F*ck. This was not what Dallas had wanted to happen.
Bree should never have heard their conversation at all, and her sudden appearance had left Dallas scrambling, attempting to come up with an appropriate response.
Despite nearly being caught red-handed, he still couldn’t admit that Bree had a chance to return to her old life.
“Nothing,” he said. “It’s… it’s nothing to worry about.”
“You were talking with King Kreos, weren’t you?” Bree asked, stepping a little further into the room. She looked frustrated, as though she were trying to figure out a particularly difficult puzzle. “Why?”
“He’s been persistent in contacting me lately,” Dallas explained, trying to find a suitable excuse for why the Witch King would be trying to get a hold of Dallas that didn’t involve Bree. “It’s about the attacks we made on the outskirts of Talmeria.”
