang Chao had been waiting half a year after he had heard of this rare beauty. He knew that the beauty was a man, but he didn't care he wanted to see for himself if this man was truly a treasure not to mention the silver hair could be from a spiritual or heavenly bloodline, and this intrigued him most of all. Was it a laten bloodline or was the mother unfaithful? He had heard rumor that the married women of the Stella kingdom were normally given free rein to mingle with even unmarried men and that many lord still feared that their heirs may not actually be their own. At the thought he nearly sneered as he stood and walked around the desk quickly grabbing both message and scroll from the servant.

Turning straight around he put the message down and took the string off the scroll and began to unroll it his hands beginning to shake a little as the top of the head came into view first and he turned the scroll around the faint sheen of mercury on the page confirm to him that the hair was indeed seen as silver not white or a pale blonde. Purple blue and green shimmered together in the eyes of a slender face and his breathe caught. This man was no albino and his eyes' extreme hues told him what he wanted to know, that he was full of magic but that wasn't what surprised him the most. As his finished opening the scroll, instead of the splendid clothes that could bring out his eyes or contrast beautifully with his long silver hair the man wore a simple and worn shirt with a button lose at the neck a dark blue vest and a set of black pants that also seemed worn, and he frowned. Did the man enjoy gardening, was he doing some task that would require clothes to be in such terribly exposed condition?

He looked at the message near his right hand and grabbed it off the desk pulling his eyes away from the painting his mood soured by what he saw. No beauty like him should be wearing commoners' clothes or even be so exposed. His eye glancing at the neck again and wondering if the artist had doctored the painting in some way to make him disregard this foreign nobleman as a consort. He opened the message and began to read.

'Your Highness I have news to report on Caius Remington. He has been denounced from his family for not being able to produce an element when he entered the college in the capital. He has been stripped of his name and title. I was told he was only given plain clothes and a small apartment to live in. His ring and other luxuries were returned to his family home by his brother's own hand who has now taken the role of heir after he was able to produce a strong fire ability.

Though Caius has been thrown away I report that he is a kind man that has become a scholar and teaches the children who are willing to learn letters and numbers. Most of these children are only able to come once or twice a fortnight but he is still willing to teach them how to read and even to do some more advanced math than simple addition or subtraction. He is an excellent scholar who those of the lower city respect and the nobles still speak well of.

He family line is also strange; he was not the only child born of the Remington line who was born with silver hair and no magical ability. A great grandaunt was retired from the family line but allowed to live on the family property in a small cabin near the edge of the land. My investigations show that the family and those who know of these colorings, call it a curse. Those afflicted always hold a great deal of magic but all of it is formless, so they are unable to use their magic.

How would you like me to precede, your highness?'

Chao quickly reread the message and only slowed when he read about the 'curse' again. Looking back into the eyes of this beautiful man he smiled. This man wasn't human, at least not completely human. That 'curse' was because this spiritual beast needed their blood awakened. He smiled to himself as he rolled the scroll close and tied the thread. He was going to claim this beauty even if he had to kidnap and secret him out of Stella. That wasn't going to be his first choice but as an option he was willing if it came to it. His own eyes flashing in excitement a red, purple and gold as he rounded the desk and began to write a message for his Royal Father. This unwanted son has to be brought into their court before any of the fools in Stella started to figure out what Caius was, and since he was interested, he was going to ask his father to let him marry this man.

As he finished the message, he turned toward the servant who watched him now the interest clear on his face by Chao's reaction to the message and portrait. In his message to his father, he wrote of his interest and how he has a current portrait of the young man with him that he would like his father and mother to look over. He also stated that he would like to be able to plea for his chosen bride and explain his reasons for his choice.

He knew what bringing this man in as his first consort would mean. That he would mean that he couldn't bear an heir and his request for this meant that he was stepping down as a contender to the throne at most now he could be a Duke or General. This was something that he was already expected though, as he had never been able to gain interest in women before. He had already laid groundwork before this as well to support his First Royal Brother to the throne and only other true brother to him as the second, third and fourth were each born of different concubines. While he and the first prince were born of the Royal Mother.

He turned and passed the message over to the servant, "Be sure this message is passed to my father."

He than pulled out a small leaf of paper meant for messager birds and wrote a message for his foreign agent in Solagent. 'Watch and protect him' He rolled the leaf between his finger and thumb as he walked over to the study window where a large myna bird was porched. Reaching out a finger he pulled the long hanging sleeve of his outer robe away from his hand with the other as he called the bird to his hand. The small bird leapt down with a hop and sat still as he put the rolled paper into a small sleeve that was tied to the bird's foot and released it through the window. The bird was smart and would return to a designated spot within Solagent. From there the message would be passed to his agent quickly and he hoped it would be in the next few days. His stomach already churned at the idea of losing this treasure before he was able to see him.[GU1]

it's good though all the awkwardness you felt was mainly due to poor grammer, I did correct some of it as I went, rewording some sentances to make it flow more smoothly. you have to watch for repeating words that makes the sentence or paragraph feel chunky. Yellow is some of the repeating words I didnt change, Red is phases you can do without to make it read smoother. and Green is places I changed for you and wanted you to know so you could change it back or change it to something else if you dont like how I phrased it.
