Bree awoke later, feeling warm and content.
The sheets were soft against her bare skin, and she could feel the bright rays of the sun splashing across her body. Her body was loose and relaxed, tired in a good way, and she stretched, reaching her arms up and pointing her toes to wake herself up fully.
She smiled sleepily and rolled over to see if Dallas had woken up yet.
But as soon as she did, the smile disappeared from her face, and she sat up quickly, looking around the room for a moment before returning her gaze to the mattress beside her.
The sheets were rumpled, and someone had obviously been sleeping there, but there was no warmth there whatsoever, and Bree knew that her bedfellow had left a long time ago. She set a hand down on the mussed sheets, trying to see if there was any hint of Dallas left, but she couldn’t find any.
